Question

Surprise for your unneeded TF2 hat code

I've been informed by one of our members that this is most likely a scam to get you to give your hat away for cheap. There's no concrete evidence to prove this; however, I recommend you keep your hat - it could be worth far more in the future than one of these $20-30 games (and most gamers should have 3/5 of those games, anyway). You're free to do what you wish with your hat code, of course, but use your own discretion here.

This message is dedicated to all of those (9,522 Kickstarter backers) who got the Oculus Rift TF2 hat code and do not need it. I was not able to get the headset because of finance problems :( But as I know there are people who do not care about the code, so I'm willing to honor you gentleman gesture buy gifting you one of the following games of your choice :)

Natural Selection 2 http://store.steampowered.com/app/4920/
Half-Life 2 Episode Two http://store.steampowered.com/app/420/
Global Ops: Commando Libya http://store.steampowered.com/app/200020/
Counter Strike: Source http://store.steampowered.com/app/240/

PS: The code will show up as a button to retrieve it here: https://www.oculus.com/sales/
However, it won't show up until your order has been set to at least 'processing' or you were a kickstarter backer.
Do NOT activate your hat code in Steam.

Thank you.

Sincerely,
Joanna

I'm just slightly curious, and I do have a rebuke to what was said earlier, but it's my understanding you would only need one hat, yes? After-all you said you just didn't get one because you missed out, and having two would not serve any purpose, as you could only use one at a time, and they're entirely the same.

So just asking for clarification here, but this deal should be over, yes? Otherwise why are you listing an updated offers list?

EAPidgeon, thank you for your question.

tldr, short answer: I do not mind getting more stuff as I'm into this.

    Longer answer:
When I started this topic I was mainly planning to get one for myself. As the time passed by and I was fighting here trying to prove I'm not a camel* and passed this forum link to my friends I got some interesting feedback. I was called a fool for coming out public with my request and I was also told it would have been smarter to approach single persons using private messages. I'm personally against such thing as it is too time demanding and I do not mind being publicly visible. I also find this topic to be educative for everyone.
The deal is, there is an interest for these hats among my friends, but instead of making several trading posts (which probably are not welcome here anyway) I thought it is better too keep it in one topic. Shortly, some of my real life friends and gaming buddies would like to have this hat as well. As I have already started a topic here, and I still have some games laying around I'm willing to continue. I will probably keep adding games and there seem to be another pretty nice offer on its way, we will see. And as hats are in-game currency which we are using in TF2, I will sure find some good use for it. So yes, I'm a trader. I'm a collector. I'm a sinner :)
If admins will not tolerate this, I will of course respect that and leave. If this topic stays open, feel free to come by and see what offers I may have.

For those who have deeper interest in TF2 hat economy, here is a nice starter page: http://tf2finance.com/ But I have warned you - good old-fashioned work and education is what pays :)

    * Camel reference explained:
A scared rabbit runs past lion. "Hey lion, you know, they will castrate all camels!!!?".
"So why are you running rabbit, you are not a camel!?" asks the lion.
"Well try proving this later when you got no balls left" said the rabbit and continued running.

    Hi,

I'd like to trade one hat code for one of these Steam games or any other indie-game on Steam.
    Total War Shogun 2
    Demigod
    Nuclear Dawn

And if you don't like games, maybe you'd be interested in something from Amazon - perhaps a book or...

Feel free to send me a message.

I think people should either keep it as a momento/to sell later on, or give it to someone they believe deserves it :) The item is a really important piece of video game memorabilia and will have a lot of value when VR kicks off - both sentimental and money wise - so at least sell it to someone who's passionate about VR and deserves to have such an item, not just sponging off the support that other people have given to Oculus after they saw its TF2 value.. Don't trust most TF2 traders, thats coming from a TF2 trader myself.

I am a proud owner of an Oculus Rift and have been trying to sell my virtual hat to people in the TF2 community. I just thought everyone might want to know how much other people and myself have been offered.

I have received an offer of an Orbiting Fire Modest Pile of Scrap valued at $207.79.

On this forum post another owner has got offers of $200 USD.

Currently there are ~700 of these hats that have been redeemed. To put this in perspective there is another TF2 hat (The Hat of Undeniable Wealth and Respect) that sells for ~$500 USD, and there are 600 of these hats.

These hats are truly a piece of history, don't let them go cheap.

(First post here, I was doing some research on how much these hats were worth and I couldn't let a community of developers like myself get scammed)
