Quest 3S freezes in Quest Link – RTX 5070 Ti – USB 3

everyone,

I am a simracer and mainly use my Quest 3S for iRacing in VR.

After formatting my PC and installing a new GPU, my Quest 3S started freezing when using Quest Link over USB. I spent quite a bit of time troubleshooting it, so I wanted to share what I found in case it helps someone else.

My setup:

Meta Quest 3S
RTX 5070 Ti
Windows PC
iRacing
Quest Link over USB

The problem:

The Quest 3S would completely freeze inside Quest Link.

The important part was that the PC itself did not freeze.

The mouse was still working.
The PC continued running normally.
iRacing continued running normally when I was in a game.
Head tracking continued to work.
But the image inside the Quest 3S was completely frozen.

At first, I suspected the USB connection.

Initially, Meta's USB test showed:

USB 2, approximately 370 Mbps.

I then changed to a different USB port on the PC and got:

USB 3, approximately 2.7 Gbps.

Meta then reported the connection as compatible.

However, the freezing problem could still occur.

Interestingly, I could reproduce the problem without even starting iRacing. The Quest could freeze while simply sitting in the Quest Link environment.

I then opened Oculus Debug Tool and changed the following settings:

Video Codec: H.264
Sliced Encoding: Off
Encode Dynamic Bitrate: Disabled
Dynamic Bitrate Max: 0
Encode Bitrate: 300 Mbps
Dynamic Bitrate Offset: 0
Link Sharpening: Normal
PC Asynchronous Spacewarp: Disabled
Adaptive GPU Performance Scale: Default
Encode Resolution Width: 0

I then restarted the Oculus/Meta service.

After making these changes, I left Quest Link running for approximately 10 minutes without a freeze.

I then started iRacing and, so far, the freezing appears to be gone.

I am currently testing with 400 Mbps, 90 Hz and 1.5x resolution.

So far, it appears to be stable.

I don't know yet which individual setting actually solved the problem, because I changed several settings at the same time.

My suspicion is that the problem is related to the Link video encoding or streaming path rather than the USB connection itself, because the PC and head tracking continued working while only the headset image froze.

I am posting this in case someone else is experiencing the same problem, especially with an RTX 50-series GPU and Quest 3S.

I will update this post once I have identified which individual setting actually made the difference.

Hopefully this helps someone else

I tried to install the old version linked in the page, but it doesn't allow me to install it...

My GPU is 5070 Ti Laptop and the installer just says it is not compatible with my hardware. I am not sure why.... (P.S. i tried both the desktop version and the notebook/laptop version, but neither work).

Does anyone have a solution to this?

I tried another workaround proposed by this comment whose PC also has RTX 5070 Ti on reddit

Tested my app for 20 minutes after this change and it seems to be fine now... hope this well help some people.

Meta doesn't care about their customers/developers. So far all the troubleshooting I've done for this project was caused by Meta... AMAZING
