Quest 3 Headset and controllers battery draining fast

Dear, I had a Quest 2 and I never had a problem with discharge, I charge it to 100 percent and after a few days when I turn it on it is still 100 percent, which is not the case with the Quest 3. The Quest 3 discharges by itself even though it is completely turned off. In the same way, the batteries in the controllers are discharged very quickly, they last only a few days until they reach 20 percent, which was not the case with the Quest 2 controllers, the batteries lasted for months.
I have read a lot on the net, everyone has problems with controllers, my opinion is that it is a software problem, but no one will say that.
It wouldn't be bad if you put in a little effort and correct the mistakes instead of giving people advice that doesn't help.

  • Unpair controller from headset.
  • Hard reboot the headset by holding the power button for 30 seconds.
  • Re-pair the controller to the headset.

Same experience for me. I have not done much research, but seems to be less so if the elite strap with extra battery is not connected while turned off. But, controllers always dies on me, even only when using them for an hour'ish

Hey there, Zvrgolija and RavenStein. Being able to enjoy your device to its full potential is very important, and we'd be happy to look further into both your headsets. While the headset battery on its own should be getting 2 hours of gameplay, your controllers should be lasting longer then a few days with the batteries within.

Even with that being said, we see both of you have tested different options to improve your experience, so we would like to confirm the following:

  • Are any third party accessories attached to the headset or controllers?
  • For the controllers, have brand-new batteries been used to replace the current?
  • Has the device always seemed this way, or were there any noticeable changes?

We'd love to gather more of your feedback, and make any bug reports on the devices if needed.

So far, one of the worst customer support experience in my life. I don't know how many I have been communicated with that says 'I have now taken over the ticket and I can assure you that my team is looking into it..." - but no clear answers. I am just asking you for replacing my controller(s) that don't work. Since you cannot send in to Brazil, because it is not 'supported' I am asking to send it to me when I am visiting the US, but this cannot be clarified by you if is possible? Bad and confusing communication

Hi,

no, there is no third party accessories. For the controllers I have used new batteries many times. Now I am using rechargeable batteries, charged to max, same problem. I have not used the device often and regularly enough to conclude if it has always been the same, but that is my guess. I have always had the sense that this version 3 is more troublesome than the first Oculus I bought, but not invested time in identifying problems. But now that the right controller is not working anymore it is check-mate. I have never used the device more than about 1.5 hours without the batteries in at least one controller dying

Same as RavenStein, I don't have extra accesories, whatever batteries I put in the controllers wear out very quickly, now I bought rechargeable batteries so I charge them when they wear out.
When Quest 3 is fully charged 100%, it works for about 2 hours, it all depends on what is being done, but it is not a problem, the problem is that when it is turned off, it consumes the battery, with Quest 2 I never had such a problem, if it is fully charged 100% even after a week days when I turn it on it is still 100%.

Hello Zvrgolija, Thank you for drawing our attention to your concerns. Whereas we recognize that regular use of the Quest may produce some aging on the hardware, having to change the battery so frequently may be undesirable. However, as long as the controller is not suffering any actual issues, we recommend that you view the article here to properly clean the inside of the controller and use batteries that are not damaged in any way.

If your issue is ongoing, you may want to look into other options. You may also contact us by PM or email to discuss your warranty alternatives. click here for instructions on how to send us a PM. Please select our name to get to our profile page. Please remember, you must be signed into the community first to send us a private message.

Please reach out to us if this issue persists so that we can figure out more options for you. We look forward to hearing back from you!

MetaStoreHelp new Quest 3 here also (2 months old), just used a couple of times, and already used 4 sets of Duracell battery's!

Standby/off mode for the controller is defiantly not working, my Logitech keyboard on the other hand that i am typing this on, still works with +2y old 2x AA battery's.

  • This is just a waste of money, and bad for the environment!
  • And removing battery every time after use is properly also not the best ting for the clip's holden the cover.

Hey there player-x! Thanks for bringing this to our attention. We definitely see where you're coming from here. The battery life on the Quest 3 controllers varies depending on the usage you're giving them, and they will definitely use more energy than a keyboard! I don't know what you are talking about, what kind of hardware aging, Qeust is new, maybe used 10 - 15 times. The controller can't be dirty, especially not inside, I have new rechargeable batteries charged 4 times, they wear out very quickly even though I don't use the controllers. I still think there is some problem in the software for the controllers. If you want to solve it, if you don't you don't have to, that's the policy of your house. You don't even look at what people write on the net, they all have problems with discharging batteries in controllers. You can simply say that it is so and that you cannot fix it and that we don't think about it anymore, instead of writing typical answers on the forum.

Same here.

I used to get a good few months (4-6) of battery life with the Quest 2 controllers, but I've already changed the batteries 3 times on my Quest 3, and I have it less than a month.

I'm guessing I get about 4-6 hours of use (and a week of time) with a set of rechargeable batteries.

I bought the Quest 3 used on Amazon and the batteries that were in the controllers were totally dead, down to about 0.3V. But after one of my batteries ran out just now I checked the voltage and it died at 1.16V. So it looks like the controllers will drain the batteries way down when they're not being used.

I'm guessing that the problems are that that the controllers are constantly drawing power while not in use, and also the fact that they run out when the voltage is still fairly high. Definitely not a good combination if you are using non-rechargeable batteries!

Hi there, TwistedViny! Thanks for reaching out about the battery life of your headset and controllers. We absolutely understand the importance of battery level for optimal gameplay, and we're ready to help out!

We'd love to hear more about any troubleshooting steps you've taken so that we can offer the next best steps. In the meantime, we've listed a few things to try:

  • Have you charged the headset for 2+ hours via a wall charger?
    • Please keep in mind that computers typically provide less power than outlets and may require more time to charge.
  • Did you try using a different cable, charging adapter, and outlet?
  • Have you attempted charging without the facial interface attached?
  • Have you removed or replaced the batteries in the controllers?
  • Has the headset or controllers encountered any liquid?
  • Have you attempted any reboots, restarts, or factory resets?

Same issue here. Have you had any joy or still in the same position? Is this a chatbot or an actual human?
love the headset but the batteries in my controller will not last for more than one session as I only play it once a week or even fortnight.

Yes I have tried everything mentioned in the three pages of replies. But nothing is effective. I don’t understand why the controllers are draining when the headset is turned off completely

Many thanks
