Quest Link freezes after Compositor Frames Dropped continuously

Hi everyone, I'm trying to determine whether this is a recent Meta Link runtime regression or a compatibility issue with my Windows build. I've been troubleshooting this issue for quite a while and eventually noticed that the freeze itself doesn't appear to be the primary problem.

While using Quest Link (both USB Link and Air Link), opening almost any desktop application (Chrome, Discord, Steam, Settings, etc.) causes the Compositor Frames Dropped counter in Oculus Debug Tool to increase continuously. After the dropped frame counter reaches several thousand (typically around 3000-4000), the Link session freezes completely.

The PC itself does not freeze. Windows remains fully responsive, and OVRServer.exe continues running. Only the headset image freezes.

Things I've already tried:

  • Clean reinstall of Meta Horizon Link
  • USB Link and Air Link
  • Updated NVIDIA graphics driver
  • Updated Intel graphics driver
  • Disabled Sliced Encoding
  • Verified USB Link bandwidth (~2.1 Gbps)

None of these changed the behaviour.

System

  • Meta Quest 3
  • Acer Nitro AN515-55
  • Intel Core i5-10300H
  • NVIDIA RTX 3060 Laptop GPU
  • 32 GB RAM
  • Windows 11 25H2 (Build 26200.8875)
  • Meta Horizon Link Runtime 206

Has anyone experienced something similar?

I'm particularly interested if anyone has seen Compositor Frames Dropped increasing continuously before Link freezes, or if this is a known issue with recent Meta Link runtime versions.

Any information or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Does it freeze in your headset's view and distort the image, if the answer is yes, it's ASW causing it.
