login loop when trying to log in with Meta Quest App

Yes, that gray screen instead of the promised login screen is familiar. The auth.meta.com page also shows only gray, though it works on my PC.

Message to the MetaQuestSupport: I've tried all of the stuff you recommend, at some point I got to the pairing stuff which failed. Now the problem is that app which only gives me a gray screen. Seems to me that the box where you enter email and PW, the box which shows up on a desktop PC or notebook, doesn't show up on a mobile phone. Henceforth the gray screen. Maybe the designers should tone down the fancy stuff (ie. that box) and code something that works foolproof?

I'm using version 193.1.0.15.104 released on 15.12.2022.

Exactly the same happened here and I'm truly flabbergasted that such a seemingly "simple" issue is still not fixed yet. It's bad enough that Meta requires an app and all my data but then at least make it work 😠

I tried it on iOS and Android - both with the same result. I can authenticate via Browser just fine, just the in-app pop-up/redirect is simply broken. It will request cookie consent and when I accept it will show the login page shortly, refresh and ask for cookie consent again.
Technical data:

  • Meta App version 193.0
  • tried via Wifi and mobile data
  • with and without ad-blockers
  • with and without requesting "desktop version"
  • same result no matter whether I try to use instagram, facebook or just email

  • Meta App Version 193.1.0.15.104
  • same observations like on iOS
  • but additionally the buttons were often hidden or appeared only after reload
  • after I requested the desktop version, it finally worked after several attempts

So...after literally 4 HOURS of frustration I was able to set up the headset. Why I'm required to activate location services to connect the headset is a mystery to me though - would a tooltip to improve the transparency hurt? 

Lucky me, that I had a very, very old android tabled that somehow did the job.

Apparently, this issue affects pretty much all websites that are opened though the App. E.g. if I click on the Link to "Increase the battery life time" I'll be asked for cookie consent again and guess what: after accepting I'll have one second to read the content because right after that, the page will reload and ask for consent again.

Also, connecting the Headset to the App is a game of luck. Restarting both, Headset and Tablet, has a positive impact...doesn't work consistently though. What a bummer that the App is NOT optional for setup only because someone thought it would be a great idea to make certain Headset-settings ONLY available in the App and ONLY if the headset is connected. Don't get me wrong: I have nothing against an app per se. It even could provide nice additional features, but needing it for no obvious reason is kinda weird.

Made me hopefulI... downloaded the most recent Meta App on iOS (201.0) - still the same issue. So unfortunately no fix for iOS. I gave up on that 😞

Same problem here. I opened several tickets on their support, they just close the ticket after 2 days, without doing anything. Once they offered me 20 euros because I lost my purchases, which they put on the account which I cannot access. They are just useless.

Over a year later and the issues with missing app libraries have NOT been resolved. But the even more frustrating issue of not being able to log into the meta quest app has rendered many users headsets completely useless. Can you say CLASS ACTION? Who's with me?

In my case, after a long while I've realised that upon an attempt to log in, Facebook sends me further auth e-mail not to the primary e-mail address (opposite to what happens when logging to FB). That solved my issue.

got my quest 3 in the mail today and now experiencing this exact issue from this goddamn horribly designed app, no matter WHAT I  DO it will constantly put me in a loop of logging in, it goes a little like this:

What's your email address?: (My email)

Check your Emails: Use password instead

Log in to your Meta Account

Username: (Email)

Password: (Password)

hit login and then boom, What's your email address? AGAIN, in an infinite loop, this will keep happening and no matter what the hell i do nothing will fix it, who designed this app?

Having this same issue, stuck in a login loop. Has anyone found a solution?

Hey ScaredArtichoke, could you confirm if you're still having this issue with your headset? Have you attempted to re-install the mobile application and use different login methods? At times, the login issue may just be the wrong selection!
