Winter is coming...
This is the 2nd time ever I've been excited for a new OS to be released. July 29th.http://blogs.windows.com/bloggingwindow ... n-july-29/
Hi everyone! Are there any VR related kickstarters/indiegogos currently that are worth backing? I tend to miss these things, so i would appreciate some place where people can post them.http://bingvnn.com.cung cap dich vu giup viec nha uy tin, can tim nguoi giup viec gioi, cung ung giup viec nha tphcm
"Eugene Gootsman", a supercomputer with the personality of a 13 year old boy, has passed the Turing test on June 7, 2014.http://www.zdnet.com/computer-chatbot-eugene-goostman-passes-the-turing-test-7000030312/UPDATE: maybe not.https://www.techdirt.com/articles/20140609/07284327524/no-computer-did-not-pass-turing-test-first-time-everyone-should-know-better.shtml
I dont know much about this new tech I'm seeing...things like the Thync device etc...digital mood stimulators...and I'm wondering if anyone is looking at using them somehow in VR situations...(I have also heard of something like it called Digital Drugs but havent looked into that yet)...kinda creepy but would be interesting to see if certain situations inside a VR enviroment could stimulate an emotion or feeling using that tech...maybe like meditative VR that produces a feeling of calm...or situations in a FPS or horror survival that stimulate energy...it might even already be being done I dont know...I only just heard about Thync the other day.
You can't beat home made Chips and I don't mean American Chips. Good old fashioned English Chips.
Good day VR peoples!I am having some potential issues.See I only have two technical HDMI ports. (One on video card, and the other with a DVI) I'm going to be needing three at least. (One for Vive one for Rift, one for Monitor)Any suggestions or ideas to get three? As I considered two video cards, but I heard that may be less than suitable for a VR experience.
It's been happening more and more frequently. Today I woke up on the wrong side of the road after having a short "dream" that I was about to hit another card head on. I did manage to get to my other site fine, but upon arrival, I passed out for a couple of hours./sigh. I hope consumer VR gets here before I put myself in the ground
When I try to run the demo room just to set it up the runtime gives me an error and then crashes any help I have updated the firmware and everything is plugged in. If i use catalist controll panall and extend my desctop I get an image on the rift so I know it's working. Any suggestions. I have tried reinstalling everything twice.
Hello, i want to ask about the Oculus Rift distribution in the EU.Already you have contractual agreements with some major companies engaged in IT distribution? What distribution policy will apply.. Thanx for answer Cybereality
I would like to know what Brazilians are involved with the Oculus VR. I believe it is important to maintain a national community (Brazil) for the discussion on the projects.Let's share the addresses and email, linkedin and others to keep informed. What do you think? We can think of a non-profit site, called Oculus Brazil VR.
The original Oculus Rift Kickstarter campaign was targetted at getting this device built for around $250 each, for 1000 people, hence the $250,000 target (or something). That means they probably believed they could get 1000 units built, 1000 was the minimum number of production to get a HMD put together with off the shelf units. These numbers can be corrected by someone better in the know with manufacturing deals, they are not the point of the post. The point is, why can't the same thing be done for $1000 on the high end?By using off the shelf components like Sharp displays with Carl Zeiss lenses, a small company or an experienced pro sim name looking to get into the VR gaming space, or really anyone, can promise to build THE SteamVR HMD using the Lighthouse tech that is open, with 4K per eye resolution, 150+ degree FOV and great color, and thanks to crowdfunding, they can do it without taking any risk. If "powered by Oculus program" opens to third parties by the end of the year, the s

Its not like a weaponized NBC product such as anthrax has ever been mistakenly sent out into the wild while still in its active state. The end is near?
I know it seems like 1 in a million but is there any way to get a chance to beta test these?Or do they have promotions or discounts? A poor boy trying to finally go next genIs really tough..
I have an odd request to make... see, I'm looking to play a prank on someone, and I need an Oculus Rift box. Long story short, I'm going to send it to him, but inside the box will be a Nintendo Virtual Boy. I think it's gonna be hilarious. I don't suppose any of you have an Oculus box hanging around that you'd want to sell, would you?
As I mentioned before, I am currently writing my bachelor thesis about VR and AR and related business potential. (Ofcourse, I will also cover the Rift.) For my research, I prepared a questionnaire. I want to ask people on this site this questionnaire. (I will appreciate everyone who answers the questionnaire. You don't have to answer every question if you want to take the questionnaire. (I nevertheless hope you will answer most questions.)I appreciate every help I will get.'My questions:1. What do you think about the situation of virtual reality technology during the 1990s? What prevented the commercial break through of the technology and what did change now?2. What do you think about the motion sickness problem?3. Does it make sense to reduce immersion to decrease costs for VR systems?4. What do you think are the strongest problems of VR and AR technology today?5. If VR and AR technology will become commercially successful, where will it be mostly used? In business environment, in

hi
What (or who) is your favorite VR Theory / Text / Designer? What really helps you design (frames your approach - defines the problems you want to solve) ... personal takes here are fine - BUT, I'm compiling a list of (published/peer-reviewed) stuff at isovista.org (database > theory page)Some broad ideas come from Game Design (Narrative & Interaction) - Literary Theory (flickering signifiers / hyperreality) - Engineering (usability) - Architecture (transArchitecture, isovists) - and more. 3D Data Viz theories in particular would be great. If you have no favorites... (do you feel that's a problem?)
http://steamcommunity.com/games/250820/ ... 2499750866https://github.com/ValveSoftware/openvr(OpenVR is the non steam dependent part of SteamVR)It comes with windows (32 and 64 bit), linux (32 and 64 bit) and osx (32 bit) libraries. The documentation isn't that good so far (kind of vague about how it all fits together, just a function reference).I haven't been able to work out yet if it has an equivalent of direct mode. The sdk has an opengl sample. No sdk source code is provided.
For many Virtual Reality fans, the 1992 movie, "Lawnmower Man" set their imaginations on fire; and still gets mentioned on most of the web sites that discuss Virtual reality, as being one of the first of such movies that got them hoping for this type of future to become possible a.s.a.p..Just do a quick search here in the Forums or over on /r/Oculus, and you'll see what I mean. But unlike most of the VR fans here, "Lawnmower Man" holds an even deeper fascination, and stronger memories for me...Back in the early 1990's, after losing my job in a massive layoff at Hughes Aircraft in Fullerton, California, I decided to just do something for fun for awhile; and that's when I became a full-time television and movie extra. And among the many projects I worked on during that time, was, of course, "Lawnmower Man."You can't tell how many hours I worked on the film from the few seconds of me left on the screen; but the memories of filming in the Ambassador Hotel (which is now gone), including visit
Just brainstorming for potential future of what we as humans could achieve short term and long term, and thinking of most lilkely versions like near sonic speed or extreme stream like exo suit style, any more comments would be awesome and to generate cool and realistic solutions, we could change the world! :D
I really love the American nation anthem.discuss.
Hi all,I'm eagerly awaiting the consumer rift like everyone else, and will be among the first excited to place an order. But until then, it would be great to have a simple, early try of the PC demos/games - streamed to my phone, for use with Cardboard. Even with limited control options, or simulating partial input another program. I'll even be ordering a 1080p phone to do so! (in addition obviously to trying native android VR apps).Unfortunately, for most PC VR demos I've tried, I get some error to the effect of 'Oculus not detected' or 'not connected'. There must surely be a way around this, or to simulate it being plugged in - thus opening up the world of PC VR streaming experimentation. In particular for example, I'd like to try cinema VR, riftMax, quake II, dolphin emulator and desktop VR (the various virtual desktop monitor) apps... via my phone. (and with phone connected directly to laptop via wifi etc, for best possible latency)Any solutions for this you know of, or that I hav
