Question

ASW is causing Horizon Link to freeze in my headset's view at random in PCVR.

This is solely a Link issue.

All of the "fixes" and workarounds I have read on Reddit and here have resulted in nothing working, I'm past caring now, for a few weeks the link software was working perfectly last month until an update pushed something that broke it entirely, not only that but ASW can't even be disabled anymore through the debug menu as it just re-enables itself every time I reboot link or start up a game through steam using the Link's XR runtime, so I can't play VR games through PCVR/Link.

What I have tried that didn't work:

1. Using the debug menu to forcefully disable ASW, just re-enables itself in the dash area and it's very clear that it's happening because my very smooth motions and my frames per second drop to a very stuttered 45.

2. Using the keyboard control Ctrl-NUM1 does nothing as ASW just re-enables itself immediately after which is visible in the dash world.

3 Reverting NVIDIA drivers to version 591.XX and lower, this did nothing as the drivers have nothing to do with this issue after testing many versions above 591.

4 Reinstalled the Link software dozens of times, it doesn't even install itself properly but that's a separate issue entirely.

5. Used a Reg-Edit "fix" to disable ASW on start-up, has done nothing at all as it still caused my view to freeze and become distorted.

6. Tried many ports on my PC to see if it's a defective port, they're working normally.

7. Reinstalled my current NVIDIA driver to see if it was a bad install, it's not even related.

8. Tried playing games through SteamVR using the Meta XR runtime, still freezes even through SteamVR.

I'm running a quest 2, I have seen a few other quest 2 users also bring this issue up, however my friend on a Quest 3 has never had this issue, only the occasional randome Link disconnect, so I guess I'm out of luck with fixes or solutions.

Get rid of ASW, it causes more problems than it gives benefits.

    for clarification, what is ASW?

ASW is short for Asynchronous Spacewarp, it is a function that injects fake frames in to your quest's frame stream to make it run smoother, however it can cause distortion if the fps runs too low and often slows games down, the irony of this is that people who know about this function will tell you to just disable it in the debug menu, but with these recent updates Meta has broken something with ASW causing it to just freeze link randomly, It can't even be disabled now no matter what you do in the debug menu. It just causes more issues than it's actually worth.

So this would be the issue im having, I can play for maybe 10 mins on link and then suddenly my oculus freazes frame and will not move at all. My monitor however is still tracking movements. I have to restart my PC and oculus just to get it to connect to link again only for it to do this in another 5-10 mins. Im Pissed.
