Question

PTC v76 - Quest 3 still not fully charging, continued from v74

https://communityforums.atmeta.com/t5/Get-Help/v74-Quest-3-not-fully-charging/td-p/1290989

Issue persists on PTC v76, attempted all suggested fixes to no avail, headset will not reliably charge past 75%, and the following does NOT RESOLVE IT:

  • Factory reset
  • Reboot from OS
  • Reboot from recovery menu
  • Full power off / power on
  • Using any combination of official charging accessories (included adapter / cable, official dock / battery strap)
  • Draining battery fully and attempting full recharge
  • Attempting to charge from any menu in any part of the OS, pre or post boot
  • Waiting any amount of time once the battery no longer accepts charge

Any response suggesting any of the above will be assumed to be a bot and will be ignored.

This issue is VERY DANGEROUS TO USERS, as lithium batteries not being charged properly can and often do fail explosively, potentially resulting in damage to property or life-altering injury. This should be addressed immediately before users are hurt.

I have tried different chargers and cables, no difference. Original charger, no difference. Charge while turned off completely, sometimes reaches 100%, but takes very long, and most of the times it doesn't change anything. Soft reset.... Problem appeared with v74.

    monsieur_cedric,

No problem, thanks for letting us know. There's a couple more steps we'd like you to try and see if this helps you out, we know you said this started from an update but it's still worth touching all bases with the troubleshooting.

    • Remove any unsupported third-party accessories that may affect battery charging or consume power (such as external battery packs, external fans, etc.)
    •  If you're using a facial interface accessory, attempt to charge the headset again without the facial interface accessory. Some facial interfaces may block the proximity sensor which can impact the power of the headset.
    • Try charging from a different source (another wall outlet), preferably one on a different circuit.
      • If using a splitter, power bar, or extension cord try removing it and plug directly into the wall outlet.

Please let us know when you've given this a try and we'll see what we can do next!

This is so ridiculous.... Got the quest 3 from day 1 (pre-ordered). Been fine up to v74, then it wouldn't change beyond 75% anymore....

At the same time several users report EXACTLY the same...

THREE months (!) later still Meta asks like "OMG I have no idea, please tell me more"

Been here since v1 oculus... Certainly won't be here for whatever comes next... Seems like will have to use this thing until it won't charge anymore and then to the trash bin.

And some wonder why all this "meta verse" thing is going to down the drain

Same problem in my Meta Quest 3 after updating to v74. I use the original charger adapter. Before v74, when I used the Quest 3 while charging, the battery still charged until 100%. But after v74, the battery could not reach 100%, even when the Quest 3 is charged while turned off. Except when I use my 67-watt charger or overnight charge with the original charger. Please fix this problem ASAP.

Meta is a mess. They told me I would get a replacement and to let them know if I didn't receive the shipping labels within 3 business days. Well I didn't receive the shipping label and I emailed them this and now I've gotten 2 emails stating they are investigating it. What the actual? Meta is a mess!!!

I’m having the same issue with my headset too. Left it charging g overnight while it was only 69% and this morning when I checked it, it had depleted to 51%. Tried all the things that Meta suggested but to no avail. And while it’s at 72% charged and the headset is in use, the battery charge drops drastically to zero in a couple of minutes. The helpline was no help at all. I live in Singapore and apparently there’s no service centre here or a place that I can bring to do a 1 to 1 exchange since it’s still on warranty. How sad. They can’t offer me other assistance
