Question

The point VORPX crossed into the darkside

http://www.roadtovr.com/2013/05/27/vorpx-creator-ralf-ostertag-speaks-to-road-to-vr-6081

But since I’m seldomly perfectly satisfied with anything I do, I started to add more and more functionality until eventually I realized that I invested too much time into the project to give it away for free. Since then it is called vorpX.

ARRRGGHH! A thousand baby kittens scream out into the dark and DIE! Our time is a gift, from the creator, why do we always feel the need to trade it to satan and his dark forces of secrets, capitalism, and control.

So from a purely selfish perspective, sharing information is one of the best investments you can make. Mabrash May 15, 2013

http://www.duneinfo.com/unseen/jodorowsky/

I did not want to respect the novel, I wanted to recreate it. For me Dune did not belong to Herbert as Don Quixote did not belong to Cervantes, nor Edipo with Esquilo.

There is an artist, only one in the medium of a million other artists, which only once in his life, by a species of divine grace, receives an immortal topic, a MYTH... I say "receives" and not "creates" because the works of art its received in a state of mediumnity directly of the unconscious collective. Work exceeds the artist and to some extent, it kills it because humanity, by receiving the impact of the Myth, has a major need to erase the individual who received it and transmitted: its individual personality obstructs, stains the purity of the message which, of its base, requires to be anonymous... We know whom created the cathedral of Notre-Dame, neither the Aztec solar calendar, neither the tarot of Marseilles, nor the myth of Don Juan, etc.

One feels that Cervantes gave HIS version of Quixote - of course incomplete - and that we carry in the heart the total character... Christ belongs not to Mark, neither to Luke, neither to Matthew, nor to John... There are many other Gospels known as apocryphal books and there is as many lifes of Christ as there are believers. Each one of us has their own version of Dune, its Jessica, their Paul... I felt in enthusiastic admiration towards Herbert and at the same time in conflict (I think that the same thing occurred to him)... He obstructed me... I did not want him as a technical adviser ... I did everything to move him away from the project... I had received a version of Dune and I wanted to transmit it: the Myth was to give up the literary form and to become Image...

How a friend of the beatles, could constantly hunt down jadorowsky, and censor his ART for DECADES out of whatever pain, anger, or hate festered inside of him amazes me. I have been angry, I have felt hate, and hurt, but you have to let it go, you have to be happy for the time you were able to invest to help others, not try to profit from it! NOOO! VORPX GUY, come back to the light! Even Vader chose the love and light before he died. Give to the world, stop taking for yourself.

I strongly believe it is wrong to encourage piracy and disdain you for doing so.

I don't agree with all of you.

I don't agree with the OP because people can do whatever they want, good, bad or the ugly, because they will hold full responsibility for doing it.

I don't agree with people who protect this selfish money-hungry JEW (in all possible bad senses).

My point is that the guy is a jerk who feels like he's allowed to scalp money off the people and take away a piece of good software from them, and this is wrong. What are he, couldn't start donation campaing? I beleive ALL the Rift users have some quite a bunch money if they can afford buying a devkit, an expensive toy basically.

I won't be using VORPX anyway because 1) games with no native Rift support aren't exactly plays well and 2) there's TriDef and it's way better all-around. It's proprietary and commercial as well, but it was that way since the beginning, so I don't care.

This is the most long winded boring off topic pointless bullshit thread ever. Someone probably should crack vorpx teach him for having no free trial as was promised quite a while ago. I MIGHT buy vorpx, if I could try it first(and for $20-$30 not $50). Vireio cuts out some of the FOV at different resolutions and the warping is very poor, and recent release broke mirrors edge support. At least it's free. Charging $50 for vorpx beta not including full release when the full version comes out is flat out being an asshole, and this DESERVES to be cracked. I doubt all 90 supported games work properly. Tridef doesn't work at all for me, not buying that either and I found this out through their free trial. Vorpx should offer a trial but obviously the program isn't even worth it, so it should be pirated so people can evaluate before making such a purchase for unfinished software. I'm sure this was said somewhere before in the thread but I really don't have time to sift through all your guy's egotistical selfish sob stories of betrayal and intentional showing off of English writing abilities(very cheesy at that), you want to be famous and successful? Do something about it this is a thread for flaming vorpx not your cheesy little literary diaries of self pity and failure. No one cares...

Many years ago, One happy moment was reading that star wars kotor was Nvidia 3D capable, I got a mits3d tv and all the goodies, and could never get star wars kotor to work, nvidia lied to me, or I was an idiot and couldn't figure out how to do it (probably so) but that was the only reason I really wanted thier new 3d driver, to play starwars kotor in stereo3d, but I think that game used some custom opengl stuff and wouldn't work with their driver. Whoever did marketing over at Nvidia knew putting that game on that list of compaitble games was gold, but what a let down.
mtbs3d.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=4123 I am looking into that LEEP VR I lack practical 3d knowledge, I have found some good links, but I am not sure if they are the ones you were talking about. Would you mind direct linking me to them?

I love Vorpx. Great product gave me a lot of good memories playing Crysis 3 in the Rift plus Bio Shock Infinite, Dishonored, and many others. I also bought tridef but i don't use it nearly as much. When I just want to sit down and play a AAA title in the rift i go Vorpx. In my opinion it is well worth the money. Very happy with it:)

As a game developer in understand the position he took, bu on the other hand, it's way to expensive for a driver, and someone will take advantage of that. If it would be between 10-15 euro (the whole thing including taxes), i would be the first to back it up, but nearly 40Euros to pay for a thing that let's me play a game that didn't cost this much, is like paying more for gas than the actual car. Friking minecraft doesn't cost that much, and the work put into it is a billion% more. The smart thing that notch did was to steadily build a user base with a decent asking price. But when you're doing it like this, having a distorted understanding of marketing, seems kinda strange. Instead of selling way more copies at a smaller price, you create an opportunity that either someone else will take, or your software will be pirated. Especially considering that more copies of your software don't cost a thing.

I'll just sit here with my wallet closed, out of principle, and have patience, until i can find a person that i can respect, to backup with my money.

Frankly, I was sad to see this old thread dredged up again. You certainly have the right to decide if a product is worth the price and share that opinion. But why the need for the character assassination? Calling someone evil for pricing a product higher than you wish seems more than over the top.

I and many others have found Vorpx to be a good value as it opens the VR experience in many games. Others feel it costs too much or that all injection drivers are worthless. So be it. It provides an option. Ralf has been very active in updating the driver for DK2 and responding to forum members.

You can try Vireio as a free alternative. Tridef costs about the same as Vorpx and they have not yet committed to supporting the DK2. Are they evil too? I have Vireio, VorpX, Tridef, and Nthusim and have enjoyed experimenting with all four. Choice is good.

Just stating my opinion. Is that allowed on this forum? The only reason i posted was after i saw the amateurish way the registration was handled. That makes me think the guy is out of his element and he has no idea what he's doing in relation to marketing this driver. If you compare the amount of work put into a game, and in this driver, yet they are at around the same price, for me it sounds stupid. If it doesn't for others, go ahead, spend the money, i can't stop people. As long as there are people who pay that amount and accept being treated like that, we will not have decent accessible drivers.

Knowing the power and money behind Oculus VR at this point, it's a bit worrisome, that they couldn't handle the creation of a driver like this on their own.
