Why do people not want to show their faces with a profile photo?

Just wondered why majority of people here don't want to show their faces to communicate.
Why is this?

I used to show my face on my YT profile pic but I started to get comments about my sexuality so I removed it.I think being shirtless had something to do with it. btw, I am happily married and straight. I think if I used this as my forum profile pic, (because I post a lot of topics sometimes) people will start wanting to do horrible things to me.

The reason is simple.
So far, this market is a very geeky niche.

Most geeks know not to show their faces in the wrong places online.
LinkedIn and FaceBook are already very debatable places to put a profile picture.

You don't want your IP directly correlated to a picture of you, do you?
