Question

The Official Films Thread

Well bollocks, we've got a telly thread so I thought I'd create one for films too.

I'm currently working my way through Movies With A Twist Collection 3 which I downloaded years ago from TPB. All of those torrents are now dead which is a shame because I didn't get around to downloading Collection 4. I'm downloading all of those separately which is a hassle but will be worth it in the end going by 1-3 so far.

Am in the middle of watching Law Abiding Citizen, I think I've seen it before but i was so long ago I've forgotten what happens.

The problem with watching these films knowing that there's a twist makes it easy to work out what the twist in question is so probably better if you watch them without that knowledge lol

Here's a list of some of my all-time favourite films of all-time in no particular order:

Brazil
The Life Of Brian
The Holy Grail
The Meaning Of Life
Star Wars
The Empire Strikes Back
Lifeforce (a terrible film but the female lead vampire spends most of it naked lol)
All Lethal Weapons
All Die Hards
Every Dirty Harry Film
The Jungle Book (the Disney original)
Pi
Falling Down (just for the McDonalds scene lmfao)
Silent Running
Logan's Run
All 60s-70s Planet Of The Apes
Soylent Green

Am going to stop there otherwise this post is going to be HUGE lol

Really looking forward for a Hollywood production to get into VR movies, maybe something like Netflix could be the pioneer there ?

Told the sons we're going to watch a fish film this weekend, and they weren't exactly thrilled  >:) I hope they will be pleasantly surprised  o:)

"For its 45th anniversary, Universal brings Jaws to the UHD format with a practically impeccable 2160p/Dolby Vision UHD presentation. In the early minutes beyond the campfire scene the picture demonstrates superb command of its elements, the first of many notable scenes of practically reference quality. Grain is fine, accentuating the native filmic roots and bolstering the sense of cinematic texturing that sweeps through the shots with resplendent accuracy. Throughout, the picture proves to be very dynamic. There are many examples of notable, superb textures that stand apart at this resolution, notably period attire: light jackets, heavier sports coats, even a thin veil worn by a grieving mother. There's a tangible increase in sharpness and clarity across the board when comparing to the previously issued, and still perfectly workable, Blu-ray, but the UHD brings out the absolute best the original elements have to offer. Many of the weathered accents around the beaches and piers are tack-sharp and tactile and details both interior and exterior around town gain appreciable boosts to sharpness and clarity, even at distance, obvious in comparison but even plain to see when simply watching the UHD straight through. Skin textures and hairs are unsurprisingly some of the most obvious beneficiaries of the resolution increase and clarity gains. What a vivid, flowing, and fine film-like experience."

My expectations are sky-high right now, lol

Have just decided to start to watch some 3D films. Started off with How To Train Your Dragon which was awesome!

Next up is Avatar later on tonight I reckon. Can't believe it's taken me so long to get around to watching some of these films given that I've had a VR headset for nearly four years. :o

Just watched this movie - while it was a nice (and somewhat fun and surprising) movie, it did not really touch me, never got close to tears nor felt great excitement - compared with many other IMDB 8+ movies. Parasite wasn't 8.5 in my book (current IMDB rating is 8.5). It wasn't a bad movie, I might rate it 7.0, but probably not higher.

Of course hard to go beyond a 7+ rating with no spaceships in the movie, and the budget being less than $100 mill, lol.

Btw, I'm considering giving The Mist a 9/10 or even a 10/10 rating though, because that movie moved me on several levels - unfortunately now I feel somewhat guilty for showing the movie to my 12 and 16 year old sons, but I completely forgot about the extremely gruesome ending  :( - it's really a 18+ movie in my opinion.

Don't worry about it too much. It'll put hairs on their chests. :D

Btw, there was a scene, where Mr. Park (the rich dude in the movie) was being picked up at work, and he was getting an introduction to VR headsets. I think he was holding the CV1 - and someone said to him that he could not use a phone for that headset but needed something much more powerful, namely a pc. I'd add a half point to the movie's rating for that awesome scene  o:)
