Endless droning noise randomly starts and won't go away until headset restarted

A recently introduced audio bug is driving me absolutely nuts, especially as the quest 3 is my favourite device of all time, I use it as a tv, home cinema, browser, virtual monitors for working, pc gaming, etc.  But it's become unusable.

The problem is that randomly after exiting VR, or the headset coming out of sleep mode, an endless drone sound begins playing, very similar to the one the pc link environment has (which is why nobody can use it for anything other than quickly launching a game).

The drone will dissapear when I enter VR games or apps such as virtual desktop, but it won't dissapear from the main OS's user interface until the headset is restarted.  This means watching watching netflix or prime in the browser has a constant loud droning sound that warbles intrusively over the movies and shows.

Even things like remote desktop, or windows app are unusuable because of it.

It only began very recently, within the last two updates.

I'd be eternally grateful if this could be fixed.

I'm on v 2.4.1034, build 5216847.5290.520 (installed Jun 17, 2026)

Edit: I'm marking this as the solution, but it's actually just a workaround until hopefully a firmware update provides an actual solution.

Thanks, I did find the solution at sete_40's link, it's something related to the boundary, and can be less temporarily fixed by clearing the boundary data stored on the quest 3, and then creating a new boundary.  It doesn't fix it permanently, but when it happens again, I no longer need to reset the headset, I just create a new boundary and it goes away again until next time.

I really hope it's fixed in the next firmware, because it's still a hassle having to re-draw a boundary every time it happens.

It's your headset's Cosmic Calibration Cycle in progress 😋.
