Question

The ugly history of strapping screens to our faces

https://www.engadget.com/2017/10/05/ugly-headsets-vr-hmd-history/

Not a detailed feature but still entertaining enough for those new to the medium.

From all what I read through the years I see the next evolution will be something like what microsoft has as using screens does feel kinda old fashioned but work perfectly well for us for the time being but microsofts version still costs an arm and a leg and many complain how the headset GPU is so slow.   The ultimate Will be a HUD that shines a light eight into your eye so you have true field of vision and of course no need to use glasses as they can focus for any eye type.

I would agree that this is a possible direction - though I have come to expect over the years... the unexpected!

I think that most of the HMD developers have invested in forging home with Standalone variants - while the PC high-end is being supported by a cabal of developers, while WinMR hopes to achieve penetration. The dark horse at the back is Daydream. One aspect that has not got much coverage is "Super High-end", pure commercial and vis-sim platforms, but offering a level of immersion beyond consumer approaches.

The HUD-style system you suggest, sounds very much like the new AR/VR (Mixed Reality) projects' proffered by the likes of MIT and the new dev's in China.

You can't expect the unexpected. Once you expect something it's expected.

And not happy with anyone dissing the Money For Nothing video either. Back in the 80s those graphics were amazing. Probably took a mainframe to do it then too lol.

And no mention of Roswell either. This is where all of this technology comes from - integrated circuits, CDs, DVDs, stealth bombers and VR. All alien technology reverse-engineered.

The truth is out there. Trust no one.

A VR Money For Nothing video would be fantastic.
