Oculus Rift S Screen stays black

I've been looking everywhere on the internet, tried every solution found on reddit and whatsoever, even tried to use software to bypass meta software...

Looks like Facebook killed the Oculus Rift S.

I cannot contact support because my serial is not recognized, it's ridiculous. I was so disappointed and sad when I saw Facebook taking over Oculus, and I was right, it's become awful, and now after the last update, the Rift S worked only once and now never anymore. Sensor, remotes and everything works, except that the screen stays black. Nothing changed and now i have a nice piece of technology that does not work

This is extremely disrespectful, pushing people to buy new products by killing the old ones. It is unfair, as I paid money for a device that was working, and i really WISH that Facebook wouldn't have forced us to use their ridiculous software.

Who's going to refund me for a 5 years old device that was working perfectly, always taken care of and put back in its box at every use, looking brand new, no damage to cables or anything.

There MUST be a workaround to make it work again. Please, solve. I don't want to buy a standalone device.

My computer did not get any update so it's all on facebook. I would write so many offensive words to their engineers and managers but it's pointless, hoping to get a reply and a fix that actually works, avoiding software like OculusKiller (which did not work anyway) or other payware.

Thanks.

In my case i found out what was it: nVidia Surround and Meta software are not compatible.

Disabling nVidia Surround every time that i want to use the Oculus Rift S works, but it's annoying.

Seriously peeved at this. I rarely use my old rift and it seems every time I put it on there's an update that makes it stop working. Same black screen. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software, same issue. If you're going to stop supporting a device at least let us users continue using it without forcing every stupid update on us.

EDIT
I just tried disconnecting the internet as someone mentioned above and everything worked perfectly! Even an old VR program that was previously refusing to work ran fine as well. How is it that having an internet connection can allow them to somehow block your devices from working?!?

I got mine working. Not sure how. I did reinstall the Rift S drivers and launch SteamVR instead of Horizon Link. The support person also had me sign up for the Public Test Channel.

I have the same problem. Everything worked before I updated Meta Link. The software updated, I rebooted my computer, and when I reconfigured the headset, I simply couldn't complete the setup in VR mode, even though the sound worked and it told me everything was connected. When I put the headset on, I kept getting messages saying it wasn't working properly, which sent me to the support site to search for articles instead of articles. After searching the forum, I followed the recommendations.

Oculus Rift S headset remains black after years of use | Community Meta Forums - 1362997

And this

Oculus Rift S headset remains black after years of use | Community Meta Forums - 1362997

Created a .reg file with the contents of

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Oculus VR, LLC\Oculus\Config]

"PreventDashLaunch"=dword:00000001

Edited the registry

Rebooted the computer

And in the hosts file, added

127.0.0.1 graph.oculus.com

127.0.0.1 securecdn.oculus.com

127.0.0.1 edge.oculus.com

My Nvidia Surround  disabled; I don't use them.

After all these manipulations, the meta working environment does not start, I mean in VR where the store desktop settings borders, etc., but in SteamVR the headset works and even games run, but there is no native virtual meta desktop. Can you post a link with an archive of the previous version of the software where everything works?

The "Meta working environment" (Oculus Dash) is what is actually broken. That is normal behavior after following these steps. Downgrading the software won't fix that issue. You could try adding a firewall rule to block OculusDash or launch the app without internet.

I'm still using the Oculus Rift, but while it worked fine until a few days ago, today when I tried it, the screen went completely black.

Occasionally, for some reason, the image will display normally, but after playing for a while, if I try restarting Meta Horizon Link while still wearing the Rift, it goes black again.

This makes me think it's probably not a hardware issue, but rather a server authentication problem. I've been searching for a solution for about half a day now.

Mine is doing the same thing; it just stopped working out of nowhere. The headset light doesn't turn white anymore and there's no display... if I rub my finger over the sensor several times, it sometimes flashes white and then goes out immediately. Only once did it turn white and stay that way, but after I restarted Meta Link, the light turned yellow/orange again

Its dodgey updates corrupting your files and software. Had 3 rift s's do the same thing on the same machine. every new one i got would work fine until a few updates later then the static noise beep and reset would start again on occasion then start to get more frequent with time until it starts to happen too frequently that its unusable.  What i did with my 4th rift s was block all connections to oculus dash and client through windows firewall to stop the updates and guess what! No issues for 1 year and a half until all of a sudden i see a **bleep** notification of a Meta update. The bastards bypassed that too and right after that update, the beeps and resets started to happen aaall over again. Just got a new PC and the 4th oculus rift with the same cord that started to beep and reset on my old PC all of a sudden doesn't have the problem anymore like freakin magic. Want to keep this Rift S alive so everytime before i connect to the internet or anything now i always disable anything to do with oculus through task manager. Rift S cord is fine no problems. Updates are dodgey from these bastards. They don't even support the Rift s anymore so if you want to keep your headset healthy, block these bastards and their updates hahah no more beeps and reset. Screw Meta lol i ain't ever gonna buy your quest 3. If anything I'll go Pico next one.
