Question

Quest 3 controllers battery drain super fast

I am having problems with various Quest 3 headsets. All the headsets are showing the same issue. The controllers battery is draining super quickly.

The pattern is always the same. I put new batteries and use them once for 1-2 hour session. Then I switch everything off and the next time I switch them on again (the same day in the afternoon, or after one week, or after 1 month) the controllers batteries are dead and I need to replace them again.

Is there anyone else that is having this issue?

Has meta investigated this? Can you please look into this issue and see if it is a software problem? How could I solve this?

What batteries are you using, what voltage etc, a controller battery should last like a month or two or even more (in my experience)

wondder it's probably another meta borkdate that's affecting the battery usage. Try turning the controller haptics down or off in the headset settings to save power during use. Remove batteries when not in use, and invest in some rechargeables.

I'm having a similar issue.  Yesterday I purchased a quest 3 and went through 3 batteries in the first day with the right controller.  The controller and the battery would get super hot.  I returned that device and just setup the new device with the same issue.  Within 1.5 hours it's already burned through two batteries.

And.4416  bring the headset back to where you bought it, get a new one or a refund.

Something is wrong with your right controller.

I have had exactly the same issue. Right remote drains new quality batteries within an hour. I have tried all settings such as the haptics, software updates, hard reboots and removal of batteries with no joy. I have taken the decision to send the unit back for a replacement

This is a problem I have also been experiencing. I just changed the batteries for a session a little shorter than an hour and immediately removed them afterwards so it wouldn't passively drain while the Quest was off, but to my chagrin the batteries were dead as soon as I went to use them again. They were Energizer MAX batteries, they're supposed to last 3x longer which they do in any other system's controller.

Wow, that is fast. Mine last for ages. Maybe you got some dud batteries. Or else some software bug is draining them.

Their batteries drained while they were not being used? Sounds like trolling to me, lol 😉. Or maybe they put them back in the wrong way around 🤣.

You know what would be great? "Deep Sleep" mode for controllers. Putting the controllers into deep sleep automatically with a headset power off, or by holding the trigger and the meta / menu button at the same time for 3 seconds.  Wake them up the same way.  No more phantom battery-drain because you left them on a table that gets bumped now and again.  And no more using battery to see if I picked them up.

It's possible I suppose but maybe it's adding an unnecessary complication as there are already issues for some people with controllers sleeping when they don't want them to. I put mine up on a shelf away from the possibility of movement, barring the small tremors we feel in Istanbul on a regular basis!! However if they can do it without messing up something else, why not! 👍
