Question

What was your favorite VR Holiday gift?

I'm curious as to how many folks received a Holiday Gift specific to Virtual Reality. Whether a piece of Hardware or Software.

For me it was the GelPro Elite Floor Mat:

I stood on this for an hour straight playing through the Single Player campaign of The Unspoken; the difference was impressive. Having been on my feet in VR for many long hours beginning back in April of 2016, I can say that having a high-end stress-relief floor mat feels awesome. There are plenty of other great mat's out there, and I highly recommend any of them to anyone who spends a great deal of time with Standing Experiences in VR.

Anyone else get any fun/cool VR gifts?

Damn, forgot about these.  Should have asked Father Christmas for one.  Will just have to order one myself in January.

They have quite the floor mat lineup, but this one looks nearly identical to mine:

Mine is 20x36 (inches) but they have a wider one (20x48).

Thanks mate, ill have to see if they are available on european amazons or stores :) I need something to indicate my walking area, as I keep slamming into my wall.

Well my CV1 headphones dun busted

So I stuck it to them [evil FB and Oculus by not letting them fix the headphones under the warrenty] by getting some z906 5.1 surround sounds.  Blimey!

Sense of presence now at 11/10!

Elite and AC.  Brand new games.

However, most VR titles assume use of headphones and don't employ surround sound, which kinda sucks. So jokes on me, right FB? :(

Probably a dumb question on my part since I haven't tried sending my VR sounds directly to speakers... but can't you just set both the "Default Device" and "Default Communication Device" to your spakers in your Sound settings? If both are set, then all the games should (theoretically) stop using the Rift headphones.

Yeah this works, I do it all the time.

have you considered building it yourself. 7 speakers, some ply wood and a soundcard should do the trick :p

I received VRCover facial interface and 10ft extension cables. They've been working without any issue so far, and I'm really enjoying the extra slack and comfort.

But the best VR gift I received this December was from Oculus. I had been experiencing the orange light issue when the display doesn't turn on in the headset. It had been plaguing me for months but I kept dealing with it but it got to the point where I had to re-install my drivers every time I started the Rift to get it to work. I went ahead and put a ticket in with support. I just wanted to see if there was any tips support could offer with troubleshooting whatever the issue was causing this to happen on two separate computers.

I went through the troubleshooting with support and then sent my logs for both computers. I gave support plenty of time to evaluate it all. I was really hoping there was just something on my end I needed to fix. As I knew I wouldn't be eligible for a replacement headset, because I've had my Rift for nearly a year and half.

Though I received the best news I could expect from Oculus, when they explained they would go ahead and replace the Rift (headset-only). I was shocked and surprised, and I had a pretty big smile across my face. Oculus had my info on when I'd gotten my Rift and it was a pre-order unit. Oculus still went through with replacing it and I am extremely grateful they did so, because I believe they didn't have to.

Support never explained what they thought may have been the issue with the headset though, and I kind of felt sad to see my original Rift go because I formed such good memories with it. Though now I'm ready for a new year with my new headset and can't wait to experience what's next for the Rift.

So thanks, Oculus! I hope everyone here had a great Holiday as well!
