Question

The Official Films Thread

Well bollocks, we've got a telly thread so I thought I'd create one for films too.

I'm currently working my way through Movies With A Twist Collection 3 which I downloaded years ago from TPB. All of those torrents are now dead which is a shame because I didn't get around to downloading Collection 4. I'm downloading all of those separately which is a hassle but will be worth it in the end going by 1-3 so far.

Am in the middle of watching Law Abiding Citizen, I think I've seen it before but i was so long ago I've forgotten what happens.

The problem with watching these films knowing that there's a twist makes it easy to work out what the twist in question is so probably better if you watch them without that knowledge lol

Here's a list of some of my all-time favourite films of all-time in no particular order:

Brazil
The Life Of Brian
The Holy Grail
The Meaning Of Life
Star Wars
The Empire Strikes Back
Lifeforce (a terrible film but the female lead vampire spends most of it naked lol)
All Lethal Weapons
All Die Hards
Every Dirty Harry Film
The Jungle Book (the Disney original)
Pi
Falling Down (just for the McDonalds scene lmfao)
Silent Running
Logan's Run
All 60s-70s Planet Of The Apes
Soylent Green

Am going to stop there otherwise this post is going to be HUGE lol

Didn't get around to watching Avatar yet but watched Ghostbusters 2016 3D and Journey To The Center Of The Earth 3D.

The former was shite. A few laugh out loud moments here and there but nowhere near as good as the other two films. Loved the cameos though. And the 3D quality was shite as well, I'm guessing it wasn't made for 3D, perhaps?

Journey To The Center Of The Earth 3D was MUCH better. Great fun to watch and LOADS of stuff either popping out or floating out of the screen, one of which nearly had me filling my trousers -

When the first fish started attacking ???

    I'll stick to the original.
    :)

If you want a really unique experience, try the classic 1973 movie Fantastic Planet.
Although animated, probably best to not show to kids unless you want to mess them up. Just the bizarre visuals alone would probably cause nightmares.
It's a better movie about humans interacting with tall blue aliens than Avatar. :)

Hey now.  GB2016 was an EXCELLENT movie.  Lot of laughs.

Journey to the Center of the Earth series is excellent in all regards and is far better than the original IMHO.  You just cannot go wrong with Dwayne Johnson/Brandon Fraser.

Well, except spelling their names it seems. Brendan Fraser. :)

Ghostbusters 2016 was godawful compared to the first two. And they made it as if the first two films never existed too. Would have been better if they had made it so that they're all the kids of the other characters in the film I think.

We watched Ghostbusters 2016 not long ago - but this is a 3D movie if there ever was one. We saw it on the 3D plasma - and expecting the worst from the low IMDB rating, all family was pleasantly surprised. My 10 year old son jumped like 1 meter in the air when the ghost vomited (niiiiiiiiice pop-out effect  :D ) My wife loved it - maybe it's a girl movie (Ghostbusters are now ... women... thus we hairy neanderthal-like cave-dwelling men might not get all the jokes, just saying)...
Might not be the best 3D movie ever, but maybe on the top 10. Loved seeing Thor in the movie or whatever he's called, lol. So "3D or no-see" (just made that saying up  o:) )

Disclosure: I did tranquilize my frontal lobes with red wine before and during the movie

Personally I found it sexist :D

Like I said it did have some laugh out loud moments here and there but it was nowhere near as good as the first two. I thought that some of the 3D was pretty good, like the vomitting ectoplasm but there were WAY too many moments where you had that everything-is-on-three-flat-planes-and-not-looking-like-proper-3D look.

I guess I was expecting too much after the awesomeness of the first two films. It didn't come anywhere near being able to measure up to those two.

The biggest problem for me was that the director seemed to think the best comedy comes from people just ad libbing non stop.

I didn't find it funny, but I did like the creepiness of the mannequin bit.

That's what the next movie is doing (by the son of the director of the first 2). It's about Egon's grand kids discovering the old tech and learning to use it.
