Question

The Official Films Thread

Well bollocks, we've got a telly thread so I thought I'd create one for films too.

I'm currently working my way through Movies With A Twist Collection 3 which I downloaded years ago from TPB. All of those torrents are now dead which is a shame because I didn't get around to downloading Collection 4. I'm downloading all of those separately which is a hassle but will be worth it in the end going by 1-3 so far.

Am in the middle of watching Law Abiding Citizen, I think I've seen it before but i was so long ago I've forgotten what happens.

The problem with watching these films knowing that there's a twist makes it easy to work out what the twist in question is so probably better if you watch them without that knowledge lol

Here's a list of some of my all-time favourite films of all-time in no particular order:

Brazil
The Life Of Brian
The Holy Grail
The Meaning Of Life
Star Wars
The Empire Strikes Back
Lifeforce (a terrible film but the female lead vampire spends most of it naked lol)
All Lethal Weapons
All Die Hards
Every Dirty Harry Film
The Jungle Book (the Disney original)
Pi
Falling Down (just for the McDonalds scene lmfao)
Silent Running
Logan's Run
All 60s-70s Planet Of The Apes
Soylent Green

Am going to stop there otherwise this post is going to be HUGE lol

Admitted that Terminator movie wasn't good  :# Probably like 4/10 in my book - felt like a continuation of Terminator 2 that should not have happened. But it was fun to see Arnold again - although this felt like a goodbye, like the last Rambo movie. I guess my favorite Terminator movies are number 1 and 4 (Salvation), never liked the idea of liquid robots as in Terminator 2 (and Arnold being a good guy etc). Terminator 4 has the most awesome effects and robots, and I like the story.

    - Btw, just as I thought I could not sink any lower, I gave in and just bought this collection

Yes, it was dirt cheap - $45 - and I thought that this could work like a 6 episodes Netflix show, where each episode has the same budget as an entire season of a similar Netflix zombie show  :D

The final argument is that the video and sound quality is reference, like:

Might get back to Saints & Sinners soon...  B)

    Party on dudes..... again?
wow.... Bill and Ted is getting a new film.

now, i am probably not their target audience as i thought the other 2 were passable but that is it....

but i just dont see how it will work with guys in their 50s........

Some films i think can work doing a new one x number of years
on.......... but they need to evolve and i just dont see how bill and
    ted will

Now something for me much more positive...........  the new ghostbuster film coming ........... well if its
not delayed again ,  march this year... that looks like a 3rd film i can
get interested in (i am pretending the "other" ghostbusters never
existed... just like this film does apparently.)
I think i am looking forward to this film more than any i can think off at the moment..... thus breaking my personal rule and likely to end in disappointment.

Err... you mean the one that came out 5 months ago?

Yeah, Ghostbusters Afterlife looks very cool. I'm looking forward to it.

Which is fair, since the 2016 movie pretended the first 2 never existed.

Until you said "the other 2" I thought you might be referring to new info about the rumored 4th movie that is probably going to be focused on their kids (if it ever gets made).

Christ that third Ghostbusters film was GODAWFUL ?

I mean, if you're going to do a threeqel to a film like that you should at least make an effort with it.

Gender-swapping is one of the most unimaginative and lazy bits of writing that someone can do. And then of course you have to tick other boxes these days with the obligatory different gender preference, race etc etc etc.

But even having an all female cast could have been good if they either didn't have so much improvisation and wrote some decent humour into it or had the same amount of improvisation but just employed better actresses to do it.

It got bonus points from me cos I saw it in 3D but the actual film itself was bloody terrible, especially when you compare it to the first two.

I wish that the entertainment industry and the rest of the world in general would just STOP with Wokeness and Virtue Signalling.

Sure, if a storyline has involvement of a female as a genuine part of the storyline and it makes sense for her to be a lesbian, for example, then that's great. But having obligatory diverse characters in EVERYTHING just gets a bit meh.

I'm all about being more inclusive, don't get me wrong, but the last three Star Wars films, the last two Doctor Who series and Batwoman are three examples of diversity completely ruining entertainment.

Batwoman could have been a FANTASTIC series if it had better writing rather than diverse character after diverse character. The white actress that played Batwoman, who happened to be a lesbian, in the first series quit, so what did they do? They classed a black actress to play Batwoman who, guess what? She's a lesbian too.

I'm VERY tempted to write a couple of screenplays and send them to the BBC so that they can fix Doctor Who.

Just throw the Jodie Whittaker episodes on the scrapheap and forget that they ever existed. Then, with my first screenplay, start again from the regeneration of Capaldi (and have the 13th regeneration being a man, because it's the only thing that makes sense to canon).

The second screenplay will be of a new spinoff series, Icemaiden. If any of you are Doctor Who nerds like me you'll know that this series will have Romana as the lead character (Icemaiden is her nickname behind her back). This spinoff series will take the ideas that Chibnall had that made sense to Canon.

Romana is the Timeless Child and the origin story of the Time Lords. She'll be the child that was found and tortured and killed over and over to find the secret of regeneration. THAT would explain why she's as nutty as a fruitcake and how she can regenerate at will.

That would keep Doctor Who fans happy because you'd have things left as they were and you'll be bringing back a fan favourite from the past. It would keep the lefty Woke brigade happy at the BBC because you'd have a new series with a female lead (not sure who I'd have playing Romana but I'd be happy with a black actress playing the part myself).

Have Icemaiden as dark as Torchwood was and have it on later at night and you'll have a hit.

I'm due to watch all of the Doctor Who episodes again right from the beginning, I do it every few years or so, so I might do a bit of research before I start writing anything.

Ghostbusters 2016 was both badly written and unwritten (since so much was improv). Way too much back and forth to drag a joke out too long.

I'm not a fan of any of the modern doctor who. Especially when they changed the doctor from a wandering meddler into a demi god.
A Romana series would be great. They could even bring back Lalla Ward, she's only 7 years older than Capaldi and was doing voice acting as Romana 4 years ago. Or at least have the series start with her then regenerate to a younger one (maybe even in the first episode).
Imagine a series based on the Tom Baker era companions of Romana, Nyssa and Leela.
Louise Jameson (Leela) is still cool:

Ok, I get it now - how there could be made 6 of these mediocre movies, which I'm still going to watch  o:)

Despite a negative reaction from critics, the live-action film series has made over $1 billion worldwide.[40] They are, to date, the only video game adaptations to increase the amount of money made with each successive film.[41] The series holds the record for the "Most Live-Action Film Adaptations of a Video Game" in the 2012 Guinness World Records Gamer's Edition, which also described it as "the most successful movie series to be based on a video game."[13

    - but I'll definitely need to tranquilize my frontal lobes before watching, just got some help in a box, 4.3/5 on Vivino after more than 3,000 ratings so I hope it's effective  B)

Btw, now I've seen the first 4 Resident Evil films, some have been a bit of a chore, but it's not all bad.

Sony has made sure the 4K quality is top-notch, so even if you do not like the story, you can always enjoy Jovovich's skin detail  She does have the record of being the highest paid model ever ;)
The Atmos sound is great too.

For now I'll probably rate them:

    Resident Evil (2002) 5/10
    Resident Evil Apocalypse (2004) 6/10
    Resident Evil Extinction (2007) 4/10
    Resident Evil Afterlife (2010) 8/10

I was expecting the worst, but Afterlife greatly impressed me, and even the wife loved it. Or maybe we're just habituating to the show, lol. Afterlife seems to have found the right pace, and the boss fight was awesome. I do hope the last two movies can deliver just some of the great story quality seen in Afterlife...

Uh-oh, just realized Afterlife is in 3D, now I may have to buy it again!  :D
