Meta Quest update button not doing anything after PTC V66

Im on ptc v66 and I got the update for the official rollout of v66. When I click update the download progress pops up for a second and goes away. The button to update is greyed out and stuck “updating…” I’ve let it sit for quite a while. Reset several times and nothing. If you leave update and go back it has the option to update now again. Resets do nothing

Hi everyone! 👋 I hope you're all doing well. I have some great news to share from our Internal team. It seems that the issue has been resolved! Now, to get things back on track, it would be recommended to reboot your headset. You can find the step-by-step instructions on how to do it successfully at this link here. It's super helpful and will guide you through the process smoothly. If you're still facing any problems, shoot a private message to MetaStoreHelp. They'll be more than happy to help and take a closer look into the matter for you.

Don't worry be happy.

Hi, I just got my Quest 3 few weeks ago, it did update to the latest firmware which is V65 at the time I registered the device.

but I got system software V66 update notice this week , and I tried to click the update button, and it failed to update several times.

It seems to start download and immediately stop ( I can see it stops at 4.40kb/257mb and the downloading sequence disappeared completely) and the update button became grey.

other functions works fine, I can download and update games, access to stores and sync my media.

anyone has the same issue? How can I fix it?

It seems you're experiencing the v66 update issue. You can find more information about this problem here https://communityforums.atmeta.com/t5/Get-Help/Quest-update-button-not-doing-anything-ptc-v66/td-p/1.... Unfortunately there is no solution yet.

Hi, I am stable experienced everyday Quest user. Several days ago my Quest 3 stopped connection to my PC Link app, I tried to reboot the PC Link app, headset and PC several times, but this didnt work. So I decided to factory reset my headset (used to do it already) and made it using Power and Lower Volume buttons. So now I have fresh headset, and after connecting to WiFi it gives me that forever message for hours and hours: "Updating to latest software: Estimating time left..." I already did factory reset several times, connecting to different wifi networks, but picture is the same - "Updating to latest software: Estimating time left..." without any changes for many hours. And yes, the headset is plugged in and charging. Need solution, I am very disapppointed now.

My Quest 3 wouldn't connect to my wifi no matter how many times I restarted it, so I factory reset it. Now it on updating and says "Esitmaited time, over an hour" It said this for roughly 2 hours now, I've tried factory resetting again and connecting to my phone hotspot, but It still says over an hour.

Please someone help me

Yep! If i restart my headset, it'll go from Estimating time left to over an hour left - This is as far as I can get. Very upset and disappointed in this happening..

Had the exact same issue, then my wifi wouldn't reconnect so I factory reset my headset - big mistake it's now bricked, no matter what it just stuck on "Estimated time, over an hour". I've been waiting hours, and did several more factory resets and nothing works.

I have the same problem, wanted to update V66. It started download and immediately stop, so i factory reset quest 3 and now i stuck on the update portion of the initial setup and the progress bar indicates “Over an hour remaining” and does not advance any further. I left quest 3 updating overnight and nothing changed. I tried others network and nothing. I am not enrolled in Quest PTC. Before the update everything works perfect. Now i have a nice piece of brick. Please Meta do something.

I have the same issue. I tried many different ways still not working. it stucks at updating for hours and back to update now.

Luckily i did not reset the quest 3 otherwise i am afraid it would be a piece of brick like some others.

Hey everyone, I found a solution! (Not a solution for who did factory reset.)

The issue was that the update was released under PTC rules, but somehow, those who weren't enrolled in the PTC also received the update notification. However, the update button wasn't working for them.

I'm a high-end developer, and I didn't enroll in the PTC because I didn't want to risk having a non-functional device. That is why i had the same issue. But I managed to get the update with the following steps:

Step 1: Enroll in PTC on the PC App (Meta Quest Link):

  • Go to Settings
  • Go to the Beta tab
  • Enable Public Test Channel than you will see the PC app will update itself.

Step 2: Enroll in PTC on the Mobile App (Meta Quest):

  • Ensure your Bluetooth is enabled
  • Go to Menu -> Devices -> Click the connected device -> Headset settings -> Advanced settings
  • Enable Public Test Channel

Step 3: Power off and power on the Quest 3. Then, go to updates on your device and click update. You should see it start downloading the 1.2GB v66 update. Once it's finished, the restart button will be enabled.

Enjoy the v66 features! 😉

But of course, the real solution should be for Meta to ensure that non-PTC subscribers don't see the PTC updates. Additionally, enrolling in the PTC on one platform should automatically trigger enrollment on the other. Currently, enrolling in the PTC from the PC app only provides PTC updates for the PC, while enrolling from the mobile app only provides PTC updates for the Quest.

Could you try finding a work around for those of us who Factory reset our devices, once factory reset we can't download this update

I did the factory reset and also got the soft block. It loops endlessly on the updating page. Customer support suggested a replacement, but I need the headset for an event next week. I'm considering buying a new one, but I am afraid that it'll also be blocked on the same screen. I wish there was a way to sideload the OS to v65 and get done with it.

Same I think its a joke that you can not roll back to a update that works. They should of never released this update until it works at the moment it has bricked my headset and its only 2 months old.

After talking with support at the moment their solution is to send back the head unit for a replacement.... which I find a joke I live remotely, it took months for me to even receive the unit let alone get a replacement. There needs to be a patch for those who have reset their quest.
