The "I'm effin Quarantined" Megathread

Governments across the Globe are in Quarantine, so I figured that this community could use a thread to discuss our first-hand experience of its impact. As a side note, I never would have guessed that a global pandemic would be the primary driver to getting VR more mainstream!
:p

For me, I had taken a long break from VR. I have maybe engaged in VR for 1 hour ever 2-3 weeks. It's been that way for nearly 6 months now. Mostly because I feel that I've experienced so much since I first acquired my Rift in 2016; I got to the point that everything (even new AAA titles) started to feel like 'more of the same.' This is something that has impacted me before. For example, I began gaming with the Atari 2600 as a kid, moved on to NES, SNES, Sega, and eventually PC Gaming. But I took a very long break from gaming (over 5 years) because I hit a point where everything on every gaming platform felt like a regurgitation of something I've done before.

However, now that I'm stuck home for at least 2 weeks during quarantine... it's time to jump back on to the fray!

So...
  1. What games/experiences will you be engaging in with VR?
  2. What non-VR activities will be occupying your time?
  3. Are you one of the people who can work from home during quarantine? Or is this pandemic negatively impacting your job?
  4. Are you hoarding food and toilet paper?

I'll answer first:
  1. I will be (finally) completing SkyrimVR. Before I took my VR "break," I had already completed both DLC's in SkyrimVR, and I'm already near the end of the main quest. After that, I will be loading up Stormland.
  2. I'm playing through Divinity Original Sin for the first time, in preparation for the upcoming release of Baldur's Gate 3. Beyond software, I will be doing lots of exercise.. Gotta keep up the conditioning!
  3. Since I'm a software engineer who has been working from home primarily for at least the past 10 years, this quarantine will be... more of the same.
  4. I'm a non-hoarder, but wondering if I will regret it.

Keeping the cat well fed is a smart move in the event you run out of food, tastes like chicken.

Also because if you pass out due to sickness a hungry cat will eat your face off.

We are 'self isolating' here - not that we have signs of the virus currently, but because my wife is high-risk...
Roll on next Monday - Alyx will help a few hours pass :)

We had a state of emergency declaration this morning in Ontario, so now bars and restaurants have been ordered to close, except for take-out. Still going to work, though.

Closures are starting throughout Texas as well. By the weekend I'm anticipating only Pharmacies and Groceries will be open.

Yeah, I see you guys have some lockdowns or general quarantines in some parts of the US at the state level. I think we need to be doing more to keep people home if we're going to get ahead of this thing... I expect that we'll have a more severe lockdown by the end of the week, but today's local numbers were at least encouraging--we had fewer new cases reported in Ontario than the trend was predicting, so hopefully the measures in place have started to break the exponential growth rate. I feel like we may have started to act just in time to stave off the worst outcome.

Apparently australian scientists believe they have found a cure for corona, it's going to enter a 50 hospital trial. The drugs involved are already approved here for other purposes.

You'd be surprised how motivated we are when the Bunnings sausage sizzle is closed down.

New Orleans has the same closures.
Movies, restaurants ( take out drive trough only),  no crowds over 50 ( which idiots both tourist and local are ignoring ), and the idiot mayor suspended gun sales (because the virus apparently targets gun owners).

WAAAGH!

So how many people have watched Contagion this last week? it seems to be a better movie than the last time I watched it.

I have a dental hygiene appointment tomorrow and instead of the usual phone call reminder today, they had a lot of questions about my general health and recent travel history. Was going to get a haircut afterwards but I wouldn't be surprised if the barbour isn't shut. My hair get's super uncontrollable if it strays too far from a number 4 clipper setting.

Dodgy hair and an hour or 2 of the Rift's halo is going to be enough to give my neighbours the willies.

My Mum and I have made a pact. If one of us snuffs it the other one will sue the Chinese government for letting this thing out of their dodgy lab in the first place. :D

I really hope those drug trials work okay, things are going to get a bit mental over the next few months otherwise.

I sent an email to Asda asking if they can prioritise the elderly and high risk people for deliveries, if they can't then I might have to call my local police station in a few weeks to get some food in for me if I don't have any luck going to a 24 hour Tesco that's a 20 minute bus ride away. Am planning on going at 2am, luckily there's a 24 hour bus service running that I can get.

I'll also be using an improvised mask made out of a scarf that I'm going to cover in hand sanitiser. :o
