Question

Next Gen Consoles targeting more than 10.7 Tflops?

Apparently Google Stadia has Sony and Microsoft concerned and rumors are flying that they will have their consoles exceed the 10.7 tflops of stadia's streaming service. That would be higher than a GTX 1080 at 9 teraflops.

According to the leak, Sony’s PS5 is aiming higher than Google Stadia’s 10.7 teraflop GPU. Not only the PS5, but Microsoft’s next Xbox codenamed Lockhart is also said to be gunning for the same target GPU.

The information comes from Kotaku’s Jason Schreier, who is a trusted source on industry insider knowledge. Schreier further claimed that both next-gen consoles are set to launch next year.

If this turns out to be legit, PSVR 2 could be a real contender and I wouldn't be surprised if Microsoft decides to jump in as well.

Edit: There is just one thing that I don't like about Consoles and that is they don't include proper support for a keyboard & Mouse. If they did I would have probably jumped ship a long time ago. I just wish Sony would make a keyboard & Mouse or allow something to support these devices properly.

That's funny, I mainly PC game and only use controllers. K&M doesn't let me kick back with my feet up. I have no plans to upgrade my PC until real gen2 VR is out (with the new tech currently under construction) so a next gen console might end up my go to gaming platform for years to come. As long as I've gamed on PC it's really only been for two things. Steam deals and performance. Console deals are often as good now, sometimes better, especially with gamepass - can't get that on Steam, and if the new consoles do better than an i5-6600 and a 1070 in performance, then that lead goes to console too obviously.

I hate controllers so much lol. Even when I use my PS4 I use a Xim4 to use a mouse and keyboard. Controller is pretty much the main barrier to my enjoyment of consoles as well. I hope VR takes off and both go the way of the dinosaurs.
I mainly hate the lack of precision of the thumbsticks compared to a mouse. I can snap aim a mouse like nothing and hit my shot every time or I can clumsily move a stick over, which is at a fixed speed and hope auto aim helps me hit my shot for a quick flick lol. But different strokes I guess.

@Mradr - Some people like myself don't give a rats arse about RTX though and just wanted Nvidia to have a cheaper card in order to play VR games and 4K games with better performance.

Lots of people have said the same thing over a lot of features that later became the feature to have. RTX is first time release meaning not a lot software uses let alone any major features design for it. RT being the main software though to run using RTX. RT opens a BIG performance up lift to VR that could translate between 10 and up to 50% up lift between using VRS and Eye tracking for example. Other effects such as sound and graphical pipelines could also be design around using RT it self switch means we need RTX to have that happen. In the future - I think all games are going to switch to a RT pipeline because it allows a almost 90% scale factor from dual cards to dual layer of the same scale meaning something like MCM could be use to save a SHIT ton of money for both the customer and the manufacturer while providing per pixel 1000% performance boost in the next 30 years. Because it also is easier to scale - we don't need to throw extra hardware keeping the design simple. More or less a RT pipeline could allow you to play 16k as the new 1080p and up to 32k as the new 8k at 1000 FPS.

I understand what you are saying - don't get me wrong - NV pricing is really crazy right now. I am just point out the fact of why NV is going down that direction. They could have done it differently for sure - it's just the way cards are going to keep moving towards even for AMD.

With that said - people always want more performance without it costing more. The problem is we're starting to hit moors law and the cost to keep getting smaller and it continuing to keep getting increasing cost. NV didn't switch to a smaller node for the 20s so if they add more "performance" it has to come from somewhere. Craned, they did nerf their 16s cards so they didn't compete with their 20s cards though.

Why wouldn't you care about more realistic lighting and reflections? It's all little steps to that eventual holodeck experience.

Because of the price it's added to the Nvida Cards.

You guys know that holodeck wont work in real-life? It would be just big moving 2D screens on wall, floor and ceiling. You would still need some kind of glasses to make that 3d effect. Better to make it with hmd only.

Im sorry that i ruined Star trek, but that common misinformation about holodecks.

As I pointed out - it's not about the holodeck - is about performance. RT could allow for a whole new render engine something 10 to 100 times more powerful then we see today. Instead of wasting soo much time rendering stuff we don't see - it could render and update per pixel to a level whatever resolution we want to it instead. Requiring more base work - but something RT can handle as it scales 90% compare to todays hardware that only scales 30%.

Looks like Sony is going to own.

It’s foolish to say that right now. Wait until the new Xbox is actually out and see what happens.

Hardware wise I think the Xbox will be amazing However as a high end pc owner already I know I will get most of the Xbox "exclusives" already therefore I am way more interested in PS5 myself.

Fiat Coupe, gone. 350Z gone. Dirty nappies, no sleep & practical transport incoming. Thank goodness for VR :)

I wasn't being serious about the holodeck. Lots of Star Trek stuff is bullshit, like the socialist utopia where everything is free and no one needs to work unless they want. That not happenin' either! Good thing it's just a show. I hope no one out there dreams that it could become reality. Jacking into the brain somehow Matrix style is probably the best way to a holodeck.

PSVR 2 to have Wireless, HDR, 120hz and eye tracking?

HDR could be a big improvement in VR.
