Can Setting Up a Child's Meta Quest Account Incorrectly Trigger an Age Ban on a Parent's WhatsApp?
Hi Meta Community
I'm 41 years old, born on 25 March 1985, and I've used the same WhatsApp account for approximately 20 years.
Recently, my WhatsApp account was permanently disabled because Meta apparently believes I don't meet its minimum age requirement.
The problem is that I'm clearly an adult, and my date of birth is correctly recorded in Meta Accounts Centre.
The restriction appeared around the same time I set up a Meta Quest headset and account for my daughter. I'm concerned that her age may somehow have become incorrectly associated with my Meta account.
When I open WhatsApp, I'm instructed to visit Facebook to verify my age. However, clicking the button simply opens my normal Facebook homepage. There is no verification process, appeal option or explanation.
I've contacted WhatsApp Support, Meta Support and Meta Store Support numerous times. I've also been told that an investigation was assigned for human review, but I've received no meaningful updates or resolution.
Meta Store Support has confirmed that they cannot reverse WhatsApp restrictions, although they have offered to help investigate the age settings associated with the Quest headset.
My questions are:
-
Can setting up a child's Meta Quest account cause their age information to become incorrectly associated with a parent's Meta account?
-
How can I check whether my Meta Horizon account has been incorrectly classified as belonging to a minor?
-
Is there a way for Meta Support to investigate and correct any incorrect account associations?
-
How can I obtain a genuine human review when WhatsApp's age-verification process redirects me to Facebook without offering any way to verify my identity?
I've been locked out of an account that is essential for both my personal and business communications, despite being more than old enough to use the service.
I'm happy to provide proof of age and screenshots through an official, secure support channel.
If any Meta moderator or specialist can point me towards the correct team or help investigate this issue, I would be extremely grateful.
Thank you.
