The "I'm effin Quarantined" Megathread

Governments across the Globe are in Quarantine, so I figured that this community could use a thread to discuss our first-hand experience of its impact. As a side note, I never would have guessed that a global pandemic would be the primary driver to getting VR more mainstream!
:p

For me, I had taken a long break from VR. I have maybe engaged in VR for 1 hour ever 2-3 weeks. It's been that way for nearly 6 months now. Mostly because I feel that I've experienced so much since I first acquired my Rift in 2016; I got to the point that everything (even new AAA titles) started to feel like 'more of the same.' This is something that has impacted me before. For example, I began gaming with the Atari 2600 as a kid, moved on to NES, SNES, Sega, and eventually PC Gaming. But I took a very long break from gaming (over 5 years) because I hit a point where everything on every gaming platform felt like a regurgitation of something I've done before.

However, now that I'm stuck home for at least 2 weeks during quarantine... it's time to jump back on to the fray!

So...
  1. What games/experiences will you be engaging in with VR?
  2. What non-VR activities will be occupying your time?
  3. Are you one of the people who can work from home during quarantine? Or is this pandemic negatively impacting your job?
  4. Are you hoarding food and toilet paper?

I'll answer first:
  1. I will be (finally) completing SkyrimVR. Before I took my VR "break," I had already completed both DLC's in SkyrimVR, and I'm already near the end of the main quest. After that, I will be loading up Stormland.
  2. I'm playing through Divinity Original Sin for the first time, in preparation for the upcoming release of Baldur's Gate 3. Beyond software, I will be doing lots of exercise.. Gotta keep up the conditioning!
  3. Since I'm a software engineer who has been working from home primarily for at least the past 10 years, this quarantine will be... more of the same.
  4. I'm a non-hoarder, but wondering if I will regret it.

I am stuck onboard a cruise ship. Im a crew member. Right now we are in isolation for a few more days.

Lucky I got my oculus quest with me and play beat saber for exercise ::smiley:

Any known cases onboard? Probably a bit late now but if you do have some then get the captain to turn off the air conditioning if he/she hasn't done already!

Stay safe! ?

Yea, lot's of ships have some confirmed cases, but they are not releasing the numbers :(
We are isolated in guest cabins with an outside window, view is pretty nice. Im an expert level introvert so im not  that bad off..

Wow, we have someone here on a cruise ship?? Oh my! Best wishes!

If I were on a cruise ship, I'd ask for a life raft and just go at it solo! lol

In some ways i am safer here than in my own country :)) . Mainly because if i were to go home, i would be quarantined in some government employed hotel, and those are nasty.

I've always fancied going on a cruise. Once this nightmare is over we'll probably see plenty of cut price cruises going I think.

I haven't had a proper holiday since I was 15 years old tbh. I've either been too skint or too busy working and unable to take more than a few days off at a time.

Yea, depending on where you are, you can go on a cruise for like 4 days for like 300 usd, and for sure after this is over the prices will be way lower so people come back to cruising :))

Generally I don't have an interest in cruises (I'm not a fan of deep water), but I REALLY want to go on an antarctic cruise. That would be awesome.
I can afford it, it's just hard to get the time.

Celebrity Infinity i think does that, 9 days antarctic cruise if I'm not mistaken. I never managed to do it yet, but I heard its amazing. If you are from the usa I also recommend seeing Alaska, it's really cool and a lot to see. If you are from Europe, go to a Baltic cruise :D

But yea, its going to be a while for cruising to start again... months even :|

I did a Viking river cruise (Paris to Prague) a few years ago when my wife was pregnant, because it was our last chance to travel for a while, and she wasn’t up to the rigours of our usual vacations in her condition. It wasn’t cheap, but it was a great trip, and I’d do that again in a heartbeat (although they don’t allow young children, so we won’t be doing it anytime soon).

I feel sorry for the people who went ahead with their trips and ended up in this situation, as well as the crew members who are now stuck on the ships. I can understand the desire to not lose out on a non-refundable (and expensive) cruise, but knowing the outcome, most would probably pay the price again to get out of there.

I went on a cruise once over to the waters of Mexico. Nothing exotic, but I did get in the ocean and swim with a dolphin for a solid hour. That was fairly fucking epic itself. As for the cruise experience? Meh, I wouldn't do that type again.

I've heard great things about the Arctic and Viking experiences though. Definitely on my bucket list!

I've heard some bad stories about the big ocean cruises, but the Viking one was great. Excellent food, all inclusive (no nickel-and-diming hidden costs), and great excursions each day throughout France, Luxembourg, Germany, and the Czech Republic. The river ships are smaller (we had about 100 guests) so you're not competing with massive crowds for food, drink, and activities, and the staff took very good care of us. We were the youngest people on board, but we met some great fun people and never lacked good company for meals and outings.

My wife and I were meant to be cruising around Japan right now.  Glad that was cancelled early enough.  Still waiting for our refund though.  It was a package deal through a large travel agency so at least we don't need chase airlines and hotels.  Hopefully we'll get there next year, lol!

Antarctic is best in southern hemisphere summer (december-jan). :)

I'm in Australia, so generally I'd need to fly to Argentina, that's where most of the closest (to Aus) cruises start. Not all though, some go through Perth.

There's a great anime from 2 years ago called A Place Further Than The Universe, which is a 13 episode story about 4 girls who go on an expedition to antarctica. It's done with an eye towards realism (packing, life onboard the ship, living at the base camp, etc).

Quick update,

I've been spending a lot of time in a new Metroidvania game called, Blasphemous. Highly recommended if you are a fan of this genre. It's visual style is a throwback to the true classics (similar to what Pixel Ripped did).

It's a flat pancake game, however... it plays incredibly well in Virtual Desktop. I have spent hours playing this while in the Rift, with a large gaming screen floating in a space Nebula.

I grabbed a trailer off of YouTube and then was mildly shocked to see that this was coming for the Nintendo Switch. I'm not very light-hearted, but this game is incredibly sacrilegious; so I'm surprised to see it moving to the more "family friendly" Nintendo platform.
