I look forward to having G2 like sharpness with Index peripheral vision/FoV and Quest 2 convenience. I think Deckard and likely Quest 3 will check most of the boxes I care about and we'll be closer to one that does it all.

Ok so Vive Pro 2 is on the way to HTC in Seattle via Fed Ex.

Hopefully they get me sorted.

Just had a go in MSFS 2020 with the Index, I sure miss that cockpit clarity I was getting in the Vive Pro 2 with it. Well at least I can still fly in VR whist awaiting for my hopefully fixed VP2.

Ok so received the Vive Pro 2 unit this morning. They sent me a replacement unit along with a new cable for it as well. Have been testing it the last hour or so, so far so good it is really smooth!

Kudos to HTC Repair in Seattle for getting me sorted! I  have seen some bad stories of some of their overseas support over on the HTC forums but very glad that was not the case for me here in the states.  Per their instructions I only sent the headset with no speakers, no face mask , and no cable. They sent me a replacement that had all of those with exception of Link box.

So in my case seems I got great support from their Seattle center, very pleased.

I know it is replacement headset as it has a totally different serial number.

Fun thing, I guess UploadVR reads my posts, lol, but I've said it for long that we do not need more hardware, we need more high quality content - and UploadVR now says the same:

https://uploadvr.com/pc-vr-new-content-editorial/

Btw, had a totally awesome experience with Gnomes and Goblins today - using Index res 400% I got solid 90 fps using Ultra settings! And the game looked fantastic - much better than CV1 - and all blur was gone! With CV1 I can do ss 2.0, but not 2.5, if I want solid 90 fps. But how can I then get solid 90 fps with Index res 400% which is much higher than CV1 ss 2.5?! No clue apart from native Steam drivers working better with extreme res than Oculus native drivers. Totally amazing getting 90 fps with an incredible res 400% in this normally very gpu demanding game.

So I don't need more hardware at all it seems, but I'd love more Alyx class content 🙂

Many people on this forum have been saying that exact thing for years. The phrase "software is king" goes as far back as 2016 when most enthusiasts on this forum discussed Hardware vs Software needs in VR.

It's great that you agree as well. But it's a bit odd for you to suggest that it was only you saying it and Upload VR read and stole your idea lol. Search the forum history. We've all been saying it for 5 years.

"If we want to go forth, we have to look back" 😉

In these Questified times, full-blooded PCVR AAA-ish games aren't numerous - but some of the older games may shine like never before using extreme res. Mage's Tale is another example - using Index and res 150 - 200% the game was very blurry and I found it unenjoyable using lcd. Now I just tested it with res 400% - and got nice performance (some dips below 90, might go for res 300 - 350 %), and the blur was totally gone - the game has razor-sharp image quality and shines like never before. I took a few shots:

The secret to this shot is to focus on the ceiling, click to enlarge the image - can you see the incredible sharpness even on very distant objects? This is provided by extreme amounts of super sampling (this is Index res 400%, about 35 mill pixels per frame for both eyes - or twice the res as Rift CV1 ss 2.0)

Golden statues no longer look like made of melted plastic

Textures look jaw-droppingly good

Hands look awesome - and check out the floor textures

Stones look like real stones

I'm probably only about 50% through Mage's Tale - really happy I didn't finish it already. The game is 27GB, so it's bigger than Lone Echo 2 😉 Surely those totally amazing textures are taking up much space.

The big fov and the sound quality really make this game shine on the Index too - and the game was made for external tracking.

If this game launched today I really don't think it would bow to anyone, the British humor is awesome. Using Index and extreme res, this feels like a new game - immersion and presence just reached a new level.

Ah, back to using antagonistic phrases like "Questified" again? I thought we were beyond all that by now 😂

I completed this game when it was first released and it was never blurry nor unplayable. It looked amazing on the Rift CV1, and looks even better on the Quest. And remember, Quest has better improvements with Glare and SDE than Index.

Should we call anything with noticeable Glare and SDE "Indexified" too? 😋

Making the graphics better doesn't improve the gameplay experience. However, if someone truly wants to revisit some older classics and enjoy them in ways like never before... then dropping the cable and going tetherless is the real game-changer. Simply increasing the graphics quality offers nothing new in the overall experience itself.

These are the images I loaded from my lower-end machine, and the game looks fantastic.

Here's my full review of the game for anyone interested:

Seems Index is coming back down under - but you probably need to be very quick 😎

That tells me the successor to Index is still a ways off.

BTW MechWarrior 5 Mercenaries with VR Mod  is absolutely gorgeous in the Index. I love the extra FOV in that game. I am already well over 100 hours in it and still going strong. All in single player - campaign and career modes both. Currently Index is my headset of choice for MW5 Mercenaries.

Interesting, also in Wolfenstein Cyberpilot I really notice the big fov much more than in other games. So fov really comes to play when in a cockpit? 🤔 Remember to use Index res 375% in Cyberpilot if you try that game (I thought I was using res 250%, but it was 375%).

How does than MW5 Mercenaries work? Do I just need to buy this game and then add a mod?

Does look awesome 🙂

RuneSR2

I think I have screwed up. Was checking out the different channel settings for the Lighthouse 2.0 base stations, and now they don't come on but stay in sleep mode. Light stay blue. Any ideas?? I can for them in Base Station s device settings and it does not find them. Help! Lol.

Edit - Never mind got it by unplugging and replugging them back in to wall power.

No still screwed, they just show green now but do not show up in Steam VR. Apparently I have really messed something up somehow.

I somehow seemed to have really messed things up. If I scan for base stations it says there are none broadcasting. But both lights are green and appear to be tracking. In fact I even have set to go standby when exiting Steam but they still remain green.

Tried uninstalling and reinstalling Steam VR, still same issue. Lights solid green yet in Steam Devices they do not show up at all. If I try to configure base stations it comes back and says there are none in my vicinity.

Ok not entirely sure how but seems I got it all back working proper again. I think removing Steam USB drivers and rebooting did the trick. Really not sure how I got it so messed up lol.

Good you got it working. Just wondering if I may ask - after using the Vive Pro 2 for some time, compared to the Index how is:

Fov

Panel res

Colors

Black levels

Refresh rates

Tracking (same as Index when using Knuckles and base stations?)

Sound (but I understand if you only have used earbuds)

Weight and comfort

Cable (long enough, tendency to get twisted etc.)

- and anything else I didn't ask for but you think I should have 🙂

Thanks!

Well having all new issues now with my replacement Vive Pro 2. I have about had it with this headset. Got the original in June and ran great up until a month or so ago. Now has been nothing but headaches.

Don't think I could recommend it anymore at this time.

Back to ole faithful Index for VR games and Reverb G2 for my flight sims for now.

November 24, 2021

Well the situation is not as bad as I first thought with the replacement Vive Pro 2. For some reason, with Vive Console running, Steam VR thinks my base stations are not working properly. And show yellow triangle by each one. However the lights are green on each one and I found out today playing games all day they are working just fine.

Very weird. They won't go into sleep mode though, they just stay solid green. Guess cause it thinks they are not working.

However hook up the Index, and they are recognized and sleep properly.  Very strange.

But anyway situation not as dire as I originally thought. Obviously at first I thought they would not be tracking. But they are tracking quite well. Had a blast with MechWarrior 5 Mercenaries in VR with the Vive Pro 2 all day today. Image quality is fantastic. For now at the end of the day with the Vive Pro 2 I am just unplugging the base stations so they don't run full bore all night long.

I don't know why but this strange stuff seems to happen to me lol.

Well same issue that has been plaguing me for a while is still there in this replacement VP2 as well, along with the sensor problems in addition. Without expanding on it too much I have been submitting log files to HTC and turns out they have not gotten the VP2 fully compatible with Windows 11 yet.  Hopefully they will in the near future.

So after spending all these hours troubleshooting this darn thing it is now uninstalled and have gone back to my other two headsets in the meantime.

That is kind of what I thought after checking more into it, I installed Windows 11 on Oct 5th and started posting on this issue in another forum on Oct 7th. From June until then it ran perfectly on Windows 10.

Hi there fellow gamers! Since the recent update, Windows 11 has not been compatible with the Quest 2. We know that this is an issue and are working towards new updates. Window 10 is still compatible and recommended for your device.

I never upgrade before I'm completely sure everything is supported. In fact I didn't buy the RTX 3090 before I was sure it was fully supported by Oculus.

Win11 does not exist to me before it's fully supported by Oculus and Valve. I'll probably still stick with Win10 for several years to come - unless Win11 has some very significant advantages, not sure I see any right now. I only play VR games and apps on the rig.

Isn't that what a General forum is for? I remember the old description used to say all things VR or something similar. There's already specific Oculus forums to discuss things related to Oculus products. But hey, whatever solves your disdain for non-oculus discussions.

November 27, 2021

To be honest that is kind of what I thought - there is already a Rift forum, a Quest forum, a Support forum, Games forum, etc. I figured the General forum was really for anything in general about VR that would not specifically apply to those other forums. It is nice that Oculus allows discussions of other headsets and technologies, however they want to have it listed.

This thread was made by Techy111 who is or was an official moderator in here - and if an official Oculus forum moderator thought this thread belonged under General, of course fine with me. Personally I don't care where the thread is placed - I placed the Steamdeck under Off-Topic.
