Andrew E Auernheimer (weev) says the E stands for Escher and he is related to the dane somehow in a letter he sent me.What VR titles are using Euclidean geometry tricks ala Escher?http://nwn.blogs.com/nwn/2014/04/play-it-this-weekend-monument-valley.html#moreMonument Valley reminds me of Nyamyam's recent pop-up papercraft puzzle iOS game Tengami, but with an important difference. Tengami puts its artwork first, almost at the expense of providing a challenging gameplay to the player. Puzzles are mostly completed with slow deliberacy, not with careful thought, and the end result is an absolutely enjoyable and alost meditative experience... But not necessarily something that will satisfy a mobile gaming itch. Monument Valley seems to have reached a better balance between both of these things: It's beautiful, well-animated, with a built-in camera mode for anyone so in love with the game's graphics that they want to grab their own custom wallpaper from it, but the puzzles are still puzzling
I recently have been thinking about the View-Master I had when I was a kid, There was one set of reels that stood out a lot more from any of the others for its 3d impact, a lot more even than any of the 3d photos- and that was Inspector Gadget 3d View-Master :) If you're able to try it I think its worth it. The way layers and flat color was used to create shape and depth using just cartoon cell shaded art was impressive and something I am exploring in my own work. There were other interesting techniques used too for example to create the shimmer of a golden magical city glowing they used a bright yellow in one eye and a white in the other. Ive tried to find images of it online but no luck but could find images of the packaging. :?: Did anyone else try this?
Hey Forum,I suppose I should take some time to compose a detailed report, outlining my ambitions for VR and beyond!Opening Statement: This list is subject to change, evolve, and grow!Absurdity; mobile app-Instant anonymous fun-unlike any chat you have ever experienced before; trolling flaming, fighting, ranting, raving and role-playing is highly encouraged-sell it for $4.20: "if you cant afford $4.20 then you are not mature enough to handle the absurdity"-a very interesting social experiment; was thinking about using an anarchy symbol for the logo-reconsidering this due to some foreseeable ethical concerns regarding the usage of anonymous messaging apps...Silo; webapp-silo has been an interesting ambition that has changed drastically over the years-essentially it revolves around the vertical nature of newsfeeds-the current iteration is a third party newsfeed aggregate with an associated leaderboard-want to experiment with different ways to visualize newsfeeds Bridge to a mobile world;-
Alex Howlett had emailed me why wasn't Mark Bolas getting more credit publicly, Alex thought he should. Beats me I thought, but maybe someone doesn't want too much public scrutiny? Bolas did take a young Palmer under his wing. Bolas is just this nice "nutty professor" genius academic yah guiding young Jedi to do good things on this planet yah? With mixed media? Helping along the "open source" HMD hero of us all, Palmer Luckey yah?http://www.theverge.com/2014/1/26/5346772/blueshark-us-navy-oculus-rift-virtual-interfaceYou sank my battleship! LOL!So Bolas is helping on the cyberwarfare type future with the US Navy, hey that's important, as that recent captain philips movie with Tom Hanks showed, we got to worry about modern day pirates. Have to protect the shipping lanes, shipping all that oil.http://news.yahoo.com/china-building-second-aircraft-carrier-reports-042344677--finance.html But that is important to those chinese ambitions too, and certainly there isn't enough oil to g
For those that have read the latest articles. Thoughts on the future of work as presented? I think the timeframes are perhaps not anticipating faster trends and quicker feedback loops that the VR metaverses will usher in. There was futureshock with Alvin Toffler, then Kurzweil said to read Present Shock. Where is VRFutureShock? The future of work for NASA? Glove and Boots with Nasa man chris Hadfield, Major Tom Sendoff (he gets paid to go in space, and sing songs - where can I get a fugging gig like dat? - LOL!)
Was just wondering who remembers "magic eye" and was thinking would a similar concept apply to VR, I remember I used to be able to get into the images really quickly when I was younger, literally within seconds for most of them. Other people who tried could never seem to do it and if they did it would take them much longer! It got me thinking with everyone seeming to have a different perspective/experience to "presence" weather or not a similar situation is causing the problem? I think with VR at the stage it's at you do have to be able to let yourself go a bit, as in meaning go with it try and accept the position the experience is putting you in rather than try and fight it or be stubborn and not wanting to believe! Or just expect it to happen. In an ideal world we would all put the Rift on and instantly be transported to another dimension and without having to even think just automatically believe we are there but with a lot of people this doesn't seem to be the case.Listening to peop
This have nothing to do with oculus, but i found funny that i was able to make a working clone of flappy bird in that time frame, of course its so simple to fit in that 5 min, and i could have made it in 2-3min if my keyboard didnt act funny. It only comes to show the simplicity of the game, and how it was a hit without any work behind, in like 30min i could have made the full game. The IDE i used its GameMaker Studio, wich its kinda good for 2d games, the language used its GML, a simplification of C#.

Game over bill Paxton? Lol.Mosler said wall street has become useless. Less than useless, a blight.
As mentioned in the gdc thread Ethan Schur formerly of tdvision hmd was showing a new immersive device to sessler and brin of goog at the ign mixer. It is an immersive ar toothbrush called the grush. Dave graveline of into tomorrow at gdc met with geekmaster and myself to talk about the device and showed a lot of interest. Well the media blackout has lifted.http://www.mtbs3d.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=111&t=19446http://venturebeat.com/2014/04/03/you-think-youve-seen-everything-how-about-a-video-game-toothbrush/
This is down the track a bit, well a lot lol. I think its the kind of vision facebook has for where VR will go. Imagine submitting a brief to a VR architect of your dream home and having it built for you virtually down to the sounds and the view from your window. Picture frames on your walls hold your real world pictures. A home cinema with virtual surround sound ( u hear it as surround sound in the room but if u leave it playing and go to the next room u hear it coming from the room u left in your surround sound head phones.hand gestures and voice commands would be a big player and teleporting within your house or out into the virtual world. Walk up to a screen on your 'wall' and swipe through web pages for listings of virtual shops. virtual shops could be detailed adds for the likes of clothes shops for either virtual clothes for your avatar or real clothes sent to you if you have an acurate avatar you could try them on vertualy to see how they look. Restaurants so you get a sense o
http://nwn.blogs.com/nwn/2014/04/high-fidelity-virtual-reality-identity.htmlThey are fixing to kill the VR GUY FAWKES, gonna start controlling our VR identities and attach them to real world identities so that we can be held accountable - AWW FUGG! The matrix has you NEO!At least James Oreilly has been posting that linden labs TOS are WAY MORE tyrannical than Facebook TOS, so maybe a positive for Oculus? ;)
Geek Master was telling me about how good the google servers and data storage are, that you can never erase that stuff, they even made the system where even they can't erase it if they want too, maybe it just grows so complex or human become so dependent, we can never shut it down, erase, etcSo this film Zardoz was about a society that wanted to die, to forget, shut down, erase, but the crystal had been engineered that it could never erase/die, so they just went on and one in a sad existence, no ALAN WATTS surprise button. So is GOOGLE servers the beginning of the crystal in Zardoz? Wizard of OZ, the ai is created by man, then recreates man so that it can die and pass on and lose its immortality, maybe this cycle of back and forth, between immortal and mortal lifespans has been going on a long time. Maybe if the universe is one big simulation, this progression between mortal v immortal societies (as perceived) is the best feedback loop gyration to get the information up to the higher
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KqDRT--kQHM&feature=youtu.beLOL! It was just too funny to me not to post! (I still love you oculus guys and am getting a dk2) These memes are all just so silly and hilarious though! I love em!
The developers at YEI Technology are having an AMA today from 12pm to 4pm EST :) http://www.reddit.com/r/Games/comments/21ii86/hi_reddit_we_are_the_developers_of_the_priovr/
Soo, I've been at this for awhile now, and would like a pair of second eyes on this. I'll list the subject matters first, then the theoretical situation afterwards (which may not be so theoretical in the next 15 years.. ie: 2030 and the different Mars missions:Quantum Entanglement (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quantum_entanglement)Binary (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Binary_code)Digital Communications (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Data_transmission)Ion Propulsion (http://dawn.jpl.nasa.gov/mission/ion_prop.asp)Ion Potential Maximum Speeds (http://physics.stackexchange.com/questions/12346/ion-drive-propulsion-top-speed) Theory of Relativity (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theory_of_relativity)Time Dilation (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time_dilation)Theoretical "Warp" Drive (http://goo.gl/X9FBXw)Ok, read the above, then come back to this post.Well then, I presume if you were not familiar with the subjects, you are now. Let's talk first about propulsion systems. The current designs and fuel

Hi,A new InstaSynch channel about the Oculus Rift, but also virtual reality and augmented reality will open on Saturday March 22nd at 3pm GMT.The goal is to allow Oculus Rift enthusiasts to watch videos together and comment via a chat. Here is the link of the room: (frozen until Saturday)http://instasynch.com/rooms/EnterTheRiftA small trailer I made to explain the principle of InstaSynch: If you like the idea, come watch videos with us on Saturday :)
rOSEDALE OF second life working on this, imagine the control this will give governments, companies - Harrison Bergeron style. Hell I want it myself to do my own bidofeedback! http://www.reddit.com/r/oculus/comments/20cnwy/virtual_reality_system_lets_you_explore_your_own/http://www.cbsnews.com/news/virtual-reality-system-lets-you-explore-your-own-brain/YES! In the future think that movie gattaca, when it is easy for employers/governments to see our brains, how our neurons are firing real time, ed bernays mind control propaganda taken to a whole new level! Einstien had more glial cells than usual. They can see what jokes in a 2 and a half men show stimulate the neurons the best, imagine how good the comedy writers will get with this real time live feedback? We will never want to stop watching :)Reverand Kyle, I am willing to hook all this up to me, watch your VR late night comedy show, and then lets see how much my neurons get fired compared to watching a craig kilborn tv show! LOL
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/278203173/altergaze-mobile-virtual-reality-for-your-smartpho?ref=categoryI suppose mimicry is the sincerest form of flattery, and there are only so many ways to skin the VR cat, but I imagine this has to raise some eyebrows at Oculus central....
"NRMA Insurance has combined Oculus Rift virtual reality with a physical hydraulics system for a simulation that's both fun and frightening."http://www.techworld.com.au/slideshow/540645/oculus_rift_shows_virtual_reality_car_crashes/This would have been a fun project to work on.
So far I've been browsing at the Coolpix P520 and Nikon COOLPIX L620 My budget is about $250 but I am willing to stretch out to $350 if the camera is at the right price! I plan on getting a much better camera when I can afford it. But right now I'm just trying to get the equipment to help me become a beginner YouTuber. I also Plan on not only using this camera for just unboxing videos. But I plan on using it forward's my Photography hobby. (I need the camera to be not pixelated/distorted) when zoomed in.
http://greenbaumpatent.wordpress.com/2014/01/23/a-virtual-reality-patent-landscape-analysis/The graph above shows the companies that have acquired virtual reality patents (purchased or otherwise became the assignees of the patents) between 1993 and 2012. Sellers of patent assets include Sensable Technologies, Nortel, Virtual Technologies, and Mixed Reality Systems. At least one of the acquiring companies is a well-known Non-Practicing Entity (sometimes known as a Patent Assertion Entity or “patent troll”).In conclusion, the IP landscape of the virtual reality space tells an interesting story. Despite the fact that there has never been a truly successful commercial virtual reality platform, there are a surprising amount of VR patents and transactions involving those patents. This phenomenon will create both opportunities and liabilities for start ups and other companies looking to enter the industry.
