Question

Next Gen Consoles targeting more than 10.7 Tflops?

Apparently Google Stadia has Sony and Microsoft concerned and rumors are flying that they will have their consoles exceed the 10.7 tflops of stadia's streaming service. That would be higher than a GTX 1080 at 9 teraflops.

According to the leak, Sony’s PS5 is aiming higher than Google Stadia’s 10.7 teraflop GPU. Not only the PS5, but Microsoft’s next Xbox codenamed Lockhart is also said to be gunning for the same target GPU.

The information comes from Kotaku’s Jason Schreier, who is a trusted source on industry insider knowledge. Schreier further claimed that both next-gen consoles are set to launch next year.

If this turns out to be legit, PSVR 2 could be a real contender and I wouldn't be surprised if Microsoft decides to jump in as well.

@Mradr - Some people like myself don't give a rats arse about RTX though and just wanted Nvidia to have a cheaper card in order to play VR games and 4K games with better performance.

Why wouldn't you care about more realistic lighting and reflections? It's all little steps to that eventual holodeck experience.

You guys know that holodeck wont work in real-life? It would be just big moving 2D screens on wall, floor and ceiling. You would still need some kind of glasses to make that 3d effect. Better to make it with hmd only.

Im sorry that i ruined Star trek, but that common misinformation about holodecks.

Nonsense. We may not have it next week but it'll happen at some point. There's a few pieces of Star Trek technology that have already been achieved. Needle free injections, lasers as weapons and we've started to successfully teleport atoms too.

As for consoles, consoles are for peasants. All the best people in the world play games on their PCs and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future  B)

Sony, Microsoft and even Nintendo can all sack my cook as far as I'm concerned.

Console or no, if Sony manages to bring all that tech to the table, I'm in lol. I plan to enjoy my Index (unless it sucks and I have to return it) for the foreseeable future. I likely will wait until Sony comes out with a Ps5 "Pro" update before I jump in though.

XBox Scarlett may be even faster than PS5, at least it should be 4 times faster than XBox One X and support 8K res and 120 Hz - but then again, it's probably similar to the PS5:

In another article they said the Scarlett gpu was 10% faster than RTX 2070, which would put it close to RTX 2080. But it's launching 18 months from now - that's 550 days or 47,304,000 seconds - so much can happen in that time! Maybe Valve can launch 2 or 3 games!  :D

But both PS5 and Scarlett use AMD gpus, might put a pressure on PC gaming and Nvidia to launch some 7nm RTX cards... I hope.

The 4 times faster and 8k resolution stuff are marketing speak. Odds are they are referring to going from 30fps to 120fps or something of that nature and 8k is obviously upscaled. The Navi 5700XT is only 37% faster than a RX 590 so the 4times claim would put these consoles faster than any card in existence by a massive amount lol.

I do look for the consoles to be a lot closer to PC though and should be on par with mid tier offerings when they come out at likely a better price point.

Yes, 60 fps in 4K would be awesome for next gen consoles and possible to achieve, anything beyond that I consider unreliable info. There was some info about MS considering VR support for Scarlett, but nothing has been confirmed - any again, Christmas 2020 is quite a long time into the future, especially with all the new HMDs constantly arriving these days.

I have a XBX and a Pro, and i have to say both consoles really do a amzing job for what is inside them, the Pro with GOW was simply amazing, and the XBX pushing 4k hdr in game slike Gears 4 or Forza 7 of FH4 is som, ething else, but apart from the whole 60 fps in 4k i don't really know what these new systems will offer, but i might add i have no issues with 30fps in 4k at all, and i have never had fps in games affect me in anyway, but i started gaming on tape loading systems so any games that offers up more than 10/15 fps is a bonus in my book. lol

Same here. The last console I bought was the original XBox back in 2000. Almost 20 years ago! But alas, the PS5 looks too fantastic to ignore. Especially now that I enjoy "family gaming" time. Like Cyber said above, the PS5 is poised to own.

I love Microsoft, but they will be in second place for a few more years to come.
