Meta Quest 3 stuck on "applying software update"

I just bought new Meta quest 3, and on the first time while going through normal activation process after I connected it to a WiFi it started to apply software update.

It does that for a short while , saying " applying software update" and then restarting.

After it boots up, it just goes back to the exact same phase, "applying software update" and restarting, again and again in an infinite loop.

I've tried connecting it to a charger, factory resetting it, and connecting to different wifi network, living it alone for hours in that loop.

Nothing seems to be helping...

What can I do to go past that update process? Or updating in some other way? Because as of now my device is absolutely unusable.

Hi everyone! πŸ™‚ I hope you're all doing well. Upon exploring further, It seems like there's a V66 iteration of this issue that has surfaced in another thread. Since our engineering team is keeping a close eye on the most recently created thread, I'm going to be locking this one. This way, all the reports will be in one place for our Internal team. Once I have an update, I'll be sure to share it in this thread here. You may also find some helpful insight from other users who are facing the same issue.

Don't worry be happy.

OMG.  I was able to find a solution/hack.  SIDELOAD the update.  I came across this youtube video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YQqIDb9NERY

He'll give you step by step info through win/mac/linux on how to download the tools and update the Q3 manually.  I can now say I am finally in the OS on the Q3, but the Meta app is stalling for some reason.

Good luck everyone.

Yes, I'm waiting on respone re not pairing with mobile app. I've purple light (still) on the left side now and I think it should be white.

Fixed the β€œapplying update” loop by sideloading the latest firmware (as another user suggested) only for the Meta Quest app headset pairing to not work. Each time I go to pair the headset within the Meta Quest app, I enter the 5 digit code displayed in the headset and get β€œCan’t pair headset. We’ve detected an issue with pairing your headset” in the app.

Trying to set up this device was so laughably bad I should probably purchase some puts on META

OK, here is what I went through and my thought about it:

1) all yesterday I had the reboot during update issue (tried everything)

2) in the evening I scheduled a pickup for returning the device

3) I also noticed that (also yesterday) the Meta App wasn't able to create Avatar (via the selfie cam)

4) This morning I tried (just for fun) to create an avatar again, and it worked.

5) When I arrived home, I took the device out of the already packed box (ready for return) and.... everything worked and now my device is setup.

So my opinion is that it was a server problem all along and nobody from the support cared to make 2+2. A lot of people (like me) likely returned their device for no reasons, wasting time and resources, and causing useless frustrations.

Prove me wrong πŸ™‚

Now what should I do? Cancel the pick up? Or return the device just in case it was actually defective and it magically started working by itself today?

It would be nice to have an official (and quick) acknowledgement from Meta that there were server issues yesterday.

Thank you

Mrvn yes, I was able to connect with my app, after the update was done.

I think I will test a bit further with also games, and then cancel the pick-up.

Same for me. I left the headset for 15 or so minutes and tried again and this time it worked. I finally succeed to connect with mobile app despite purple light. Funny enough I still have purple light instead of white. It’s really annoying I’m not sure everything is fine with the headset, it’s working for now but I’m not confident that everything is right.

Hey there! πŸ™‚ I've got an important update from our internal team. It would be recommended if you guys could give a different network a try, such as a hotspot or another connection? It would be really helpful for them to take a closer look at this issue. If it's possible, could you guys also provide me with the software update version for the headset and for the mobile app? This information will enable me to provide them with the necessary details.

Don't worry be happy.

Hey, I have been suffering from the same exact issue for the past several days. I have tried many different solutions, each one preceded by a factory reset, most of them attempted multiple times. None of them worked. These attempted solutions include:

- resetting the headset and letting it apply the update for several hours
- Attempting to sideload the update
- Connecting to a mobile hotspot
- Resetting my router and attempting to apply the update
- Resetting my router and attempting to sideload the update
- Connecting my phone to a VPN, turning on a mobile hotspot, then connecting my headset to the hotspot
- Connecting my phone to a VPN, turning on the hotspot, then attempting to sideload the update

7 different solutions, attempted multiple times. Leading to 17+ factory resets of my quest 3, and it is still unusable in any capacity other than putting on a filter over my vision. If anyone has any other solutions they'd like to share, I would be happy to try those. As it stands, however, with such a prevalent and all-consuming software issue, I have a 500 dollar paperweight.

Very quick update. I booted up the Quest 3 today and the issue seems to have resolved itself. Which I am grateful for but also quite confused by. I apologize to anyone else suffering from this because I don't have a solution that you can actively try

Same issue here, nothing helped and the solution then was very simple: I let the Quest on itΒ΄s own just by accident for 2 or 3 hours and when I came back, the update process was done and I could link it to my phone. Horrible, especially when thinking about new updates or so, IΒ΄m quite in doubt if I keep this as I do not trust it πŸ™‚ I mean, an update process should be the easiest thing to program.

Unfortunately itΒ΄s not that easy, as a a lot of people tried that also, including me. At some point it just happened to work. Call it luck or whatever, but not a reliable procedure, as well as the Sideload-option is.

Easy - Uninstall the Mobile App. Hard Reset QR3 by pressing power for 30 seconds (not factory reset). Reinstall the Mobile App. Then redo the setup process. Then all will get solved.
