Question

VR isn’t dead. It was just taking a nap

For those that had been questioning why things had been quiet on the VR forum front of late, here is a really good overview from a VR developer on what they see is happening.

Note - For transparency, I write a column for a news service (VRFocus) that is funded by nDreams, but am impartial to their position, and only report what I feel comfortable covering.

Oculus don’t support any other PC headset so in effect support half the available PCVR market.......

Oculus powers GearVR, that's another headset. Oculus supports the Vive through Revive. That's another headset.

You've been saying this false thing for 1.5 years now; it's odd how happy you get repeating false things.

Revive isn’t officially supported by Oculus as I keep telling you.

Unofficial support is still support, as multiple people have told you. Oculus intentionally updated one of their games (Dead & Buried) specifically to work better with Revive - which is actually a form of official support... as I keep telling you.

Support doesn't have to be official to be Support.

Here's an example to hopefully help you think about this better in 2018:
Imagine if you ran of out gas on the side of the road. And you call me to pick you up. Now, either I can go myself and pick you up, or I can give my car keys to a friend to go get you. Whichever choice I make, you have still been supported by me.

Get it yet? I'm guessing no.

Also, the funny thing about your point, "Oculus don’t support any other PC headset," is that you intentionally focused on "PC headset." You do realize that PC-VR is a niche within VR, right? I'm guess no.

So again you argue that niches in VR are bad, but the only way you can try to make Facebook/Oculus seem bad is if you intentionally ignore MobileVR and ConsoleVR and focus on the few things you don't like about PCVR. Your arguments embrace "niche logic" while condemning niche's. It is truly the oddest thing. And you do it so consistently.

As for LG and Pimax... more wishful thinking that will likely end up the way your HTC Vive predictions did.

    What's dead is the hype

I'm actually looking forward to Oculus Go.

Sorry you are reading that wrong. The current phase of VR is in the "Slope of Enlightenment" - within this vector it has to now prove it's self to ascend to the next stage, but there is a serious danger of "niche failure" where movement slows. We have yet to leave the hype cycle!

sounds like a lot of business / marketing babble to me.  VR is imo better today than it was in 2016 and it was better in 2016 than it was in 2014 and 2014 it was great!.  Sometimes i think i am one of a tiny minority who has never been disappointed with anything VR has delivered so far, and quality stuff keeps on coming.

sales of VR HMDs is still going, apparently the last few months have been great, so i am just not seeing where this "VR is dead" is coming from.,.... unless it is junk sites like forbes etc who were generally on the Luddite side of the VR fence anyway imo.

Things will only get cheaper as the price of "VR capable" hardware comes down as well.
Fiat Coupe, gone. 350Z gone. Dirty nappies, no sleep & practical transport incoming. Thank goodness for VR :)

Keep in mind, cheaper is not always better!

Bigger is not always better either.

I mean... a laptop is typically cheaper than a Mainframe, and a Laptop is definitely better for the common home
    :D

I better catchphrase for Pricing in Business is this:
Fast, Cheap, Good. Pick any Two.
