Controllers green dots question

Hi,

I have a question regarding headset behavior. Should five green dots appear for both controllers immediately upon turning on the device?

I recall seeing them in the past, though I cannot remember if they appeared during startup or were app-dependent. However, since updating to OS 2.5 and 2.6, I no longer see them at all.

Could you please clarify when these green dots are supposed to appear, and if this change is expected with the latest updates?

Advance thanks.

Hi taidomqvr πŸ™‚

Could you please clarify when these green dots are supposed to appear, and if this change is expected with the latest updates?

Are you talking about dots that shows the battery state of the controller?

If so, the dots are there immediately after starting the headset, you don't have to open an app to see them.

I'm on v2.7, the dots are still there... I have only four dots btw.πŸ™ƒ

The 4 green dots are virtual, not on the physical controllers. You can only see them through the headset. If you don't see them, your controller batteries are dead.

Thank you for confirming that I am not senile aside from the extra dot. Since I can no longer see them, I am just guessing the number and have a 50/50 chance of being right. πŸ˜†

Are these virtual dots turn itself off after a while?

Do you still receive headset warning when your controllers battery are low?  I no longer seem them either.

Thanks for the joke.  I feel VIP.  πŸ˜‚

@steve_40:

According to the headset quick control and the Meta app, both controller batteries are at 100%. Furthermore, I have just replaced them.

taidomqvr I'm glad I gave you a laugh! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ I'm getting a pop up when the battery is low. As I'm left handed, it's always the left one first!

Thank you all for your valuable feedback and your sense of humor.

Despite exhausting all Meta Support troubleshooting suggestionsβ€”including resetting the controller, performing a factory default reset on the headset, and using the Meta software update toolβ€”the controller's virtual battery status and battery warning are still not working. It continuously shows a 100% battery level despite days of usage.

Do you think this is a hardware or software issue? My device is still under warranty, and the Meta Support team has asked whether I want to replace the headset or the controller. Since it seems like a 50/50 chance for either, what would you do in this situation?

taidomqvr I still think it's software. If you are getting plenty of hours from your controllers and you can play normally I'd advise waiting for a possible fix. Here's why. The return and replacement process at Meta is an absolute nightmare to put it mildly. They might promise a 7 to 14 day return and replacement window but the reality is that people are waiting at least 3 months for a replacement, headsets or controllers. Sometimes controllers are even worse to get replaced.. Just today a Korean customer complained of waiting 6 months for a replacement headset and still hasn't got it. You can check the forums, there are lots of horror stories. If everything is working, you can play games,, run apps and everything is working fine except for the battery life display, keep it, don't send it back.

Thank you both for your advice and for sharing your experiences.

My experience with the return process has been smooth so far, typically taking about three weeks for transit, inspection, and replacement. This is actually my third replacement headset; the first wouldn't hold a charge, and the second showed a solid orange charging status even when fully charged. My current device's warranty expires in December 2026.

Given the issues others have faced, I agree with your advice. Since my current device is working, I will wait for the next software fix. If that doesn't work, I will wait until the controller becomes unresponsive and then swap the battery. Moreover, based on my past experience, there is also a good chance I might end up with another defective unit and have to restart the troubleshooting process. 😬

Ultimately, this device is just a stepping stone while I wait for the next generation. Lesson learnedβ€”I should have turned off auto-updates once everything was working properly.

taidomqvr Good decision. I always keep  auto updates off until I hear everything is hunky dory! πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

Yeah, I am going to run and hide or make a pact with the angel of death if they come before I can lay my hand on the Quest 4.

If no deal, there will be a clause in my living will that my family need to buy one and burn for me so I play in the after life.  πŸ€£
