I know what you mean about the index controllers at first but you get used to them. I still think Touch are near on perfect in design though. I love the base stations and the lack of USB. The finger tracking is good but if I am honest thumb and index finger would be more than enough. I think I prefer a trigger for grip but you get used to it.

IThey do ooze quality though, and the thumb sticks are nice and clicky now.

Main problem with the Index controllers is the no game but Alyx - and maybe Garden of the Sea - fully supports them. Having a grip force sensors is simple awesome (test in Moon Dust, crush cans in Alyx) - and even the track pad (Track Button) also give motor feedback.

The stuff we can do, if/when devs support it  <3

Try Doom VFR - makes good use of the track pad (track button).

Using Revive, often aften a few seconds I no longer notice I'm not using Touch - which is quite impressive design by Valve.

Rune, I gotta say crushing cans in Alyx is awesome, lol!  I'm still getting used to the Index grip actions and pressures required but so far I kinda wish there was a large capacitive  button that did the same thing.  Every time I grip the index controller a little on the hard side the whole controller rotates in my hands.  Hopefully by the time I get through Alyx I'll have a better grip on this (pun intended, groan, lol!).

Thanks Rune,
I'll probably start off with Alyx from the start and hopefully finally finish it, lol!  By the time I do this I'm sure my Index controllers will feel a lot more natural.  Cheers.

When you finish Alyx, be sure and watch all the credits to the end.

Why Don?  You listed as a top G2 scorer or something, lol!  Just kidding mate.  If I ever finish Alyx I will def watch credits to the end.  As usual, probably just a hint at a sequel would be my guess.

Never had the issue, sounds like the strap is too loose, but be careful not to tighten it too much reducing the blood flow ;)

Yea, that was my thoughts with them too. For what Touch brought to VR in 2016/2017 is insane. Index controllers shine though in social games/environments. Where other controllers have to rely on capacitive buttons for a couple of fingers, or hotkeys/key bindings to do complex gestures you can just make whatever gesture you want with your fingers. It's easily the best controller for VR chat type games.

But for general gaming it really doesn't add much. Even with the panned G2 controllers without any capactive tracking at all, I don't' really feel like I'm missing much. Need to make a fist for something? I grab the grip button and the Trigger. Need to make OK? Just grab the trigger. Need to point? Just grab the Grip and the index will stay out. The only difference is that you actually have to activate the button over just resting a finger on it like Touch or being close to it like Index. Maybe one day someone will make games that fully utilizes finger tracking but it's not here yet and unless you're a die hard social gamer it's more of a luxury than a necessity at this point.

That being said, it does have a cool factor to it even when playing coop and you can gesture at will and your friend can't lol and it does add a little immersion to some games. Plus you got the whole light house tracking system which to me is better than constellation with all the USB cables and for pure accuracy and volume is much better than any inside out. It's the best overall tracking system when you look at everything.

Honestly, while finger tracking is fun, this was the biggest disappointment to me. Noone utilized it outside of a couple of niche use cases. The rock crushing demo on the moon was bad ass but in the name of parity, devs want to cater to a grip button. Seems like it wouldn't be hard to do at this point since all of the major headsets now have an analog grip button which can function like an axis. You could set the rock/can to crush at 95% or something and let people just halfway squeeze for a normal state and it would work on all of them. Index would just have to squeeze hard to crush it and others slam the grip button.

@pyroth309  I still think that my Rift cv1 2-3 sensor tracking is every bit a good as with 2x SteamVR 2.0 base stations, and a little less susceptible to room conditions like reflective surfaces.  Like you say, the USB cables are a pita though.

Overall, I think both systems work very well, and like you say, a lot better than Rift S or Quest (1 or 2) inside-out tracking without external sensors.  Those still work pretty well though and are a bit more convenient to setup, esp. if you VR in different rooms.

One pleasant observation with my new Index controllers is that they seem to have better coverage and stability with my 2x 2.0 base stations and Vive Pro headset than my Vive wands.  If I placed my Vive wands on my desk with flight sims like xp11 they would often fly off into the sunset, virtually of course, lol!.
