Quest 3 brick
Dear Meta Quest Support,
I would like to request assistance with recovering my Meta Quest 3.
Device: Meta Quest 3
Serial number: ****
Product identifier: ****
The headset was working in the evening, but the following morning it would only boot into the USB Update Mode menu. It was not connected to a charger overnight. The exact cause of the issue is unknown.
Symptoms:
Selecting normal boot, Factory Reset, or Sideload Update causes the headset to restart almost immediately and return to the same menu.
Sideload mode does not start, and the LED does not turn purple, so I cannot transfer an update.
The Device Info screen remains stable.
With USB disconnected, powering off works. Connecting a charger automatically turns the headset on, and the menu reappears with an orange LED.
Charging behavior:
An inline USB meter initially showed approximately 5 V / 1.5 A, which subsequently dropped to around 5 V / 0.5 A.
I observed similar behavior with several chargers.
On one occasion, the USB input reached 12 V / 2 A for approximately one minute before returning to 5 V / 0.5 A. The boot menu remained displayed throughout.
The battery voltage reported by the bootloader ranged from 3615 to 3705 mV. The “battery-soc-ok” value is “yes.”
Computer-based checks:
The computer detects the headset in fastboot mode. The “fastboot reboot recovery” command returns “OKAY,” but the headset then returns to the boot menu. The “adb devices” list is empty.
The relevant bootloader values are:
unlocked: no
secure: yes
current-slot: a
slot-count: 2
slot-unbootable:a: yes
slot-successful:a: no
slot-retry-count:a: 6
slot-unbootable:b: no
slot-successful:b: no
slot-retry-count:b: 7
An attempt to switch the active slot to B was rejected with “Device not allowed to execute this command.” Boot and recovery partitions for both slots appear in the partition list, but I have not been able to verify their contents or integrity.
Holding the Power button and both volume buttons also makes the headset detectable in Qualcomm EDL mode, with USB identifier VID_05C6 / PID_9008. However, the installed Windows Qualcomm driver reports Code 52, a digital signature verification error, so working communication through this connection has not yet been confirmed.
Could you please advise:
Is there an official recovery procedure for a headset that cannot enter either Factory Reset or Sideload Update?
Can the device be recovered through fastboot or EDL using an official service tool?
What inspection, repair, or replacement options are available?
I can provide photographs of the symptoms and the diagnostic information.
Thank you for your assistance.
