So, I was in my car trying to play beat saber demo and I was trying to create a boundary and it didn’t work (obviously). Then my quest just shuts off I tried turning it on and only saw a black screen.

Hi SwitchedGlobaly!

I made a factory reset and nothing, but this morning it's working, I'm impressed. This is the tutorial I follow to restart the Quest 3, I hope it works for you https://youtube.com/shorts/qDNn5J3xBe0?si=J9BIM4JBbPN9_hd4

What worked for me was just opening a app through my phone.

[Fix for Black Screen – Cause: Blocked Proximity Sensor (Meta Quest 3)]

I recently ran into a frustrating issue with my Meta Quest 3:

The headset appeared to boot normally – the LED lit up, and there was haptic feedback on power-up – but the display stayed completely black. There was no image in standalone mode or when connected to a PC via Link.

The Developer Mode had already been enabled, but after a Factory Reset, ADB access was disabled again, which made further diagnostics more difficult.

I tried everything: key combinations (Power + Volume), all boot menu options, and even performed a full reset – none of it helped.

What actually caused the issue?

A few days earlier, I had cleaned the headset thoroughly. Not only did I remove the facial interface, but I also detached the flexible rubber gasket located between the lenses, which forms the transition between the lens assembly and the rest of the headset body. You can gently remove it using a plastic opening tool (like those used to open smartphones or tablets).

At some point during cleaning, I must have accidentally blocked or smudged the proximity sensor, which is located right between the lenses.

This sensor is responsible for detecting whether the headset is being worn – and if it’s not triggered properly, the screen will remain off.

The black screen issue did not occur immediately after cleaning, but appeared later after a normal reboot. Since the display stayed off, I suspected a more serious hardware or firmware problem and eventually performed a factory reset – which, of course, didn’t solve anything.

The actual fix:

I carefully cleaned the area around the proximity sensor using a lint-free cloth and some compressed air.

As soon as the sensor was unobstructed, the display came back to life and the headset worked normally again.

Conclusion / Tip for others:

If your Meta Quest 3 powers on (LED, vibration, sound), but the screen remains black, make sure to check and clean the proximity sensor between the lenses.

If the sensor is blocked (by dust, fingerprints, or misaligned rubber parts), the headset will think it’s not being worn – and will keep the display off, even after a factory reset.

I'm having the same issue with my meta quest 3, it starts and shows the meta logo but after the boot it gives a black screen (the oled's are on because I can see the backlight) , it started with the error "meta quest 3 cannot find position in a room" I checked the troubleshooting and I've done hard reboot, factory reset, updated it from the bios, and cleaned the sensors on the outside but nothing seems to work, and contacted support but since it's a little over a year (1yr 3months and some days) since I bought it it doesn't apply for warranty, and the best solution from them is to send it over and pay $359 for a renewed one, without a service for the device option, I hope someone could help me try another solution that have worked for you.

I had the same issue, I re-adjusted it on my head and the image turned out. Looked it up, turns out the sensor wasn't picking up that it was on my head. Online it said this is due to it needing to be cleaned (inside in the middle above the lenses)
