CV1 has had flawless stability on my system ever since I bought it in 2017 (when Lone Echo arrived) - never experienced a single serious issue. Of course stability should be part of the pros and cons - not much fun driving a Ferrari if the engine constantly breaks down. With that said if haven't had any issues using SteamVR on my CV1, apart from SteamVR using a more clumsy and convoluted design than Oculus Home (and especially my beloved now dead Oculus Classic Home).

I'll try - I went through a lot of Reddit posts as fast as I could - I hope readers can see that whenever there's a title written in a very large font, it's from Reddit - and I try to provide a link to the source material at the end.

Index review from an owner of several HMD's

Conclusion: Due to the poor lenses, the Index is only worth it if you are a VR enthusiast who is upgrading from an original Rift or Vive. If you already own an Odyssey+, or a Vive Pro with Gear VR lens mod, then the index is a step down visually. If framerate and field of view are your primary concerns, then the Index might be for you. For me, the Vive Pro with modded lenses is currently the paramount consumer VR experience as far as visuals are concerned. Index definitely wins when it comes to audio though. Please someone come out with a smooth lens that will work with the Index so I can have all the good new Index things without the glaring smear across my lenses.

Oh yeah, the controllers are wonderful.

I just got out of shadow legend and my O+ never looked as good as Index does in there. I was pretty impressed. As I mentioned a few posts ago,, if you back the eye relief off you get some less glare. I probably gave up a couple % of FoV but since I have done that I am enjoying it more. I still see the glare but it's not as distracting to me. It's unfortunate this problem exists.

I still have mixed feelings about the HMD of the Index but the rest of the system is great. I readjusted my hands and haven't had a problem with the finger tracking since. I do have one issue where a few times I loaded SteamVR and the Index sound isn't loading in windows. Doesn't show up as an option. I disconnected and reconnected the break away cable and then I could select it. I'm likely going to keep the Index but I'm pretty disappointed with the glare.

After seeing all of @RuneSR2 reviews I've decided to buy another Rift CV1 of ebay :p
Joking aside - We are 3 years on from the first generation VR headsets and yet the second ones seem to have more problems.
Right now all I want is a VR headset that just works and looks good. Just give us a Rift CV1 with higher resolution displays and Oculus Rift S lenses. How hard can it be to produce a headset like that? Well all you do is just take the displays out of CV1, swap them for higher resolution displays and change the lenses to that of Rift S, job done.

And a negative review:

Ear Speakers

They sound great for atmosphere games, BUT if you are used to using headphones it’s not going to do it for you, not in the slightest. I like the idea of not having headphones that will eventually get your ears tired. They are NOT as bassy as people described, so if you like bass, it ain’t going to happen.

This guy is what the HiFi Headphone community would call a "bass head". Meaning he is used to closed over ear 'DJ/gaming' type headphones specifically made to make as much bass as possible. The results are great for people who are into that, but it is not a natural or technically 'correct' sound stage in any way, shape or fashion. And as such no type of open headphone system, including $$$$ reference headphones are going to sound 'good' from his perspective.
