BUG: Stuck on Profile Selection screen after enabling Voice Commands / UI frozen (NO FACTORY RESET)

Hello,

I am facing a severe software deadlock on my Meta Quest 3.

Please note: I absolutely cannot do a factory reset. I must keep the accounts and data currently on the headset. I am looking for a workaround to bypass this bug.

How it happened:

My headset language was set to French. I enabled Voice Commands and went through the tutorial. Commands like "back", "scroll up", and "scroll down" worked, but the "tap" command failed. Immediately after this setup, the tracking system completely crashed.

Current Symptoms:

  • Controllers & Hands are dead: Hand tracking does not work. The controllers are on and connected (pressing the right Meta button successfully re-centers the view), but there are no laser pointers and no buttons respond.
  • Stuck on Profile Screen: I am blocked at the initial profile selection menu.
  • Head-Gaze UI Deadlock: The emergency head-gaze mode (white dot) is active. When I aim the dot at my profile and press the physical Volume + or Volume - buttons, the dot visually expands (proving the hardware button press is registered by the OS), but nothing happens. The UI is completely frozen and refuses to click.

What I have already tried (None of this worked):

  • Hard reboot (holding the power button for 30+ seconds).
  • Removing the batteries from the controllers and rebooting.
  • Restarting via the Android Boot Menu (Power + Volume down).
  • Trying to launch a game/app directly from the mobile app (fails because no profile is loaded).
  • Pairing a Bluetooth PC controller via the app (doesn't register clicks on the frozen UI).
  • I am currently letting the battery drain to 0% to clear the RAM, but I want to explore other solutions if this fails.

Since the OS registers my volume button presses but the UI refuses to execute the click, it's a clear software deadlock.

Has anyone found a way to force a UI refresh, bypass this screen, or remotely disable Voice Commands (perhaps via the mobile app) WITHOUT a factory reset?

Thank you.

I'm not sure you understand exactly what a factory reset does. All your data, games, progress is backed up automatically to the cloud, unless you did something not smart like switching off cloud backup on your headset.

After reset, just sign into your account again and everything there will be restored.

I know you're telling me my data is safe, but the terrifying reality is that I am entirely locked out of one specific account because my credentials are gone. This account isn't just 'important', it is completely irreplaceable. I absolutely cannot, under any circumstances, lose it. A factory reset would wipe it out forever, and that is an outcome I refuse to accept

What else I tried (Did not work):

    • Battery drain
    • Updating the firmware with  https://www.meta.com/fr-fr/help/quest/software_update/

It looks like you've tried everything possible. So, there are two options. Reset the headset or don't and no longer have the use of your headset. It's surprising that if this account is so irreplaceable, you haven't backed it up, or kept note of the necessary credentials.

Have you talked to Meta Support? You don't put that on your list of possible solutions you've tried.

Here is an email link to an actual human at Meta, you could ask them. But ultimately they'll give you the same answer.  If you want a working headset, do a factory reset (it might work or not depending on what the problem is) or have nothing. Either way it looks like you can say goodbye to your irreplaceable account, and learn the lesson of backing up or making a copy in the future. We are ultimately responsible for the data on our devices, it's why we back up our PC's, phones and tablets. No device is immune to failure.

Anyway, here's the link but don't expect miracles.
