The "I'm effin Quarantined" Megathread

Governments across the Globe are in Quarantine, so I figured that this community could use a thread to discuss our first-hand experience of its impact. As a side note, I never would have guessed that a global pandemic would be the primary driver to getting VR more mainstream!
:p

For me, I had taken a long break from VR. I have maybe engaged in VR for 1 hour ever 2-3 weeks. It's been that way for nearly 6 months now. Mostly because I feel that I've experienced so much since I first acquired my Rift in 2016; I got to the point that everything (even new AAA titles) started to feel like 'more of the same.' This is something that has impacted me before. For example, I began gaming with the Atari 2600 as a kid, moved on to NES, SNES, Sega, and eventually PC Gaming. But I took a very long break from gaming (over 5 years) because I hit a point where everything on every gaming platform felt like a regurgitation of something I've done before.

However, now that I'm stuck home for at least 2 weeks during quarantine... it's time to jump back on to the fray!

So...
  1. What games/experiences will you be engaging in with VR?
  2. What non-VR activities will be occupying your time?
  3. Are you one of the people who can work from home during quarantine? Or is this pandemic negatively impacting your job?
  4. Are you hoarding food and toilet paper?

I'll answer first:
  1. I will be (finally) completing SkyrimVR. Before I took my VR "break," I had already completed both DLC's in SkyrimVR, and I'm already near the end of the main quest. After that, I will be loading up Stormland.
  2. I'm playing through Divinity Original Sin for the first time, in preparation for the upcoming release of Baldur's Gate 3. Beyond software, I will be doing lots of exercise.. Gotta keep up the conditioning!
  3. Since I'm a software engineer who has been working from home primarily for at least the past 10 years, this quarantine will be... more of the same.
  4. I'm a non-hoarder, but wondering if I will regret it.

Just can't stop playing Borderlands 2 VR, 68 hours over the last two weeks, what the hell, but on a positive that is 68 hours standing while playing the game, and of course slightly dancing to your background music of choice as you wander the games vast areas, just such a fun game, critical headshots have never been this much fun. lol

Bought that a while back, haven't played it yet.

Just got my 1TB SSD delivered but don't have a bloody screw for the thing. I suspect it's taped underneath my motherboard, which is quite common, but I can't be arsed to take my PC apart to get to it so I've paid 3 quid or so for one on Ebay. ?

Will be arriving tomorrow or Saturday with a bit of luck. Decided to go for an M.2 NVMe job. ?

^^You need to play it, it is just such a fun game in VR, i have tried it
on both the CV1 and Vive and they have done a good job on controls over
both, although the CV1 is just ahead due to having thumbsticks....but
such a cracking game in VR.

Congrats.  I have 2 of them in my PC.  They are lightning fast and make 2.5 inch drives seem like snails at times.

I have 2 x Samsung 970 EVO Plus 500GB.  No raid but I use for Primary and one for VR games.  When Samsung comes out with the PCI Gen 4 versions I will upgrade and put these into another build.

BTW that screw is probably in your motherboards box.  Usually are.  Which SSD did you get?
April 25, 2020
Nope, not in the box. I have the top of a 50 x CD thingummybob with all my screws and stuff from my last few builds and there's no sign of it.

It's probably taped underneath my motherboard I reckon. Should get a screw tomorrow (ooh-err missus) in the post so I can sort it all out when I get it.

This is going to be my third SSD, have a 120GB one as my system drive, a 480GB one with VR games on it and this 1TB one.

Am going to clone my 480GB one to my 1TB drive, then clone my 120GB one to the 480GB one which will leave me my 120GB one going spare.

I got a Crucial P1 1TB NVMe drive, the P2s are coming out now so the prices have dropped for the P1s. Only cost me £93. ?

I picked up XCOM: Chimera Squad for $10 ($15 CDN). It’s on sale for half-price for another few days, I think—not bad for a game that just released out of the blue a couple weeks after being revealed. I’ve been having a good time with it so far.
DK2, CV1, Go, Quest, Quest 2, Quest 3. Try my game: Cyclops Island Demo

Thanks for the heads up, Nalex! I knew nothing about these games. Just checked out their content, and made 3 purchases:
  • XCOM 2
  • XCOM 2 Expansion
  • XCOM: Chimera Squad
I'll be playing these after I finish Blasphemous!
