Question

The Official Comic Book Thread

What are your favourite superheroes? What are your favourite graphic novels?

For me I'd have to say The Punisher is my favourite because he's a complete headcase lol :D

And the Daredevil comes a VERY close second because I'm a United fan :p

Comic books that need to be consigned to the nearest landfill have to be the godawful The Children Of The Atom and even worse the New Warriors.

Children Of The Atom trailer.

New Warriors trailer.

I'm still not sure if that New Warriors is a real thing or an early April Fool's joke lmfao :D The characters are fucking TERRIBLE, their 'powers' are even WORSE.

And all of this is happening at a time when comic book shops are going out of business. I just can't see the sense in releasing a bunch of politically correct VERY poorly devised characters at a time when the industry is about to collapse. Stan Lee will be spinning in his grave these last few weeks. It's pure insanity.

Not sure if DC have also started doing this sort of nonsense but if they have the comic book industry is fucking d00med  :o :D

Thankfully we're still getting some decent stuff crowdfunded so all is not completely lost.

    Btw, suddenly ....

Meaning some prices just kinda exploded - like:

    - and the extreme price jump is confirmed on Ebay, like:

This is a very new book - normally close to worthless junk.

Anyone knows why Miles Morales Spidey books suddenly jumped so much in price?

I mean this is even beyond RTX 3090 prices! :o  Can't see a new movie happening for some time... Thus quite a mystery to me.

And of course annoying that I didn't buy a lot of these books in ultra-high-grade just 1 year ago  :D

So most of these probably arent worth anything but I just looked through my old collection that was in a box in the closet.
any sticker seen is on the bag

    Transformers from their first run.

I remember as a teen folks wanting this one because of the cover art.

    Bunch of Image comics.

And of course the death and return of superman.
Dunno why but I have the Wizard comics tribute edition in wrapper with the card for some reason.

Ah, after 1242 days I succeeded in uniting another Father and Son - that's 3 years and 4 months, of course it's such a touching reunion it's hard not to get my eyes wet :D

Maybe a silly hobby trying to find the matching 9.8 book - but I'm having great fun trying to find needles in the haystacks, lol - have been lucky before - but still need to find many more - often the CGC 9.8 book is as rare as the cover ;)

The best explanation I was offered by some CGC comic nerd* *cough* enthusiasts was that maybe the new Miles Morals PS5 game increased the interest in the comic books. Not sure that's true, there also a new movie coming up in 2022 I think - the game does look nice though:

Same devs made Stormland, I still have a hard time coping with that loss  :'(

I just love to burn money - another $225 for a book I don't care much about - but last one sold for like $250, so I guess I got some $$$ reduction, lol. But just got this one:

    - bought the original art cover in 2016, and it took me more than 4 years to find the book in 9.8. There are only 5 of these books in 9.8 right now.

    - and like I told the wife, I really needed it for my Best of Both Worlds collection  o:)

Maybe I now have a chance to win a prize for the best Custom collection this summer ... maybe ... sigh ...

Btw, art is not same size as book:

The older I get, the more I try to stay away from traditional superhero comics. I found really good stories and characters in comics like The Chrononauts, and found classics in graphic novels about post-apocalyptic survival.

I also began researching older stories from my youth, such as The Original Squadron of the Supreme (Marvel), where a bunch of ripped off characters (based on the Justice League) took control of their world after a period when the Eternal enslaved the minds. all world leaders. They go into a difficult story where they literally became the bad guys and had to be stopped by a group of bad guys. It got no preaching and ran for a solid 12 problems in the 80s. This will remind you of the guards to a lesser extent. It will also give you some backstory about Hyperion, the archetype of Superman who is ultimately the only survivor in this universe.

I'm interested in stories, characters and settings. If the protagonists have a legitimate problem that intertwines the human condition, then this is my comic. If this is just paraphrased, the hero will save the world, then I will leave. The art of storytelling is a lost art form.

My suggestion is to pick a bunch of comics from the dollar basket and see what excites you.

Slightly puzzling to see this quite new cover already reach $23,000 (still 15 days left, price could go anywhere but down, lol) - would have liked to own it, but not for that price:

I guess the price is high because it's the first full-figure Silk cover, I need to read more about Silk, lol

"Silk has been a very popular addition to the Spider-Man mythos over the past seven years, starring in multiple solo series and team books. Sony is planning to do a live-action Silk movie as part of their Spider-Man universe of films. Silk will also appear in the sequel to the Oscar-winning animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. There has also been discussion of a live-action Silk TV series. Also of note is the fact that Cindy Moon has already played a small role in two Marvel Cinematic Universe films as a classmate of Peter Parker, Spider-Man: Homecoming and Avengers: Infinity War (the scene on the bus early in the film).

Otherwise the cover may nicely symbolize how many marriages turn out
    :D

    To do list:

I do hope the Silk movie will be extremely much better than this ...

There's also Amazing Fantasy #15 (the true first Spidey book = first appearance of Spider-Man) coming up in 8 days - it's only 9.0, but already the minimum price is about $500,000 :o - could be a world-record price coming up next week. Even if it's only 9.0, it's part of the Curator Pedigree - and the book does look absolutely stunning for a 9.0:

Guess you could buy at least 250 RTX 3090 cards instead, but given the choice personally I'd go for the book too, it takes up much less space ;) - and might be worth a lot more than 250 RTX 3090 cards in 10 or 20 years ;) The take home message, don't spend all your money on gpus when you can get books instead  :D

    Get the book here :)
