Question

Surprise for your unneeded TF2 hat code

I've been informed by one of our members that this is most likely a scam to get you to give your hat away for cheap. There's no concrete evidence to prove this; however, I recommend you keep your hat - it could be worth far more in the future than one of these $20-30 games (and most gamers should have 3/5 of those games, anyway). You're free to do what you wish with your hat code, of course, but use your own discretion here.

This message is dedicated to all of those (9,522 Kickstarter backers) who got the Oculus Rift TF2 hat code and do not need it. I was not able to get the headset because of finance problems :( But as I know there are people who do not care about the code, so I'm willing to honor you gentleman gesture buy gifting you one of the following games of your choice :)

Natural Selection 2 http://store.steampowered.com/app/4920/
Half-Life 2 Episode Two http://store.steampowered.com/app/420/
Global Ops: Commando Libya http://store.steampowered.com/app/200020/
Counter Strike: Source http://store.steampowered.com/app/240/
DOTA 2 http://store.steampowered.com/app/570/

Feel free to make me happy, PM me and be sure to add your e-mail address so I can send you a game of your choice using Steam :)

PS: The code will show up as a button to retrieve it here: https://www.oculus.com/sales/
However, it won't show up until your order has been set to at least 'processing' or you were a kickstarter backer.
Do NOT activate your hat code in Steam.

Thank you.

Sincerely,
Joanna

    What a storm!
No one was, is and will be scammed. If this item is important for you, hold on to it, no one is forcing you to exchange it. Move on. Good luck selling it for $100 :)

PS: To those who are comparing this to unusual hats in TF2 you are not correct. When unusual hats are rare, the TF2 VR hat is not. There are 9,522 Kickstarter hat codes alone + unknown number of codes which were added after TF2 campaign, which makes the total over 10 0000 easily. Not comparable to unusual rare hats with special effects which are only a couple in game.

Thanks. I have to pass this. But I appreciate your short and simple offer.

Some games I'm offering here are worth up to $25-$30 depending where you buy. The only reason I'm offering them is that I got them as gifts and I see no point holding them. I would not pay real money for this hat. Some of you guys here seem to like playing Sherlock Holmes and creating conspiracy theories. Reality is much simpler. Value depends on offers and demand.

First off, i'm between the notions that there should either be locking of this thread, or moving it to the offtopic section. (although i'm of the opinion this shouldn't be here at all)

Second most of these games here themselves, were given away for free, or extremely cheap at one point or another, and the fact that a free and easily obtainable game Dota 2 would be offered seems fairly, scammish already. Honestly, despite perhaps all good moral intent you "may" actually have, i'm not willing to let risk those of us developing/supporting Oculus get possibly scammed of a badge of honor for the purpose of netting a profit by this sometimes disgusting side of TF2's game community.

At a minimum, we have no proof to trust that you are in fact not trying to scam Oculus backers just to make a profit, if the case were you "honestly" just wanted the hat because you were unable to obtain it, I would be of a different opinion, but in this case, i'm not willing to give the benefit of the doubt from how endemic scams like this are for that game.

Apparently an oculus tf2 hat sold on ebay 3 days ago for $113 (another forum was watching the bidding). There's another one on there now with a price of $99.99.

Its your opinion. I have an opinion your post should not be in my topic as well.

Are you also going to write to Gabe Newell and call him a scammer for selling DOTA 2 for 27.99€?
Please do it now. Save the world from evil Gabe scams, cause he sells this free stuff in millions!!!http://store.steampowered.com/app/570/?snr=1_7_15__13

    The eagle has landed. lol

Sure you have no proof. As you have no proof I'm a scammer.
And by the way I have no proof to trust you as well. Thanks for trolling my thread.

You do understand that you are making false allegations, scaring away people and acting like some sort of guardian angel? You can wear you "badge of honor" and consider your life complete but please stop trying to play some father figure teaching people how they should live. I'm bored of these scamming acquisitions which have no proof whatsoever.

Again, no one is forcing anyone. If you do not like my offer. Move on.

This is all very nice, but I hope you understand if 10 000+ TF2 hat codes flood eBay, the price will not be the same?
You see, not all of you can expect to be so lucky as some guy in eBay. But I'm not against it, feel free to go and put your codes there. Sure you will see no scammers, and everyone goes home rich and happy :)

In fact at the end of the day when there is 10 000 codes on eBay, I will retract my offer. And will pay 0.01 cents per code. If I decide to do so.

In reality, to get overpaid (what most comments here seem to expect) you need a market situation where demand is higher than offers. What this thread already did, is that an unknown number of people who were unaware of their code or really did not care about it, will now or later probably try find some good use for it.

If you really are into stupid virtual items and dark side of TF2 this thread is obviously not for you. My offer is targeted to people who do not really care about this stuff. I really do not know your demographics, but it is funny think about there might be people who used to laugh about virtual items and are now suddenly getting a bit gold fevered. Relax, take a chill pill :)

Despite the trolls poisoning this thread I will try to make better offers.

How Dead Island Game of the Year Edition sounds?

Yes, I'm really sorry I got it for free during Raptr campaign (500 free codes where distributed among people who completed various tasks) a month ago so you are warned. Those who prefer to get it for free are welcome to build a time machine and head back in time to be a part of this past event ;) Please note that even if you manage to fly back in time you still need to complete various tasks to get a "free" code. Like owing some zombie game and having 500h+ gaming time on it etc if I remember correctly was one of the many requirements. And you have to be among tens of thousands of people who nervously hit F5 when trying to redeem your "free" code of 500 available. At midnight. But its free! :)

PS: This offer will not be available for people who called me scammer, because I do not trust them :)
