Question

The Official Films Thread

Well bollocks, we've got a telly thread so I thought I'd create one for films too.

I'm currently working my way through Movies With A Twist Collection 3 which I downloaded years ago from TPB. All of those torrents are now dead which is a shame because I didn't get around to downloading Collection 4. I'm downloading all of those separately which is a hassle but will be worth it in the end going by 1-3 so far.

Am in the middle of watching Law Abiding Citizen, I think I've seen it before but i was so long ago I've forgotten what happens.

The problem with watching these films knowing that there's a twist makes it easy to work out what the twist in question is so probably better if you watch them without that knowledge lol

Here's a list of some of my all-time favourite films of all-time in no particular order:

Brazil
The Life Of Brian
The Holy Grail
The Meaning Of Life
Star Wars
The Empire Strikes Back
Lifeforce (a terrible film but the female lead vampire spends most of it naked lol)
All Lethal Weapons
All Die Hards
Every Dirty Harry Film
The Jungle Book (the Disney original)
Pi
Falling Down (just for the McDonalds scene lmfao)
Silent Running
Logan's Run
All 60s-70s Planet Of The Apes
Soylent Green

Am going to stop there otherwise this post is going to be HUGE lol

Me and my GF have a guilty pleasure for disaster movies as well. This one was pretty good if you close your eyes and accept that it's not based on any sense of reality lol. I thought the

    Spoiler

theory was pretty fun and the ending was so over the top, but I didn't mind it.

Yes, about as realistic maybe as The Abyss from 1989, lol - but great visual effects/cgi. Also I came unprepared for what you've got in the spoiler tag - had to quickly adjust, and then all was ok 🙂

While we're dealing with movies which got bad ratings, my wife and I saw Morbius last night - but 4K (disc version) on the Sony 85" with 1000 Hz MotionFlow, HDR, Atmos sound etc. Aware of the many bad ratings I kept asking myself "what's wrong with this movie". And I more or less kept asking myself that to the very end, lol.

As a movie, Morbius is centered on 3 persons - 2 friends and a girl. Then you add some super-powers or the like to the mix and some conflicts. While similar plots have been seen in other films, there's nothing wrong with it. Actors delivered not worse nor better performances than in so many other superhero (or supervillain) movies.

There's really nothing wrong with Morbius - it just another average 6.5/10 superhero movie. I even thought it was slightly better than Venom 2, but clearly worse then Venom 1.

Morbius is - and is not - a Marvel movie. Sony has the rights to Spidey and Spidey's friends and opponents, including Venom and Morbius. Sony let Disney use Spidey in Marvel movies, but not Venom or Morbius, so don't expect quite the same budget. Morbius at about $75 mill costed 30 - 40% of recent Marvel movies, like Thor 4 and Wakanda Forever.

Still focusing on the vampire, Morbius works great - he's a lot stronger, more scary and more agile than some other vampires I know of, lol:

I liked the actors - the plot was average, but the vampire part was pretty awesome-ish. It's kinda the average movie style for introducing a new superhero/supervillain with focus on a few character, before opening up to a bigger universe in sequels. I don't understand the critical memes much - they seem unfair. I ended up not watching Thor 4 and Wakanda Forever for more than 30 minutes, at least I made it through Morbius - but I do love vampire movies. Would be great to have Morbius and Spidey in the same movie, maybe next...

Btw, the last Batman movie lasted 2h 56min - and I thought that was way too long, and that the movie was boring. Morbius is 1h 44min, and the pace seems much better.

As a child, I loved Star Wars, never cared for Star Trek - but better late than never, just bought these 4K disc movies, never seen them before:

Interestingly - how old was Shatner when these movies launched? Shatner is one of the few still alive, he was born in 1931 - so:

Star Trek Motion Picture 1979 - Shatner was 48 years old

Star Trek II: Wrath of Khan 1982 - Shather was 51 years old

Star Trek III: The Search for Spock 1984 - Shatner was 53 years old

Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home 1986 - Shatner was 55 years old

Well, for my age I'm between Shatner in Star Trek 1 & 2 right now, lol - and I think my age is perfect for these movies. You see and understand dialogue I surely would not have as a young adult. Spock is same age as Shatner too - and the doc is in his 60'ties. At least these old men know how to dress young females (she was Miss India once, so great taste too):

In short, I think it's great I've saved these movies for so many years - even if the special effects are really bad, I do enjoy the show. And the new restored 4K versions look stunning on the Sony 85" in 100 Hz. I just had to get Star Trek V - the wife likes the movies too:

I guess we'll watch Star Trek V tomorrow.

After watching the first 5 Star Trek movies in restored 4K disc versions, I'm ready to continue ðŸ˜‡ ðŸ¤“

Also got a few more movies in the bargain bin - not really into Gran Turismo, but I got Gran Turismo 7 VR, and my kids might enjoy this movie too - I'll ask Sony to cover my expenses for the movie ðŸ˜Ž

My 16 year-old son and I are watching the Fargo TV-show on HBO Max (bought a year to get True Detective Season 4), now Season 4, it's great, but I never knew there was a movie. The Fargo movie is about 8.0 on IMDB and has been greatly restored for 4K - had to bleed like $40 for that movie, I'll enjoy it with a glass of a premium red wine this weekend 😀

I'm not normally into supporting Tom Cruise's salaries, kept me from watching Maverick for years, but finally gave in - and yes, Maverick was not exactly bad. So here I am, supporting the poor Mr. Cruise once more ðŸ˜‡ Also Mission Impossible 7 is 7.7 on IMDB.  â€ƒ

It's kind of like there's two parallel realities in Star Trek. One of them is where all of the tv series and the first movie take place, the other is where all of the movies after the first one happen. Star Trek 2 and above changed the formula to action adventure. I really like the first movie.

I'm also between Shatner in movie 1 and 2. 🙂

I just saw the trailer for Nimona. This looks **bleep** fun.

The lead is Chloe Grace Moretez. Apparently the original company that was going to make this (its based on a graphic novel) was shut down by Disney when it was 75% complete, but Netflix resurrected it.

Nimona came out yesterday and I watched it a couple of hours ago.

Very cool movie, I enjoyed it a lot. Good humor, emotional bits, action, twists, and good voice acting (Riz and Chloe were great).

I don't know how suitable for kids it is, there's violence, murder, blood (tiny bit), talk of suicide and some disturbing scenes (that were great to me, but a kid might be a bit scared). Then again, I loved The Black Hole as a kid, and that was almost a Disney Event Horizon.

Saw this one last week, it was better than I thought - I agree with the IMDB 7/10 rating:

As usual, I supported the disc makers ðŸ˜‡

The 4K disc version is really great, razor sharp images - might not be worth more than a rating of 6/10 with lesser res and without Dolby Atmos.

Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter Nights are mentioned, and you've got some of the humor present from the old games. You might not wanna watch this being too sober, those frontal lobes should not be too active when watching this movie, as you can easily ruin it by thinking "that cannot be done", "why did he do that" etc 😉 It was great entertainment for the family - my 11 year old son enjoyed it too.

I watched Vesper a few days ago.

A young girl looks after her paralyzed father in a post apocalyptic world.

It's a bit slow, but the visuals are great, a very unique movie.

This weekend, I went to watch "Talk To Me", not knowing anything about it until an hour before. I have to say, the trailer does not do the movie justice at all. I enjoyed the movie greatly, it was a very refreshing take in the current horror movie trend.

Your list includes movies from a variety of genres and eras. From science fiction classics like Star Wars and Logan's Run to dark comedies like Brazil and The Meaning of Life, you clearly appreciate movies. And, of course, Monty Python movies are comedy classics. And better than movies there are only live girls click here to visit url to enjoy real beauty and companionship. If you like movies with unexpected twists, you might enjoy more modern films in this vein, such as The Sixth Sense, Fight Club, The Usual Suspects, or Inception. These movies are known for their unexpected and mind-boggling plot twists.

With an 85" 120 Hz TV I'm not that happy for streaming - so I still buy the 4K discs for optimal quality and the uncompressed Atmos sound. Just got these, some from the bargain bin, some not 🙂

I was not much impressed with Oppenheimer, it was way too long and slightly boring - didn't even get to see the nukes exploding over Japan etc. I'd rate that movie 6.5/10. Or same as Shazam 2 and Thor 4 🙂 Babylon was fine, but didn't move me that much - 7/10.

Knock at the Cabin was a lot more awesome than I expected - I knew nothing about the movie before watching it, didn't even see the trailer. Same with Smile - quite an awesome horror movie, or better than the usual garbage, even if not up there with Barbarian. I'd rate Knock at the Cabin and Smile 8/10. Operation Fortune was really - totally unexpectedly - awesome too - this was the winning scene, much like when I offer a glass of highly selected red wine to beer addicts, lol:

The wife loved Operation Fortune - I guess this IMDB review is spot on:

Operation Fortune was 8.5/10 to me - maybe I just was in the right mood to watch that movie when we saw it. Haven't seen Elvis and Trouble with Harry yet - but my favorite of all is Across the Spider-verse, surely deserving a 9/10:

Also just ordered more 4K discs:

    - all will hopefully arrive this week...
