Meta Quest 3S stuck on black/grey screen after Meta logo

Hello everyone,

I am having a problem with my Meta Quest 3S and I cannot find a solution.

When I turn on the headset, I see the Meta logo normally, but after the logo disappears, the screen becomes black/grey and the headset does not continue to the setup screen.

I have already tried the following:

Factory reset from the recovery menu

Hard reboot by holding the power button for more than 30 seconds

Installing the latest software through USB and Meta debug tools

Manual sideload updates

Changing boot slots

Multiple restarts and recovery attempts

Nothing has fixed the issue. The headset still shows the Meta logo and then gets stuck on the grey/black screen.

Has anyone experienced this problem before? Is there another recovery method I can try, or does this look like a hardware failure?

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Yes, same issue happened yesterday. I purchased my Quest 3 directly from Meta. My original headset failed under warranty and Meta replaced it with a refurbished headset. After about nine months, the replacement now boots to the Meta logo, audio works, but the display goes black. I've performed a factory reset from the boot menu with no change. The support website only tells me my warranty expired and offers a $359 replacement, but provides no way to contact a human. Can a moderator help me open a support case for a supervisor review?

ilmod2k  Did you not read the comments in the thread???! There are a couple of possible solutions and a WhatsApp link to talk to someone directly at Meta. This is a user only forum, there are no Meta employees here or Meta moderators, the moderators work for Khoros, the hosters of the forum, they have no connection with Meta. Please read the information before asking the same question.

Hi zaka8573.2023  and ilmod2k

The black screen is often caused by sweat/moisture which found its way into the headset.

4 headset replacements in 4 months - 1244716

Sometimes a hairdryer (no heat) like shown in the video can cure that.

If this doesn't work, contact Meta support via email, chat or WhatsApp HERE

If your warranty has been expired, you can look for a repair service like Fix my Oculus - if you are in the US - or google for a vr headset repair service in your country.

Thanks for the advice Choleni and ilmod2k , i'll try both methods, i forgot to mention that when that issue occured i left the Quest 3S sitting in the shelf, i came back to it and grabbed it wanting to fix it, for now i'm gonna head to get the hairdryer, if that doesn't work i'll let the battery deplete and recharge!

OK this is strange but worth sharing. I charged it to 99%, booted up, got black/grey screen and just set it down for an hour or more. When I came back, I adjusted the visor frame (black part) to the all the way in (close to white part) and when I put it on it was working. It was down to 39% charge, but I went through initial config and powered down and up and it is now working. I don't know what happened, but it worked. (for now). Good luck!

This sounds as if the proximity sensor was blocked by something and so the headset could not detect that it's worn. By adjusting the facemask you brought your face closer to the proximity sensor.

Great that you could solve your problem. πŸ‘

I have the same, but there is a quick solution: Tap only short on the on/off at the side, than it is black - really black no grey. Tap again and it works and you see the menue.

Nxon2   In this thread are some suggestions you can try to fix your problem.

If you still have warranty, you'll also find a link to Meta support and if your warranty has been expired a link to a vr headset repair service.

You just have to read the thread.πŸ˜‰
