Question

Oculus RIFT S vs Oculus Quest 2

I recently purchased a used Quest 2, but so far, I have not been able to get it working as I keep getting an error saying my broadband is slow, which is strange as I am on the Sky Full Fibre 500 service. I have raised a support ticket but not heard yet.

I have been looking at various YouTube videos on the Oculus Rift S which although an old system still seems to be getting good reports.

My main reason for  VR is to use it with MSFS 2024 and X-Plane 12.

I believe that the Rift S is not wireless and is connected via the HDMI input on the PC.

If this is the case is it more or less plug & play installation??

Any advice welcome please??

This is what Google AI says about that.

The Sky Full Fibre 500 service works with the Quest 2, but users often face issues with the Sky Max Hub (white router) due to its default security settings, which can cause connection problems with Meta Quest Link and Air Link. [1, 2, 3, 4]

Reports indicate the Sky Max Hub's default WPA3-T security mode can block or disrupt the Quest 2's connection, resulting in failures to connect, frequent disconnections, or a black screen. [1]

Key Troubleshooting Steps

  • Change WiFi Security Mode (Most Common Fix): Access your Sky router settings and change the security mode from the default WPA3-T to WPA2-PSK or plain WPA3. [1, 2]
  • Check Sky Broadband Shield: Ensure that the Sky Broadband Shield in your account settings is not blocking game services. []
  • Reset the Hub: If the internet light is flashing, turn the hub off for 5 minutes and then back on to refresh the connection. [1, 2]
  • Disable Firewall/Antivirus: Temporarily disable firewalls or antivirus software on your computer to rule out interference with the Meta Horizon Link app. [1]

For Quest 2 Air Link (Wireless)

  • Split 2.4GHz and 5GHz Networks: Ensure your Quest 2 is connected to the 5GHz network, as 2.4GHz often provides poor performance for VR streaming.
  • Disable "WiFi Max" Smart Switching: Some users find that turning off the "WiFi Max" combined SSID feature (separating 2.4 and 5GHz) improves stability.

For Wired Link (Cable)

  • Ensure Proper Connection: Connect the Max hub via Ethernet (Port 4 WAN) to the Openreach ONT.
  • Use Proper Cable: Use a high-quality USB-C 3.0 cable for the Quest 2. [1, 2]

If issues persist, it may be necessary to check if the Sky WiFi Max add-on is required for better coverage, though changing the security settings is usually sufficient to resolve compatibility issues. [1]
