Here's mine...

I'm a huge fan of The Metal but I think I'll start with some of my legendary, less angry, favorites.

Probably my favorite band of all time across all genres is Primus. I've seen them live twice, and I've seen Les Claypool live in his solo act once.

It all started with "Jerry was a Race car driver"

For those who don't know Les, fun fact: he once audition for Metallica and they denied him based solely on the fact that he is far too damn good for them.

I've seen tons of bands live (Slayer, Megadeth, Sepultura, Napalm Death, Cannibal Corpse, Korn, System of a Down, Pantera, Slipknot, Lamb of God - to name a few). But Primus is the band that showed me first hand the largest mosh pit I've ever seen, and it was to this mighty cute song:

A few thousand people went ape shit at the 1:37 mark.

I hold in high regard just about everything Claypool releases; if I had to pick a favorite song it is simply, Here Come The Bastards

That's a great song - I love the 60s, it is my favourite decade of music. Especially starting around '65 with albums like Highway 61 Revisited and onward the albums are just insane - Strange Days, Electric Ladyland, Forever Changes, Music From the Big Pink, Abbey Road, etc. etc.

Anyone else think that intro sounded like "Layla" on a keyboard?  :D

Here's another artist I really enjoyed in the 70's:

Wouldn't surprise me considering that Music From the Big Pink played a pivotal part in the breakup of Cream and the direction began to take throughout the 70s. He even went to Woodstock in the mid sixties to ask if he could join The Band but ultimately wasn't able to bring himself to ask.

Here he is playing with The Band at The Last Waltz - him and Robbie even trade solos.

Peter Gabriel is the first performer I can remember being a fan of (long time ago).

Youtube just recommended I watch Feeling For You by Cassius. Hell yeah.

Forget the current Marvel and DC plans, this is the super hero movie we need!
Fighting bad DJs and evil record labels.
(just ignore the fact that his look is a direct ripoff of DC's Deadman).

Although my favourite Cassius song is The Sound of Violence. The video is awesome.

It would make one hell of a VR ride. :)

And here's a quick comedic turn,

Introducing your friends to "Deathcore"

Here's the full song from that clip:

I have become addicted to reading YouTube comments underneath hardcore/death style songs. People are hilarious.

For example, comments to this song:
  • OMG this hits me harder than my father !!!
  • My neighbors love this song so much they threw a brick at my window so they can hear better.
  • This is dirtier than 20 nuns simultaneously doing power squats in a cucumber field
  • What happened at 0:57 I see lyrics on the screen but all I hear is roo roo roo raa roo roo raa roo ree ree.

I actually thought he got better with age. One of those who is every bit as good - and imho sometimes better - live as in the studio. I got to see him live in the encores as a guest at David Gilmour's On An Island tour - he was awesome on the Floyd tunes, Comfy Numb and Arnold Layne.

I agree - I have his whole discography, and I love his last few albums in particular. I mean the big one is Black Star - which is probably my favourite record of the last decade. But I loved Reality - his cover of Pablo Picasso is just perfect. But Station to Station, Low (the whole Berlin trilogy in fact), and even his 90s industrial stuff like Earthling are just great art rock albums.

Super envious you got to see that concert - I am not one to really spend on big music events (though I have seen The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Paul Simon (with Sting), The Tragically Hip, Dave Mathews Band, Buddy Guy and BB King - literally all the big concerts I have been too in the past 20 years) - but both David Bowie and Tom Petty were on my list of I have to see them. I thought for sure after Bowie released The Next Day I might get a chance, and I figured I had plenty of time for Tom Petty.

I am still really sad of their passing - Tom Petty I think a little more because I feel like with his last album Black Star, David Bowie gave some closure to his fans. I felt like he got to say so long and he delivered it with all the tact and good humour that only he was really capable of portraying.

With Tom Petty it was sudden and surprising, and his music has been such a big part of the background of my life that it is hard to accept.
