headset won't start after 2.7 update

I have tried about everything other than a factory reset, really don't want to have to do that AGAIN. What happens when you turn it on, the meta logo comes up, and then it just goes to a black screen.

ChatGPT had me try a bunch of stuff.. I tried pressing power + vol down and went to sideload

went to metas software update tool, it finds my headset, hit connect it comes up saying 2.7 download, i hit download and it says reconnect device, download failed EVERYTIME

earlier after messing with it for an hour it was setting on the sideload screen and it rebooted itself and actually turned on.. played it, turned it off and now it's doing the same thing again. anyone have any ideas?

Try if a single short press or double press of the power button starts the headset.

Sounds weird, I know🤪... but this has helped some people with other start issues lately.

EDIT - I did figure out once it started again how to connect to computer and backup files.. only thing I can't backup is the data folder under android.

for some reason this headset turns itself on after you turn it off.. you don't even have to press power.. so it makes it hard to even get in the settings with vol up or down.

but this last time I held power down, held it while it started up and it rebooted again and actually turned on.. this is 3 times I have been able to get it to start.. the other times were in the sideload adb screen.. after it set on that for 10 mins or so.. twice it rebooted and started. this wouldn't be such a big deal if this wasn't my sons headset.. he's destroyed that it's doing this.. I normally can fix anything.. on the computer, vr etc. but this i'm at a loss

he doesn't want me to factory reset because he's got a bunch of downloaded apks to games he got from watching youtube videos and discord channels. I did do a cloud backup and chose it to choose everything and it said it completed.. but I don't think those files back up..

shouldn't there be a way I could plug this into my computer and access it like a drive? I could back up all the files he wants to keep

What Choleni says worked for me.. I actually got this bug on v2.5, with my 3s, just had to do a quick press on the side to bring up the menu, though it's fixed now. If you try to update through the tool, if it detects it's exactly the same version,, rather than saying that, it often just says download failed, so don't worry about that. You should report it through the bug reporting tool on your headset though so they're aware.
