Quest 3 Really slow charging since 2.4 update

Hi all,

Hope you are all keeping well.

My Quest 3 was working perfectly..... until it updated to v2.4  Now 3 different chargers (100w, 65w & 40w) take nearly 24 hours to charge the Q3 from 19% to 100%.  Each charger is working perfectly with every other device I plug in to them.  The cables I use are rated up to 100w charging.  The 100w charger I have been using with my Q3 for around 18 months now and never had an issue until the Q3 updated to v2.4.  It still charges my BOBOVR batteries using BOBOVR's charging dock (the docks display screen show it pulling 90w's to charge the 3 batteries).

Up until the Q3 updated to v2.4 when I connectect the charger the power light on my Quest turned soild orange until it fully charged then turned green.  Since the update when I connect any of the 3 chargers the light flashes orange for a few minutes then turns soild orange.

I have done a few things recommended in other forum posts, hold the power and volume- key for 30 seconds to power cycle it.  Holding down the volume key when starting up (think is goes in to the developer type menu where you can fatory reset your headset) and selected shutdown from in there.  I've even went as far as doing a factory reset.  None of these help.  As I type this I have it connected to a 40w charger, it has been charging (powered off) 2 hours 37 minutes and it has went from 71% to 75%.  I don't have the orginal charger that came with it as it died around 5 months after buying the Q3.  Reported it to Meta and they sent me a link to buy a new charger.

Anyone know of anything else i can try or how to downgrade the OS to 2.1 please?  I really don't want to have to spend more money on a new quest 3.

Thank you in advance for any help given.

It doesn't matter what output charger you use, the Quest will still only charge at 18w generally.. You might have a faulty download that messed with the charging. You could try connecting your headset to your pc and run the Meta Software Update tool which can repair a glitchy update.  You should also report the slow charge as a possible bug through the bug reporting tool on the headset. They might send a fix.

As for downgrading to older versions, you can't do that, just as you can't do it with a phone.

Good luck, hope you get it fixed soon. Others might have some more advice so keep an eye out for other replies. 🍀🍀🤞

Hi Maccyb123,  Thank you for the suggestions.  I had done a factory reset on the Q3 but i assume it doesn't download a fresh copy of the operating system.  I will give the Software Update Tool a go and see how I get on.  I'll report the bug if it still happens after running the Tool.  Thank you again.

Ran the Software Update tool.  it took about 10 minutes.  Shut the Q3 down by holding in the power button for 30 seconds.  The battery was reading 90%   Left if off and on a charge for an hour, checked the battery and its at 85%.

OK, so if I understand you correctly, while being charged and not playing it dropped from 90% to 85%? Then it sounds like your battery has reached end of life and can't hold a charge. Rather than going through the expense of a new headset , if you're in the US, Fix My Oculus will replace the battery for you, they have a great reputation.. I think his YouTube channel probably has a video on replacing the battery yourself if you're good at that sort of thing. If you're not, and not in the US you might find a good local company in your country that can fix it.

I could have wrote this myself. Exact same issue with the recent update and I have seen one other post(so far) with the same issue.

The amber light will blink unless I power down completely. Then I get a solid light and it almost never goes green. By almost, one time it did go green and when I went to use it a few hours later it was amber again and at 78%

It will charge to a max of 78% and sit all day and not get anywhere. When playing using a BOBOVR battery, it maintains that 75 tio 78% for a few hours. I also get low battery warnings after the BOBOVR battery is depleted and the headset gets to 38%.

You've probably checked this anyway but just thought I'd mention it, is there any new style battery life saver options on your settings that is stopping it from fully charging?

The blinking amber light still exists and shutting it down solve that but now its fully charging. I've tried different power bricks and no changes.

I had a problem like you reported this month using v2.4.  I noticed that it was room temp dependent.  Would stall overnight at 74%.  My office was warm (79-82 deg)  Did not have a problem on v74 or v76 Apr 2026.  Not sure when the chargingissue  start started, maybe 4/2026. Then I started using the adb function to dump the battery status.

adb shell dumpsys battery

adb shell dumpsys power

Notice the temp was way up at 45°

adb  shell dumpsys batteryproperties

So I tried cooling the headset, e.g. charge in refrig for 1 hour. 100% no problem.

Implemented all of Meta suggestions:

  • Charging frequently stalled between 73% and 80% despite using the original charging dock, direct USB-C charging, multiple cables, and a 45W charger.
  • Headset occasionally reached 99–100%, but charging behavior was inconsistent and unpredictable.
  • Factory reset performed. Cloud Backup and automatic updates disabled. Problem persisted.
  • Battery temperature repeatedly reached 45–48°C during testing.
  • Rapid battery discharge observed during light use (menus, settings, and library browsing). Example: battery dropped from 97% to 75% in approximately 29 minutes while battery temperature rose to 48°C.
  • Refrigerator cooling test temporarily improved charging behavior, suggesting thermal sensitivity.
  • Issue reproduced both on the charging dock and with direct USB-C charging from a 45W power supply.
  • ADB diagnostics, battery reports, and bug reports were collected and provided to Meta Support.

I gave up 6/21/2026 and went for OOW.  I was OW by 2 months.  Why:
Abnormal charging behavior, excessive battery drain, and elevated battery temperatures during light use. Device no longer appeared to operate within normal charging and runtime specifications.

I dont know what changed but my situation has resolved itself. In regards to the temperature discussion mine is in an air conditioned room.

I changed charging bricks and cables and checked the power port and nothing worked. Then one morning it was a green light. Since then it has charged fine in both standby and off. I am back to using my original charging station. I do now notice that when I plug or unplug my earbuds from the same source, the headset will beep and blink the led off and on

Well that's good news! Glad it's fixed!, I always play in an air conditioned room too, keep it to 23°c during the summer when it's 30°c outside!

fully switched off (single short press the power button and it only shows the battery level, doesn't boot up), been on the charge for 23 hours now and in the last 4 hours it has went from 97% to 75%.  Been sitting at 75% with an orange charging light for around 3 hours.

У меня точно такая-же проблема при обновлении до v.26 прошивки .

Надеюсь что этот глюк исправят в следующей прошивке .

Update:  Over 3 months now and still nothing from Meta!   I've bought a UGREEN 200W charger and a few UGREEN 240w USB-C to USB-C charging cables.  Connecting the cables to my phone or tablet they charge as ecpected.  Pulling 29.something Watts on the tablet.  When connected to my Quest 3 it doesn't even come close to the advertised charging rate.  With nothing else connectd to the charger other than my Quest 3, connected in to a 200w port (yes I know the quest doesn't pull anywere near that) my Quest 3 shows the following:  0.1A, 5.2V, 0.7W  I've checked these numbers with an external USB tester and they are correct.  I have pictures of this (each 1Mb) but the Forum won't let me post them.

With these numbers it's no wonder it is now takng 4-5 days to charge my Quest 3.  This has made my Quest 3 basically unusable and Meta don't care about their customers.  Once they have your money you are on your own!  Their aftercare is disgraceful.

My Quest 3 is currently on the latest available OS version available in the Software Update bit in settings.

There's something wrong with your hardware then. If it's under warranty get a new one, if it's not send it to https://www.fixmyoculus.com/

if you're in the US or else a local repair company where you are. No point in posting your 1mb photos here, it's just a user forum, no Meta moderators here, or any Meta staff whatsoever.

No point in complaining here, this forum isn't the Meta Complaints Department. As volunteers we just try to help where we can, and we cannot help with this, as it's likely a hardware issue.

If you want to complain you can contact support directly here.

Well mine went back to the old behavior of charging to 74-76%. Sometimes it will charge to green and before I get to use it,it will go back to yellow and 74%. I turned off the setting to wake for updates last night and today it's green. Bad software or bad hardware I dont know. Eventually I'll do a factory reset and keep that auto start off. If it continues I may send it out for a repair.
