Question

The Official Comic Book Thread

What are your favourite superheroes? What are your favourite graphic novels?

For me I'd have to say The Punisher is my favourite because he's a complete headcase lol :D

And the Daredevil comes a VERY close second because I'm a United fan :p

Comic books that need to be consigned to the nearest landfill have to be the godawful The Children Of The Atom and even worse the New Warriors.

Children Of The Atom trailer.

https://youtu.be/5PCWUCv1rnU

New Warriors trailer.

I'm still not sure if that New Warriors is a real thing or an early April Fool's joke lmfao :D The characters are fucking TERRIBLE, their 'powers' are even WORSE.

And all of this is happening at a time when comic book shops are going out of business. I just can't see the sense in releasing a bunch of politically correct VERY poorly devised characters at a time when the industry is about to collapse. Stan Lee will be spinning in his grave these last few weeks. It's pure insanity.

Not sure if DC have also started doing this sort of nonsense but if they have the comic book industry is fucking d00med  :o :D

Thankfully we're still getting some decent stuff crowdfunded so all is not completely lost.

Seems Netflix just bought the Conan rights, and will make a new Conan TV show - but Witcher on Netflix was nice, and I have high hopes for Conan. That said, I just bought a new Conan mag 😎

Now, it may not look like much, but today it's the single highest graded Savage Sword of Conan #11 in the world:

    - and such a mag secures my limited Barbarian Throne for some time, lol:

    - and as a teenager, can't say I didn't find these mags ... stimulating ... 😁

Won this last week - sniped it about 3:00 AM with my phone 😴 - But sniping might secure that some dude doesn't have time to increase the price 1k or so - these books don't grow on trees. During the last 20 years, HA.com only sold 3 books in grade 9.6 or better:

Maybe not Romita's best cover - and could have gotten another RTX 3090 for the price, lol - but I guess this will be worth more in 10 years... Right now there are only 23 copies in 9.6 and 8 in 9.8:

Might buy some original comic art next week, if I'm lucky 🤞

Fun thing, Monday my books shipped from Maine with expected delivery one week later:

    - but Fedex was really fast, and yesterday was my Birthday - and this happened, what are the odds? 🤔 🤗 😀

This best presents are those you buy for yourself 😂

Maybe it does not look like much, but that Spidey book is worth more than 2 or 3 Indices 😉 Fun thing is to track you books - this exact Spidey book was sold on HA in 2007 for $ 2,151.00:

My VR hobby is by far the cheap one - even a RTX 3090 does not cost much compared to books or art, sigh.

Btw, some dude already contacted me and wanted to buy my new Venom cover - but what kind of father would sell a kid 😉 😇

Maybe not my brightest idea ever going for a Venom cover when this trailer has just been released, lol:

My 9-year-old son would like the Venom #154 cover - but the price did rise quite a lot the last moments - it lay dormant at $650 for a few weeks - and then the usual development happened 🙄

Fortunately I won the piece, but with $100 for FexEx shipping and Customs this will be much the same as buying another RTX 3090, sigh. It's the original art cover for this book, maybe not really Van Gogh, but I did love the kinda impressionistic style:

    - that's just the final cover for the book, the one of a kind original art cover is this piece:

Maybe not a good piece for my 9-year-old son's bedroom, but I'll get it framed behind Museum Glass and find a place 🙂

    - And now I'll order and start reading some Venom books! Starting with #154 😇

Bought a new book and read it 😇

    - then bought a TPB, but have not read that one yet ...

I mostly bought the TPB because it has such a nice cover inside 😁

Then got a big box, books to show size:

The package containing the one of a kind original cover art - yup, could buy close to 1,000 copies of the Venom #154 comic book for the price of this cover (or another RTX 3090 from the scalpers). Just the international FedEx shipping & Customs cost much the same as a Quest 2 64GB, lol:

Only the dude in the framing shop gets to take the piece out of the protective bag 😉

Some close-ups, the piece has tons of details hard to see unless you see the real thing:

Ink feels like dripping from this piece, but hard to capture:

Really love this piece, can't wait to see it framed!

Hmmm, noticed something strange, see the red and green circles, I'll explain below:

The green circle contains the artist's signature, but the red circle looks to be Stan Lee's signature? Here's a verified example of Lee's sig:

It's not mentioned in the description of the Venom #154 cover art when the auction was held. Clearly the sig in the red circle is not part of the published piece, but the artist's sig is:

I've asked the seller for help, interesting what the answer will be... If the piece is signed by Stan Lee, of course this will further add to its value.

I'm not good at beating around the bush, so I contacted Sandoval directly - the artist who drew the cover - and he confirmed that the cover was signed by Stan Lee in early 2018. Note that Stan Lee died in November 2018 due to a sudden heart attack. Thus my sig is one of the lasts signatures made by Lee (but of course not the only one he made in 2018).

I do have many comic books with sigs, but for some reason I just never got one with Lee's sig - so this is my first sig from Lee - I think 🤔 😁

    - and Stan Lee's cameo in the Venom movie from 2018 (Venom was release October 5 2018, so Lee probably did see it):

I'm on a roll 😁 Got another 9.8 book 🤓 Only took 5 years to find a 9.8 copy, but there are only 4 copies in 9.8 right now:

I do own the original art cover - and of course there's only 1 in the world:

    - maybe I should get one of those mass produced premium Giclee prints too 🤔 😂

Another month, another book - just bought this one

From January 1966. First Spidey cover showing aunt May. Currently there are only 5 of these books in 9.8, and 30 in 9.6 - and with undeteriorated pure white pages this is the finest 9.6 you can get. Several of the other ASM #32 CGC 9.6 books have more deteriorated page quality (like off-white-to-white, off-white etc). For now my guess would be that this book is among the 20 best ASM #32 books known today.

Funny, I often hear this song in my mind when buying an old ultra-high-grade ASM book:

    - but instead of "Spider-Man is having me for dinner tonight", Spider-Man is feasting on my wallet 😬

This book did cost more than my RTX 3090 card.

Btw, Spider-Man #1 to #38 were all drawn by Ditko, before he and Stan had a controversy and parted their ways. Ditko may have been the one to truly develop Spidey, and for those who want to know more about Ditko, this may be an informative video to watch:

Just got the piece frame behind Museum Glass - more than 90 % uv protection.

Most may like Art Day best (the day you get the art), but I think I like Frame Day best (the day you get the framed art).

Tomorrow history might be made - I think we might see a new world record for the most expensive comic book. Earlier this one sold for $3.25 million:

    https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-56669924

    - but right now this first Spidey in 9.6 (highest quality found so far) has hit $2.8 million, and the live auction has not even begun yet 😮 Note that the bid right now is $2.82 million with Buyer's Premium - so that's the full price. I think it will pass $3 million tomorrow...

    - And breaking news - for the first time ever, Spidey defeated Superman! 😮

This is now the most expensive comic book ever sold:

Unfortunately my local comic shop was all out of Amazing Fantasy #15 9.6, so had to get Amazing SpiderMan #32 instead 😂 It arrived a few weeks ago - but had a safe journey:

The book looks great (it's 55 years old) - better colors than I anticipated, looks very fresh and mint(y). Here comes the microscope...
