New Index stuff - but small stuff, seems we're still waiting for big stuff ;)

I have a bunch of simulations queued up and downloading to try out but I have a busy day and it'll be 10 hours before i can try them. IL-2, DCS, Project Cars 2 etc. I went to bed feeling a lot better about my Index than when I started with it.

Tracking is the best thing about it for me. I don't want to use anything else now. But the tracking is not exclusive to the index. So that's something else to wrap my head around. There's a part of me that's eyeing that pimax 8kx.

The knuckles feel a lot better now than they did when I first put them on. It's been a hard headset to get my head around because in some games it blows me away and the immersion is higher than any hmd I've used. But then other games I've actually felt more immersed in the CV1.

I think another big Pro to it is that it runs pretty great on my 1080. I can run everything at 100% and 80 Hertz and no motion smoothing kicks in. But I haven't tried anything crazy yet like Fallout 4 or DCS or X-Plane. But I might just ride the index until Nvidia gets their act together and upgrade the hmd down the road with a big GPU.

It's just kind of a stunner to me that valve would name their index after these lenses and they have a glare problem like this.

The considerable decrease in god rays is why so many people are happy with the Rift S. Doesn't bother me though personally cos I see the things every day in real life due to wearing glasses for the last 32 years.

Again you seem to support my idea of getting Index and keeping CV1, lol. And that my 1080 will work fine with the Index. I was thinking that going from CV1 ss 2.0 to Index 100% would result in a performance increase, and results from Tom's Hardware seem to support exactly that idea.

My 11 yo son wanted 5 Nights at Freddy's, and I bought it yesterday - after some thought I chose the Oculus Store version. Because it's a very dark game - and I want the best performance the next months. Unless I'm wrong about the Index, I might favor CV1 for the very dark games.

Some had problems with the smell, when they got Quest or Rift-S, and it seems Index is no different  :D

That's weird, mine didn't have much of a smell. Nothing strong like the O+ or Quest at any rate.

I fixed my sound issue by doing a clean reinstall of nvidia drivers. It's there everytime now. I bombed out and crashed and just now getting around to playing again lol. Time to see how this baby does in some sims.

Some Revive experiences using Index - from different Index users:

Oculus games through Revive finally feel right with the Index controllers, and are probably some of the better Index controller experiences right now.

Robo Recall and Vader Immortal are awesome, I haven’t tried Lone Echo yet, but am very hopeful.

Vader Immortal via Revive was a blast

Figured I'd post this in case anybody is considering this game. It was super, super cool. Any Star Wars fan owes it to themselves to play this. Worked really well on Revive, save for a little visual glitch between loading areas (I'd see a ghost of the Steam loading grid), which I chalked up to me using what's essentially a hack to play it.

Also picking up, turning on, and using a lightsaber made me feel like a kid again.

The saber dojo is also surprisingly deep for a $10 game. I'll absolutely be going back to it (and playing through the whole thing again).

It looked great in the Index, though it's a very, very dark game (I'd say too dark), so you'll get to see just how grey the Index's blacks really are. I assume the Rift S looks similar.

I did indeed have to put graphics to low to get it to play ok. It all still looked great, no complaints.

Lone Echo blew me away

I've tried it before on the OG Vive back when I had a lower-tier graphics card but for some reason never bothered to load it up when I got my Vive Pro. Today was the first time I tried the game in almost two years.

WOW! I had the render target set at 1.5 (running on a 1080 Ti), 90 Hz refresh, and the FOV maxed out. Absolutely incredible experience floating around the bridge of that ship. And the spatial audio from the speakers was so on-point. I'm definitely going to finish the game now.

The Index is growing on me big time. It's not a revolutionary product, but the incremental improvements start to sink in after a few uses.

Beware of some potential controller problems - hard to say how many are affected:

SMH. Can't anyone put out a headset without major problems? Fortunately I seem to have dodged this bullet but that's just unbelievable when you think how many re-iterations the controller has gone through. Of course, it's likely a problem with whoever they bought the hardware from for the joysticks but the fact that QA didn't catch it isn't good. Oh well, Valve is about to lose some money on RMA's lol.
