Question

Have to "repair" the Link software every time...

The Quest Link app for Windows has been horribly broken for a few weeks now. There's a 50% chance I'll need to use the setup program and hit "repair" after every use, as it frequently freezes upon startup.

If I get lucky and it does work, I will have to fully reboot the Quest 3 afterwards, as otherwise, after closing the Link software, my hands will never reappear and I have no way to use navigate the Quest menus (I don't use controllers with the headset, just hands - and all hand tracking dies after using Quest Link for Windows until after a hard reboot of the Quest 3).

This never used to happen prior to a recent update, so I really hope things get back to normal soon.

I’ve had a ticket open for over a week now. Get this, I was having trouble with my quest 2 and decided it was time for an upgrade. So I went out and bought a new quest 3 and new link cable. Dumbest $700 I’ve ever spent. I can usually get this to work if I do the time consuming fix link process. My aftermarket cable works everytime after the fix link process, but the meta one will freeze sometimes after the fix link process and I’ll have to do it again. You should see some of the responses I’ve gotten on my ticket. lol. The support is laughable. I’ve uploaded error logs multiple times and wasted hours jumping through hoops to reinstall/update/turn on-turn off etc. My latest suggestion was to try my head set and cable on a spare gaming computer. I guess if you use Meta equipment you need to buy a second PC so you can test for them. I wish I had seen this thread before I bought this junk. I would definitely have gone with another brand.

I found a much faster fix than repairing the install after every shutdown/startup!  It also fixes it if I sign out of my Windows User account, then sign back in.  This causes the Meta Quest Link app to auto load for some reason & it works fine until next shutdown/startup.

I've had this issue for several weeks.  Every time I restart my computer, the Meta Quest Link app won't finish loading, I can't connect to my PC & I have to stop the process.  Everything worked fine before this update.  This is completely unprofessional & unacceptable.  The fix above works but I have concerns a future auto update will eventually break it beyond repair.   Is there a way for us to revert to older versions?  Is there a reason updates are breaking the app for so many people with no fix for so long?  This makes it extremely hard for me to trust Meta products from now on.

I have same issue, I9 14900 RTX 4090 64Gig of ram.    I got a hold of someone in tech support,  they sent me a sticker to send back headset for repair, however I don’t think headset is bad, its something to do with update of software in pc link ap.    The thing works fine, till it does its required update, andter repairing it and reinstalling the meta quest link software.   It has to update, no way to stop it, then breaks it again.   Can you fix this, or let us send our headset back for refund, and ill get some other brand?   This sucks…

Add me to the list.  brand new, top of the line computer, no issues before, loved the product.  Recent update...and now I when I log in and load Link, it cycles forever on a black entry screen.  Never loads.  Only option is to run setup each time, redownload 2GB of software, install...but I if I turn off my computer...do it all over.  Please help meta.

I found. faster way, just hit Ctrl Alt Del end task of all Oculus software,   There is the main run running, and 3-4 others down below on the list.   relaunch the link again, and it works…. Its lame, but better than reinstalling, through repair feature…. They need to fix this..

That's what I've been doing too, only after a session ends, so when I start again next time... no issues.

Isn't it strange that Meta don't appear to have commented on the problem, which has obviously been caused by another useless update. I wonder what is the point of Beta/PTC as surely these issues should/would show up at that time, before sending it out to us?

The work around mentioned above saves a ton of time if you are clicking “repair” and reloading software everytime.

When you get an unsuccessful link, or just anytime you know it’s not going to work, just log out of windows and log back in. It’s still a pain, but way quicker/easier and has worked for me every time.

Meta support is still clueless with my ticket. Every few days a different clown sends me another time consuming list of unsuccessful things to try. I humored them for the first few weeks, but have stopped since the windows log out/in has been working. Only thing I haven’t done that they suggested was reinstalling windows. I shared with them my success with the work around and obviously they aren’t cascading it to other users. Still beyond disappointed with Meta. Hopefully potential buys catch this and make better brand decisions. I know I wish I would have.

I recommend everyone write a review or update your review based on recent experience so potential new buyers know what they can expect from Meta.

Kevinash20  Restarting the Oculus VR Runtime Service worked for me too. Haven't tested to see if it'll still work after a reboot, but at least this is better than repairing the app.

Yes, it worked for me.  It would need to be done after every reboot unless you change the Oculus VR Runtime Service to Delayed Start. Set it and forget it.

Bob, you are awesome. Worked like a charm. I'm pissed it was so simple after trying a few of Meta's more intricate suggestions. Also pissed this was necessary at all.

Thanks again man! All the best to you.

With the latest non-ptc v77.1026 and meta link pc app non-beta v77.0.0.574.329 I don't seem to have any of these Link startup issues (tested with Q2/Q3/QPro).  Hopefully you'll find the same once you get the v77 rollout.  Cheers.

For me, it's the meta link pc app non-beta v77.0.0.574.329 that's causing the problem. Also, closing the app to the taskbar is just another annoyance. Thank you Meta.

Same non-ptc/beta versions and not having any problems with Link.  I have noticed that to properly exit the app now you need to look in your lower right taskbar and right clock on the Meta icon, then select Exit.  Doing this a couple times makes it feel very natural, for me anyway.
