Question

What do you think about the Facebook privacy breach recently ? - off topic.

Meh, its not like the NSA doesnt already copy your details. Also, Mark looks good, maybe a little too much plastic surgery.

It was smart for Zuckerberg to avoid giving a definition of 'hate speech' to a panel of technically inept nubs who thought that Facebook and Twitter are the same thing.

Silly, it’s not about how technologically savvy the senators are or are not. It’s about how much money in campaign donations Facebook has doled out to them! You obviously don’t understand how politics works.

6 days ago ... Facebook and political groups associated with it have reportedly donated to 46 of the 55 members on the House Energy and Commerce Committee, which will question Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg next week. - facebook | Big Government

This entire hearing is making Zuckerberg look more and more like a Super Hero to the entire free world

    Really?

    1) I never said anything about "totally trusting" Zuckerberg.
    2) That survey was taking before the Senate hearings began.

This is not a conversation about politics. I do understand very well how politics works, but I have no desire to talk about it here. Nor do I have a desire to talk about it with you considering how often you've made your bias known.

The Senate hearings began due to privacy concerns, and Privacy is also the topic of this thread. You are one of the few who can't help but make it political. Besides, you don't really care about campaign donations, as you have heatedly defended those of Palmer. The only reason you condemn Zuckerberg for his donations is because Zuckerberg's political leanings go against your own political alignment.

Amazon had to declare that the patents filed for listening to speech, even when Alexa wasn't called (so that it could identify interests & target advertising) were not intended to be used. Right.

One of the congressman's questions included the statement that 'pretty soon, none of us are going to have any privacy at all'. Which struck  more than most of the rest of the arguments.

I think it boils down to:

Whether we're given a choice as to what data of ours is collected, and I don't mean the choice to use Facebook or not, I mean the choice, once using Facebook to choose which data. Yes, there are options to tick as to who sees what, but that doesn't really cover data collection.

Whether we're given a choice as to what data is shared and with whom. Again, as with data collection, the options don't cover everything, only what' defined as public or private with regard to friends or otherwise.

How good is the data security, so that the limits of the choices we make aren't exceeded. Well, I don't think our choices are clear, so security doesn't seem to have a solid foundation to work off.

As with Alexa, we're losing the ability to make a choice. It's not like we're ever going to ask people to switch off Alexa (or Google whatever) when we visit their homes. And we don't (as a whole) ask our Facebook contacts to limit their exposure to data harvesting apps, which we (as their contacts) may be affected by.
