Question

The Official Films Thread

Well bollocks, we've got a telly thread so I thought I'd create one for films too.

I'm currently working my way through Movies With A Twist Collection 3 which I downloaded years ago from TPB. All of those torrents are now dead which is a shame because I didn't get around to downloading Collection 4. I'm downloading all of those separately which is a hassle but will be worth it in the end going by 1-3 so far.

Am in the middle of watching Law Abiding Citizen, I think I've seen it before but i was so long ago I've forgotten what happens.

The problem with watching these films knowing that there's a twist makes it easy to work out what the twist in question is so probably better if you watch them without that knowledge lol

Here's a list of some of my all-time favourite films of all-time in no particular order:

Brazil
The Life Of Brian
The Holy Grail
The Meaning Of Life
Star Wars
The Empire Strikes Back
Lifeforce (a terrible film but the female lead vampire spends most of it naked lol)
All Lethal Weapons
All Die Hards
Every Dirty Harry Film
The Jungle Book (the Disney original)
Pi
Falling Down (just for the McDonalds scene lmfao)
Silent Running
Logan's Run
All 60s-70s Planet Of The Apes
Soylent Green

Am going to stop there otherwise this post is going to be HUGE lol

Well to each their own but regardless I enjoyed it.  That is all that matters to me.

Looking forward to the new one.

Well that's a bit better but I'm sure that the kids will annoy the hell out of me lol ?

Think it might be the case of if you had the two films meeting at a party, getting drunk and having wild rampant drunken filthy sex and one of them had a baby you'd probably have the perfect third sequel of the first two films lol ?

Finally got around to watching Avatar and have realised that it's responsible for killing off 3D films :D

Basically it was too good and NOTHING released since was anywhere near as good.

Just watched Gremlins 1 and 2 for the first time.  They are wonderfully comedic!!!!!  A fine example of when movies were entertaining and not like the crap they make these days.  They are not horror at all.  They are COMEDY!

I like watching the Laurel and Hardy movies for comedy. I also like some of the Gene Wilder comedy films and think it's their expressions that make me laugh most. I just find comedy films these days not that funny. I liked Ace Ventura pet detective, but struggled to find anything really funny since then. Maybe it's because I stopped watching comedy films a while ago now because I thought they started to get so unfunny.
The worst part is when I watched comedies with my mates and they picked up things from the films and would repeat them thinking they were funny.

Just bought a collection of Laurel and Hardy movies (6 "Best Of" movies on blu-ray) - found out my kids had no idea who Laurel and Hardy were - seems no-one watches black and white movies anymore. Can't have kids growing up who don't know Laurel and Hardy. Maybe they can do without Chaplin... Hmmmm.... ;)

Quite funny watching Laurel and Hardy on the 100 Hz (full motion flow compensation) 85" upscaled from 2K to 4K - looked really real, lol - never seen Laurel and Hardy look so lifelike before!

Since having a child I barely get to watch any films these days so am way behind.
Over the last few weeks I have dusted off the 3D glasses and watched blade runner 2049 and Jurassic World (2015)
Am sure anyone remotely interested has seen these by now so I doubt I have any insights into the films that you don't already know.

It was nice to actually use the TV for what it shines at and reminded me why I paid  a huge amount of cash for it in 2013 (99% of the time it just has cbeebies and other such crap on it , which is hardly the point for a set which RRPed at £4k when it came out!)

1 thing I will say tho about bladerunner. Whilst I know the timeline is somewhat fixed due to the 1st film being made in 1982 (or the book in 1968) the millennium must have seemed a life time away then....... But even so, that film being set in 2049 looks as unfeasible now as having a lunar base in 1999.
The original blade runner was set in 2019!

I wish 3dtv had not died. The tech was just about getting viable for passive 3d to be decent as it died on its ass. (My set is 1080p and at that Res active is really the only choice. Passive is better because the glasses are cheap and light and no batteries but halved the resolution.   Rubbish at 1080p but no problem at 4k
Fiat Coupe, gone. 350Z gone. Dirty nappies, no sleep & practical transport incoming. Thank goodness for VR :)
