I would practically lose my mind if I was able to use the Rift+Hydra and play as Spiderman webslinging through New York City... Imagine seeing through the eyes of Spiderman with the Rift and using the Hydra to point and shoot exactly where you want the webs to attach to. You would be dashing at extreme speeds high up above the streets with full control...Spiderman is obviously copyrighted but what if we made a demo of swinging on a rope high up in the air or jumping across the top of buildings? The closest game I can think of to that would be Mirrors Edge, but it has too many cut scenes and forced perspectives.- Edit -Found a game on kickstarter that matches my request exactly (besides the use of the Hydra), apparently it started not too long ago.http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/551129138/energy-hook-0I commented on the kickstarter and mentioned if they could incorporate the Hydra into the game, so hopefully the creator takes it into consideration.
Hey guys--I'm putting together a public VR Devs Twitter list. Post your username/link if you want added!http://twitter.com/XanderDavisLive/vr-devsCheers,Xander
You think this reminds people of UDK?
An Oculus Rift-enabled experiment to come out of the Exile Game Jam in Vallekilde, Denmark, puts players on the chopping block of a guillotine in a title dubbed Disunion.Developed in two days by the warped and creative trio of Erkki Trummal, André Berlemont and Morten Burnjberg, Disunion's effect is further amplified by a well-timed strike to the player's neck as the guillotine performs its duty. Mean, but hilarious shenanigans ensue!Disunion is available for download to those with Oculus Rift units, but note that hitting yourself in the back of the head as the blade touches down will not provide the same effect. It's just weird.(Original link: http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/06/heads-off-display-oculus-rift-experiment-puts-players-in-a-guil/)
http://www.descent3.com/downloads.php#software_dev_kitHere you can get the SDK for DESCENT 3 (D3) if anyone is interested in working on something while they await their kit.I have already started Oculus integration. Feel free to make your own. The Site also has quiet a few cool tools you can download to assist you in developing a version of D3.here is a link to the full source code for Descent 2http://www.icculus.org/d2x/src/d2x-0.2.5.tar.gzRegardsMike
I wonder what the future will be like. Will everybody have an Oculus? Will they even be bottom of the range? :o I hope not. I'm a ten year old kid, I game and stuff. My birthday is soon, but I don't have enough for an Oculus. Shame. Either way, I say to those lucky ones who are rich enough to acquire one, and ones that even have the skill of development (tick for me :D ), well done, and have fun using and developing for this piece of the future while I go about collecting money. What do you guys (+gals) think of the future?Bai!'Kaos'
There was a TV programme on earlier to do with Repo men, and when one of them was talking to the camera, and going on about youngsters getting out and doing something, he said (approximately, this is from memory):"I don't know what it'll be like in a hundred years from now. You'll tell them to go out and do something with themselves, and they'll have something on their face (mimes holding something up to his eyes), and say 'I am, I'm in Jamaica right now' ".Made me smile - replace "100 years" with "now", and "Jamaica" with "Tuscany", and he'd have been spot on. There are a lot of people out there that don't have a clue what's just around the corner.
Would it be easy enough, just to right a new video driver to make the pc recognize the Oculus as a new form of display. and convert the video for the image accordingly?I will take our generic display drivers from Rockwell and see if I can integrate the Oculus as a generic display.Rockwell makes Boeing, Bombardier, and many other cockpit display for aviation. I will keep you posted.Regards,Mike
I'm used to forums being really wide and filling most of my screen, so the current theme here feels way too small for me. I made (read - cobbled together from various internet sources, since I don't know javascript) a userscript that changes the width of the forums to be much wider, and optionally moves the avatars over to the left side. Tested and works fine in Firefox 15.0.1 with Greasemonkey 1.6, and Chrome version 24.There are two versions - one with the avatars on the left (expandoculus.user.js), and one with them on the right (expandoculus-rightavvy.user.js).You can also edit the script and change the variables near the top of the file to change the proportions and width of the forum. By default, everything is set so you can just barely see all of a 1280x800 image on a 1920x1080 screen.expandoculus-0.2.zipTo install in Firefox, first install Greasemonkey, then go to any webpage and drag the downloaded script onto the window. Click install. To install in Chrome, go to the menu >
Who else would go insane if there was a limited edition Star Wars helmet with the Rift built in?X-Wing Pilot helmet?Storm/Clone Trooper edition?Maybe even the dome piece worn by Halo's Master Chief!Boomshakalaka!
For those who have received their device already; would you be willing to put up some videos of older adults first experience with virtual reality? I'm know the rift is a hit with the tech savvy, but I'm really curious to see the typical laymen or much older people's reaction To the device/experience. If you have any time please upload some video! (Youtube?) This would also help me understand what the expectations are for everyone else not involved in tech.. That is a major market and the reactions could spark some new ideas for software. Thank you!
This scared me just watching at 360p. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2A_h2AjJaMwImagine one of those tower workers filming with a Geonaute or other 360 camera and then a user could view the vid with an Oculus. Maybe use Spherical projection and project the video inside a Sphere with it's normals flipped.
Not VR related, but I have a copy of Terraria in my Steam inventory to give away. It might idle away a few hours for you while you wait for your Rift (oh go on then, I'll give you a chance even if you've got yours) :)If you'd like it, post a reply here, and I'll pick a post at random sometime tomorrow (Thursday, midday GMT ish) using a random number generator to see who gets it. You'll need a valid Steam account so I can gift it to you.*Recipient has now been randomly selected, details in post below*
My Oculus Rift has not arrived yet, and I am spending more time hitting refresh on different Oculus related websites then working... Need rift now...
You guys should have known this was coming... We're a brand new community on a brand new forum, so what better way to say hello then with a smile?Of course, participation is optional! If you'd like to post a picture but want some added anonymity, you can always take a picture while wearing your Rift developer kit! This is me dressed as a Ghostbuster at a convention last summer! This young girl approached me and sheepishly asked "can I get a picture with you?" to which I replied "Only if I can get a picture with you!"
I did the pre-order of Oculus Rift. Downloaded the SDK and I studied the code. I have a great curiosity to see the Oculus. I'm no forecast of when it will be sent. There is no date, since the queue is long. It would be interesting, at least, we know what position we are in the queue and, to what extent has already been met. Would it not be possible to have this information on the site or published weekly on this forum? Our position on pre-order could be sent by e-mail. What do you guys think? This will help me in my implementation plans of Oculus Rift.Thanks.
