Seems this a known widespread issue however if you’re out of warranty you are out of luck. Support said sorry, bye. The troubleshooting for this issue is a joke. Very frustrating.

This is so horrible! I am having same issue & out of warranty but when I paid the money for this certainly expected it to last me for years to come! I have taken very good care of it & haven’t used it much at all so there is no reason it should be doing this & seems like the fault lies with the making of it & should be taken care of by the company if they stand behind their products.

Man I am so **bleep** glad I'm not the only one this happened to. So many emails back and forth and nothing productive from it. Just the warranty expired last month and then offered like a 15 dollar discount in a new one because according to Meta you can't just replace a battery. Even though technically you can with millions of step by step videos from others who have successfully done this. And to thin we bought 2 of these **bleep** things.

Did you ever find a solution?

My Quest 2 won’t turn on or charge. I think this is the black screen of death and I have tried using the app to reset the headset but it needs to be on to work. I have tried everything to turn it on but it will not even show the meta logo.

I've got the exact same problem. Quest 2 is completely unresponsive - the screen doesn't light up, no sound, even the power LED does not light up when I plug in the cable.

30-40 second press of the power button didn't work, power+vol- didn't work, changing cables and adapters didn't work. It sometimes starts responding to the cable, by flashing red diode 1 time and to the long power press by flashing 2 times, but after some time on the charger it goes away again.

I've messaged the support team and hope that this can be resolved, but I 100% consider this a device defect, as it was in perfect condition otherwise, and the last time I used it I powered it off and charged it, I don't think that I've drained the battery to 0 (I also don't think that even drained battery should lead to power LED not lighting up at all). For some context: I got my Quest 2 in November of 2020, so it's 3 years old at this point

For what it’s worth, I got mine working by using a more powerful charging brick. Specifically 65w vs the 10w it comes with. The fact they send a such a weak brick with this device and then support just tells you to try a different one without specifically telling you what the difference should be is mind blowing. Do better Meta.

I've tried using Steam Deck's PSU (45 W) and Mac's PSU (67 W) - no dice, unfortunately.

UPD: I've contacted support and they've offered me to buy a refurbished Quest 2 for $160. What a joke.

This is very clearly either a factory defect for a batch of devices, or a design defect for all of the models. A better company would issue a recall, warranty has nothing to do with it. Never buying another headset from Meta ever again, hope someone in USA sues them.

How exactly am I supposed to use this thing when it will NOT charge... have tried every outlet in the house.  It will not charge.  Have reconfigured cable that links enhanced headset to visor.  It will NOT charge.

So much for support, it's going in the trash bin.

Try plugging into a computer - this allowed my headset to charge when the original charger wouldn’t work.

Hello JJVR_tiktok! We would love to help you with your Quest 2! We are so happy you are a part of the VR community and we would gladly assist you to get your Quest 2 working like it should. Lets go ahead and start out with some basic troubleshooting steps.

If the headset is plugged and no battery icon is displayed, and no LED's come on:

  1. Attempt to charge the headset for 2 hours. The headset must be left powered off or in a sleep state during this time.
    • If trying to charge from a computer, take note of the following:
      • Computers typically provide less power than outlets and may require more time to charge.
      • If the customer is using an adapter, the port type being used may provide even less power than the USB-C port that is typically used for charging and Link cables.
      • Computers may also stop charging peripherals if the peripheral is completely powered off (causing the computer to not recognize the presence of the device), or if the computer itself goes into a sleep state. This is defendant on the port, motherboard, BIOS settings (not all of which may be visible in every BIOS) and USB power settings. BIOS settings vary greatly between computer models, so we cannot provide assistance with these.
      • While in use, the headset will typically consume more power than the computer port can provide, resulting in the battery charge decreasing over time. The headset must be off or in a low power (sleep) state to charge.
  2. Try a different Cable/Charger; if possible, test the cable and charger (adapter) separately to determine the faulty component.
    • If a known good Cable or Charger resolves the issue, no further troubleshooting is required. Check the Warranty Guidelines for warranty coverage on the accessory
  3. Charge the headset without the facial interface. Some facial interfaces may block the proximity sensor which can impact the power of the headset.
  4.  Are you using the Elite Strap with Battery or any third-party accessories that may affect battery charging or consume power (such as external battery packs, external fans, etc.) If so, have them disconnect the Elite Strap with Battery or any third-party accessories and try charging the headset again.
  5. Try charging from a different Source (another PC or different wall outlet).
  6. Ask the user if they have spilled liquids on the headset.
  7. Hard Reboot the headset
    1. Hold down the power button and volume down button for 30 seconds until you hear the boot-up sound
    2. If the boot-up sound is not heard, enter the USB Update Mode and select "Boot Device"
  8. Factory reset
  9. If the headset will still not charge after completing the above steps, please let us know so we can further assist you.

We hope this helps!

I’ve had this happening for about 2 months out of the 4 years of owning the quest 2, it doesn’t charge, turn on, not even the LED, it just randomly stopped charging one day. The support team didn’t help at all either repeating the same thing over and over (ofc unless you have a warranty) Does anybody have useful info or should I just toss this?
